Unless there is a mandatory evacuation- or hurricane insurance. there is no refund for the people staying in the rentals. Have family and friends that stayed- today no power.
I knew when the full moon tide of 5.6 feet coincided with a 4-8 foot storm surge it was going to be bad. Since Matthew, the dunes have not recovered. Just think if a Cat 4 or 5 came through! Great video!
Thanks for posting. We were supposed to be there this week and next but cancelled due to covid concerns. How sad this is to me. We LOVE Oak Island. I know it could’ve been far worse but this is still very sad. You went right past our house. 2020 strikes again!
@ncsam 000000 I know. It's sad. We had a house in cherry Grove SC and the dunes as well as the beach have almost disappeared. And I love the SC beaches. At least in Charleston they have done lots of work especially on Sullivan's island to protect the beach
@@Desert_Dreamin024 Was voluntary, now whole island shut down, we have beach house through our development and we are not allowed on the island which was a refuge from the covid. Thumbs up to Oak Island E services who were on their own as additional services could not get onto the island. there were many rescues and even house fires last evening. As far as those who say you shouldn't build on a barrier island. Do it right and you will have minimal damage, and you can see that in the old vs newer homes. Too bad the drone did't go all the way out to the West end where stilt homes at 18 ft up.
J Don - I ha e friends and family vacationing there now- no power or sewer. Also have friends that have a house there too - the house is ok, my friends are ok. They stayed a couple of rows back
SO cool, I love a good hurricane. Wish I could have stayed at the beach after graduation. Note: no masks. There would have been less devastation if people had on masks.
4 feet of storm surge tends to do that. A foot of water is enough to move a car then add 70 plus mph winds. People build houses on pilings for a reason . Move your damn cars!! Should have moved cars inland to a parking lot somewhere. Lot of vacationing people that did not know any better.
The mayor amended the Emergency Order on this hurricane to include a mandatory evacuation of seven western most miles of Oak Island's beaches have been ordered evacuated NLT Noon on August 5th, to include the three roads closest to the beach and any cross streets in the zone.
A birthday to remember. We were supposed to be there now also for my bday but cancelled due to covid concerns. Crazy! 2020 the year to remember I guess. Happy birthday
Popular vacation destination. They rent the houses out so the island was full of people that had rented for the week and they didn't figure out it might not be a good idea to move your car off the island.
Yup. Gotta love that beachfront property. Brings to mind that old biblical proverb about the foolish man who built his house upon the sand. Looks like these guys got more sand that they originally paid for in their mortgages. I wonder how much they are liking the view now. I used to live near a huge river valley that was known for frequent flooding and people STILL built on the valley floor. Like these guys, I wanted to feel sorry for the valley folk, but sometimes you just can't fix 'stupid'.
Some of the comments... SMH! I have vacationed at this beach for over 50 years. Thankfully no loss of life.
it sure has changed hadnt it
Silly humans building homes 1 inch above sea level.
Obamba
I'm from the coast, and have enough damn sense to move any vehicle from that close to the water
Unless you need to get rid of it by way of the insurance company.
That is nearly every storm that passes Carolina Beach. Why in the world did so many stay behind?? That is nuts.
Because there was no evacuation order and lots of tourists stayed

Oh its just a cat 1 , break out the beer im betting them saying..
Guess people should have taken Uber and left the cars on high ground !
Any footage of Caswell Beach on the other end of Oak Island?

Still looks better than PORTLAND or SEATTLE!

awesome footage, can i see the drone?
Just mind blowing the damage a cat 1 or tropical storm can cause. Thx for the awesome video as always

Storm Surges, Wind are Dangerous
@ncsam 000000 Why Texas is Smart
It's going to get much worse as sea level rise is accelerating.
@@ax14pz107 HAARP?
Thank goodness it doesn't look that bad. What are the white boxes out in the middle of the road? Freezers? There are a lot of them out there?
Mind boggling that there wasn't an evacuation order in place on the island.
Voluntary from what I hear...most people were downplaying this storm big time.

no maks needed on beach much wind & unclosed environnement
Did it move cars that much?

Does anyone have drone of Ocean Isle eat side? Post link
Thank you for posting. My sister and family are there. I hear it was pretty scary.
Bunny, which house is yours and Barry's

Nice same

Happy Birthday
WOW! Thanks for dropping off my t shirts

All the cars there tells the story of many deciding to stay? even after plenty of time to evac and warnings that storm was coming directly at them
Yeah lots of tourists came down plus these are people’s homes
Unless there is a mandatory evacuation or they have hurricane insurance- people visiting will not get their money back - so they stay.
Just think this was only a cat 1 storm that hit What would it have looked like if this storm was a cat 3 or higher
Beachfront property i not understanding this when you can't control mother nature
most are eleveted from ground
What street numbers was this filmed at?
Looks just west of Middleton to me.

So sad. Did people evacuate?
Some did ,,, fools stayed .
If your front yard is sand and your back yard is the ocean that means your house is way to close to the water..
Fills the city with sand? I think sand was already there.
Well at least it happened in the richest country on earth.
While poorest in India lost their shacks and families in mass flooding but no one cares.
if many in florida, NC & SC and so on , lose their house on the front of the shore, no poor indian even rich cares !
Some still think a Cat 1 Hurricane is a 'cakewalk'
Our prayers to all 🙏
Don’t like hurricanes 🌀. Don’t live near the ocean 🌊
Could be worse. What if it had eroded that much sand from the island?
U can't hide from God, He calls the shots.THE BIBLE SAID, THE WIND AND WATER WILL DETORY UR HOUSE. THAT WHAT JESUS SAID.!AMEN😢❗
We left 2 days before the hurricane hit
Slightly used car for sale. Just a little sand inside.
That’s why I have a home a mile above sea level....
Me too: 2,880.
People never learn. Living on a beach in the east is bad news..
I am only 1 mile from this
Sorry to see all this!
This is minor being that it’s right on the beach
this is what happens when you build on the barrier islands and all those cars with salt water damage ha ha ha junk them now
Can't wait to see these cars for sale on Carvana!! Lol
Szkoda ze im tych domow w samym rodku oceanunie zbudowali

Osk Island must be where the blue collars vacation. Bald Head is where I go.
