You are right about the population and the support, but one thing you didn't capture is the quality of what they tune out. The quality of songs, they lyrics, the beats and the videography is top notch. Language is never a problem, you can use swahili a vast language in Africa and still blow, but the beat and video has to be world class. This why Nigeria has most consumers in Africa.
Naija has learned from the West and has used art to infuse its style into what is today's naija culture. What many haven't realized is support comes from good-quality sound, vibing lyrics, and quality videos. Naija has improved on these principles to grow the industry.

In case you guys don't know, when Burna Boy first came out, Nigerians were the first to give him trouble for the way he sounds and the way he looked. Go and check the earlier comment on the video "Like to Party". You can see that Burna Boy took this criticism and went to work on improving both is sound and image, and everything worked out fantastically for him. Fast forward to today and you can hear even WHITE Americans and Europeans singing our songs even the parts that are in Yoruba. Do the Americans speak Yoruba? No. But they are vibing to it because it sounds good. Other african countries should learn to perfect their craft and put in the work instead of making excuses. Some of you have no idea about Mo hits Records. Nigerians have been doing this for a long time and perfecting the sound to what it is today. I think Nigerian "identity" comes before its music. I identify Kenya with the Safari and a diverse economy, but not really a contemporary urban identity. From YT videos, I can tell its there - nightlife, entertainment etc., so Kenya just has to project that identity and categorize its music. Then people will buy into that identity. Afrobeats is about Nigerian confidence, "swag", love of culture (dress, slang etc.), culture of celebration etc. So I think its more than just using understandable words in the hooks. Anyway, Kenyans always show us Nigerians love so kudos to you.
I get your point about The urban selling point.Urban Kenyans seem westernized or modernized. We seem to lack a culture to sell in music. Kenyans thrive on hip-hop & dancehall vibes. Kenyan hits that do well in Kenya seem to have dancehall and hip-hop/rnb influences

Nigerians do not play with Kenyans as far as afrobeats is concerned. Kenyans are loved by Nigerians Mostly for being the number 1 afrobeats support base in Africa after Nigeria Kenyans show too much love to Nigerian music & it is highly commendable & appreciated
There are local music which are also well supported by Nijas which has been morphed internationally as Afro beats by Nigerians for greater success.Something which other Africans may not be able to do without the population which Nigeria have.
I dont think its about language. Nigerian artists sing in their native language as well, Asake is singing in mostly Yoruba but still went global. I think other African countries should try developing their own sound
The problem is in the first word that man said "waguan". You guys sing reggae, not original. You can't do reggae more than the Jamaicans, stay local and do your own thing and sell it. That's Naija style.
This is it you much talking sense ... But. this must be implemented by play 100% Kenyan music first in our local media to enable this Nigerian shit in our country..... soon we gone conquer this much love from ❤️🇱🇷🇱🇷 254pps🇰🇪🇰🇪
Your brain is leaking through your left ear ...how disrespectful can you comparing 9ja entertainment to Kenya which is like one of the 36 States in Nigeria ..your language is one of the most vastly spoken language in Africa yet Una never top chart but you want to compare ...
Be creative and do more. Stop dragging this issue. Kudos to every African Artists. Time will definitely come when everyone working hard now will be celebrated globally. Nigerians started way back and have they have been working seriously hard
Population has nothing to do with Nigeria's success. First, Jamaica is barely 2.1 million, and their reggae conquered the world. Second, Nigeria started from nothing, and right now, Nigeria's Nollywood has surpassed India's bollywood to be the second largest movie industry in the world. Chinese and Indian movie industries were already established since the 70's. China's population is 1.39 billion. India is 1.3 billion.
My sister is not about population, Nigeria is a great nation, Nigeria is in league of great nations like USA, UK, etc The problem here is other African countries keep on looking down on Nigeria and putting them in the same league.
How is it that the Congolese soukous was able to blow up around Africa & the world then? Soukous isn't sang in a global language like English? I think a lot of factors led to Afrobeats becoming popular around the world it's hard to pick just one. I think the timing made it possible too; it happening in the social media age with trends, virility & a communication revolution spurring the genre's growth. South Africa's Amapiano is another genre that hasn't relied on English in getting a global reception. I dont think it has to do with what Kenyan music isn't doing. We shouldnt beat ourselves for this.
Nigerians are intentional about their music.. A Nigerian artist can get in the studio and decide to make a song that will be big in Asia.. He goes into the studio and tells the producer the idea he has.. The producer may incorporate one element of Asian music in the song and the singer/artists may shout out Asian country or capital in the song.. . Before you can say Jack Robinson, the song is going viral in Asia and everywhere else. In all, the song is melodious, the hook is catchy so people everywhere can relate to it... That is just the process even though it is not as easy as i said it..
It's not about population but How far Kenya or Ghana are able to cover market share of their country before you want to dominate other country. And other things I can say is how many ghana and Kenya are in nigeria compare to nigeria in your nigeria.
HE IS WRONG! SO VERY WRONG. music has nothing to do with the Language or the population (Cue in Jamaica leading the world with Reggaeton with a small Population), but everything to do with the Artists who genuinely know how to sing collaborating with other more successful Musicians. Producers who understand the business of music is more than just sound production. Marketers who are willing to spend money and take risks and Proud Kenyan people travelling, telling, talking and playing this music wherever they go. All this must be done consistently. That is how to sell Music to the world. Even if Kenyan music is just sound and no words, it would become a Genre and will still draw millions if it is of good quality. Is there any Nigerian who doesn't know Sauti Sol and Diamond Platinumz. I appreciate your sweetness by the way. Angelic behaviour.
Nigerian-pidgin is local to us lol Nigerian-pidgin has been copied and adapted in many parts of Africa. And many songs in Yoruba do well so you don't have to sing in English tbh but it can help. Most of the time Nigerians sing in Naija-pidgin and Yoruba.
In much the same way that Nigeria can not be like Kenya when it come to wildlife tourism…..The truth is that Kenya can not be like Nigeria musically, accept this reality and know peace.
@@erickmodesto3751 we are talking global recognition and here you are talking east Africa domination. My brother save your energy and relax; Kenya is known for tourism and not for her lyrical prowess period.
@@erickmodesto3751 I would have agreed with you if only you had contextualized your point from the get go when you say “time will do it’s magic”. That I will totally agree to. But do not come on here and speak about Kenya music domination in the 2000s; which is a stretch. This is not your time to dominate. Support and show love to those who are currently dominating, that’s how it works.
The opposite of what you are saying is actually true. English is probably kenya's problem,it's a borrowed language, colonial language.Nigeria use to sing in pure English language few years ago, nobody recognised those artist then. You can not be successful trying to do everything in someone else language, you got to accept and embrace yourself first before anyone can accept you. Now white people sing to Nigerian music, especially the local lyrics more than the English part. Shayoo, lgbo, buga etc. are not English language for example. The Swahili population is more than local Nigerian language population so you should be doing better if it all about population really.. Most of this Nigerian artist are mostly from the southern part of Nigeria and sings in either yoruba and lgbo. What am l saying, 75 percent of Nigerians don't understand some of these local language in these songs too, like buga won,etc only the pigin English part we all understand but we all still jam to the vibe and rhythm. There is something about singing relatable songs, the vibe and sound, not trying to sound jamaica or American to an African audience.....
@@Msoh1 It is! It's the fundamental of who we are as human beings. If we can not embrace our language and mother tongue and start doing things in it like singing, dont expect foreigners to embrace you trying to do things in foreign language. Instead, people will look to,embrace the source of that foreign language. Nigerian artists were lucky, without realising it they started singing in pigin English,a local language made up in Nigeria,so that they can reach more local audience. Before they know it the songs are crossing borders, foreigners are vibing to local languages like pigin English, yoruba, lgbo. Anyways l enjoys the conversation nonetheless, welldone! A new sub here.Thank you.

@@Qidawithaq This right here is the comment. The best artists in Kenya are Underground. We need a Don Jazzy or Olamide In Kenya. However, Gengetone was still vibey, They need better packaging. Black Market Records have a few hits with the likes of kina fathamore but still, It needs more Sauce like Afrobeats bana
if we can vibe to your beat then we are good. check out awilo song sold out in Naija and we do not understand a word
Nice and Fair analysis. You are a pretty lady

I love Kenya cause they love Nigeria music,,,
Your so beautiful ❤
Thank you 😊
What's the population of Jamaica, lady? Jamaica is less than 5 million population. Dancehall and Reggea is world wide. So, y'all need to stop the cap!
Nice talk

I love you, love when you speak Swahili and even more so, when you laugh cos it's so real and infectious. Wow.....I'd so love to meet you someday. Anyway, will keep in touch. 💕💕💕👍🏽👍🏽👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

India and china has over 1 billion each. And they have more people using the internet. Please name one musician from each country each 😁
Nigerian musicians do give aways to promote their song. Create w dance step to a song, even if it is just 4 - 6 moves. Do give away.
It doesn't matter what language when ur music is good is good so it not about ur language so stop why nigerian music is going viral is because of the way we hype our music
Nigerians do not play with Kenyans as far as afrobeats is concerned.
Kenyans are loved by Nigerians
Mostly for being the number 1 afrobeats support base in Africa after Nigeria
Kenyans show too much love to Nigerian music & it is highly commendable & appreciated
There are local music which are also well supported by Nijas which has been morphed internationally as Afro beats by Nigerians for greater success.Something which other Africans may not be able to do without the population which Nigeria have.
I love kenya because they dont hate or jealous like ghana and cameronians
With love from KE🙏
Cameroon are not jealous though but speaking out. Ghana is the worst that’s why they are still where they are.
Buga song has a long of English please go and listen to it again
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's not the point, ok we are listening.
I dont think its about language. Nigerian artists sing in their native language as well, Asake is singing in mostly Yoruba but still went global. I think other African countries should try developing their own sound
My love for kenya is unexplainable especially the women ain't gon lie I love y'all
we love Kenyans you people can not do wrong in my eyes
My sister is not about population, Nigeria is a great nation, Nigeria is in league of great nations like USA, UK, etc
The problem here is other African countries keep on looking down on Nigeria and putting them in the same league.
But y'all obsessed with anything American, Kenya is not serious again saying you not American or British very funny
Population is not always the reason if not Korean music will not be more popular than Chinese music
I see
The beauty of Kenyan ladies is irresistible to Nigerian men. Their loveliness makes Nigerian men say, "God_ah_beg_oh!"
Winnie, will you marry me?
😂😂
In much the same way that Nigeria can not be like Kenya when it come to wildlife tourism…..The truth is that Kenya can not be like Nigeria musically, accept this reality and know peace.
Cap.Kenyan music dominated in east Africa in the 2000s, Sauti sol are the best band in Africa. Wakadinali is the best hip-hop group in Africa
@@erickmodesto3751 we are talking global recognition and here you are talking east Africa domination.
My brother save your energy and relax; Kenya is known for tourism and not for her lyrical prowess period.
@@KayK_Eleven Burna boy was a local artist UpTo 2018. Time will do it's magic
@@KayK_Eleven Same as tyla and all those A list artist now. Our time will come
@@erickmodesto3751 I would have agreed with you if only you had contextualized your point from the get go when you say “time will do it’s magic”.
I agree with you. Language is an identity.
You just spoke my mind bro! be Original be your the original version of yourself❤
Nigeria is all over the world so stop comparing Nigeria with your country
She’s not comparing pls stop this nonsense. She’s finding solution for their artist and never insulted anyone. We Nigerians should know how to talk outside some times
Stop all these your rubbish and go back to listen to what she's saying. Always vawulence.
Lady you try ooh no be small. Anyway I believe your analysis is mediocritic. I wonder how Ragae music became global at it peak. Probably Jamaica population was also a factor?
Hahahaha, 😅content
😂😂😂
All diamond platinum songs are stolen Nigerian songs which he changes to Swahili....
Jamaica is 3m so cut that crap, Jamaica way above the rest of Africa in music 🎵
Rubbish...bill board removed dancehall and replaced it with Afro beats...Nigeria alone have 220 million people. Go to Nigeria you’ll find in the malls on street in the bus cabs etc strictly Afro beats...burna boy, wiz kid, Davido, rema, Tems, techno, yeti alade, tiwa savage etc are multi millionaires and sell out 20,000 capacity venues in uk, Europe, USA, Caribbean, Australia, Canada
Forget about your citizens, it's will be hard to change them, your artistse should leave their comfort zone break through the Nigerians main stream market let the Nigerians vibes to your music, all Africa will follow suit including Kenyans, i tell you that the secret
That's burna boy music you sang its pidgin English 😂😂😂 not English
Only one state in Nigeria is bigger than Kenya
guy receive sense!! Stop been ignorant or too arrogant. Kenya is about 2/3 size of Nigeria.
