@Yuethefox the problem with baking with Splenda is that the Splenda doesn't react or caramelize. If you need the sugar to caramelize then you can't use Splenda. If it's just for flavor then you can. You'd have to experiment. It might work on these particular cookies.
Biscochitos is the state cookie of New Mexico, that's how popular it is. Also I was always taught to pronounce it Bis-ko-hee-toes. My moms side of the family is from New Mexico and my brother always bragged that our grandma had the best. I don't know, everyone has their own recipe.
@tomlinid here is what you do. Next week there will be sugar added. Try it without any sugar or half the sugar I use in the video and see if that rocks for you. I haven't tried it with less sugar yet. One thing to remember is to use a little jam on something. Your supposed to spread it thin. Most people glop it on.
@Kiarnis I can't explain it, but these cookies must have milk or coffee. They are really screaming for moisture. LOL. I was dying for a glass of cold milk on the set.
i can't believe ur doing strawberrry jam next week! i usually bake cookies for my neighbors for christmas, but i just decided that this year i'm going to do strawberry jam and put it in cute mason jars. how ironic! lol. i've looked up other videos on it and was going to do it this week, but i think i'll wait and see ur version next week. can't wait! thanks jack... ur awesome, as always :)
@P4pst99 I have already decided not to take on another sponsor because I didn't feel right having it on the show. It took too much from the show. I loved empire covers but I will only be promoting my sauces and nothing else. Thanks for writing.
Check New Mexico Magazines website for 'authentic' biscos. Traditionally, as un-healthy as it may be, 'lard' is used to keep them moist. My gran would also add brandy or whiskey. Excellent 'Christmas morning' cookies with coffee!!!
Hey Joe! Are these biscohitos ''related'' to ''Berlin crowns?''. It's popular in Norway for Christmas (Berlinerkranser) and we make them in a similar way and use pearlsugar. Never seen cinnamon been used before, will definately try that!
Orange juice? Butter? Fish shape? Im from New Mexico an never had anything like that. The cookie is popular during Xmas time but If your looking to make it get the recipe from The New Mexico state website. The seed favor is off set by the sugar and cinnamon. It doesnt taste like licorice. When you use the cookie cutter on your rolled out dough only dip the top side of it and bake.
jack have u ever made home made fruit salad with orange juice with apples strawberries oranges and bananas its really good and im not the type of guy who grabs an apple and eats it only when im in the desert with no food haha and also very healthy
Jack I always seem to watch you're vids when I'm hungry! I really can't wait for the jam video I've wanted to make jam from scratch for a long time, except the other ways take long, yay for being lazy xD.
can you make this recipe without orange juice? Can it taste good with some other type of liquid? I'm not a big fan of orange juice :) I'm so trying this this christmas ^^
My mom's biscochitos look like that but she never used butter she used lard creamed like frosting no orange juice but im going to try that and we add the sugar and cinnamon after baked and everything is the same especially the flour she was very picky gold medal only for baking
@Karroo96 2 cups of sugar, 2 table spoons of bright/light syrup and a cup of milk should make caramel, but it could be scary for people who havent done it before as it has to bubble and rise multiple times its' size and then settle down for 30 seconds to 10 minutes before you take it off.
@smoothieking157 If we're going to get picky about pronunciation, then "de" is most definitely not "da", it's said as a flattened "duh", or "der" without the rolled "r" sound at the end.
If you brush the top of the cookies with melted butter before you put the cinnamon on, the cinnamon will stick and the cookie will become a nice, golden-brown.
Bottled orange juice is not "fresh orange juice." Fresh orange juice is juice that you just squeezed from an orange. Juice in a bottle is pre-made and pre-packaged far in advance of when it finally gets into your refrigerator. That isn't fresh.
I'm sorry but I think you should have creamed the sugar and butter together first because that batter looked gross at the beginning and that "funny looking thing" is called a paddle attachment
um How come you didn't use cookie cutters? Butter? Orange juice? Why didn't you use the Lard. Anise seed is cheaper if you use the Bueno brand bag. Anise from mccormick is not fresh. Sorry guys I will stick to my own way. Not impressed. :(

@tippylovesdaniel it smells like black licorice. it's a spice on the baking or spice aisle.

@JustNess78 i have already shot the video and can honestly say it came out great. Jack Jr. has been using the jam on his waffles in the mornings.
@Jennifer8Music yes. use a citrus juice if you can.
@FrailShiver We put all dry ingredients in the mixer. just add slowly and it should all be perfect.

@1980guyyy glad you like them.
No special Christmas intro this year?
Instead of the 1 3/4 of regular sugar could I use splenda? or is that a big no-no?
@liltiff90 thanks. I will refer to it by it's proper name next time. :D
@badmedusa check Wikipedia and other places. It can be spelled both ways.
@P4pst99 I have already decided not to take on another sponsor because I didn't feel right having it on the show. It took too much from the show. I loved empire covers but I will only be promoting my sauces and nothing else. Thanks for writing.
is the oven temperature in Farenheit or kelvin?
using 375 seems a bit too much for celcius(what we europeans use)

6:57 Did you put all the dry ingredients in the blender? Or just stop adding when the dough looked 'right'?

jack have u ever made home made fruit salad with orange juice with apples strawberries oranges and bananas its really good and im not the type of guy who grabs an apple and eats it only when im in the desert with no food haha and also very healthy

Jack & Joe, that could totally be a series:D
Jack I always seem to watch you're vids when I'm hungry! I really can't wait for the jam video I've wanted to make jam from scratch for a long time, except the other ways take long, yay for being lazy xD.
Using Lard is better then using the butter, it gives the cookies a better melt in your mouth consistency. Thats the New Mexico way
can you make this recipe without orange juice? Can it taste good with some other type of liquid? I'm not a big fan of orange juice :) I'm so trying this this christmas ^^
Joe is REALLY talented ,,, he should have his own cooking show :)
Excellent recipe! Was looking for a fun one to try for the holidays. ;)
@JamieSangret00 joe is a tall guy. I'm 5'6"
My mom's biscochitos look like that but she never used butter she used lard creamed like frosting no orange juice but im going to try that and we add the sugar and cinnamon after baked and everything is the same especially the flour she was very picky gold medal only for baking
oh wow my grandma makes these every Christmas too , shes from Belen
you should make some hard candy.. that would be awsome..i really want to learn how
That funky looking thing is called the paddle attachment. :)
Really nice!
@mike91118 The Anis makes the Biscochitos smell and taste like licorice. You dont need it but its best with. :)

Can you leave out the orange juice... I'm allergic :(
Those look tasssty!
Jack, sorry for the critique, but you cannot use tools intended for wet measurements for dry measurements. It's not accurate.
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS !!!
gonna make these right now :)
@badmedusa if your going to criticize my spelling, please use proper grammar in your comment. :D
Orange juice, would have never thought to use that..
Some recipes use LARD and orange zest instead of juice
@TheJosephChavez thanks for being on the show. Loved the recipe. You did an awesome job.
@StarbrightxStarlight But it's in the U.S....
So he's your brother?
@Jonesman08 Uhm yes lol its in between Texas and Arizona
Authentic Biscochitos don't have butter or orange juice
Jack, are you just really short or is Joe just really tall? Lol. Sorry ^-^ It was just something I really noticed :P
It is very important to use an HD mixer!
@smoothieking157 If we're going to get picky about pronunciation, then "de" is most definitely not "da", it's said as a flattened "duh", or "der" without the rolled "r" sound at the end.

This is not the traditional recipe, it should not have OJ, those do not look like fish plus they are too thick.
the funky looking thing is a paddle
How the hell do you even spell or pronounce that name? Ah heck, Biscuit Cheetos!
Cool :)
i learnt how to make pasta its easy but takes a long time because its got to set
@jakatak69 Thank for the fast reply Jack! :)
The flat mixer attachment is called a paddle lol.

Wait, there's a NEW Mexico? lol
@ jackatak69 no you said "Mexico and south united states" not Mexico and the southern united states fail
@matt95x New Mexico is in the southern united states. I knew what I was talking about.
I'm sorry but I think you should have creamed the sugar and butter together first because that batter looked gross at the beginning and that "funny looking thing" is called a paddle attachment
4th and yummy
I hope your jam isn't as sweet as Smuckers that has far too much sugar in it.

True biscochitos are made with lard not butter and you need not to be cooking
Fresh orange juice? hahaha Really?
