I found Ms. Navidad Manzanares today January 7th 2024, though I'm reaching 80 yrs. I will make biscochitos. I still have my grandma rolling pin. It was her's than my mom's and then mine. ❤
Watching Mrs. Manzanares warmed my heart and brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. She brought back so many wonderful memories my sweet Grandma and our many years of baking Biscochitos, tortillas, arroz dulce, chile Colorado, and so much more. Thank you for sharing. I just want to hug her!
Awww... such a nice comment. You're grandma reminds me a lot of my grandma. Let's cherish the wonderful memories. This brought tears to my eyes too. Im grateful for the video. #repent #maranatha #notw
😭😔🙏🏼🥰 I agree. I miss my grandmother and the Tias that lovingly made the delicious deserts and foods of the Spanish ancestors. ~Peace and Blessings. Off to make the biscochitos.🤗😋🤤💗🌺💗🌺💗🌺.
Yes this brought a tear to my eyes too, she reminded me of my grandma, my grandma would make biscochitos every Christmas it was a treat I miss soo much, a lot of people out here in California don’t know about it.... so many New Mexican dishes I miss
Natividad was known to me as Aunt Tivi, Tony her husband was my mothers cousin. When I say this video of her. It brought tears to my eyes and warmth in my hart. I proudly tell my daughters of my youth growing up in the la puente area. Cold winter perfect summers and Christmas at its best no money needed. I miss her them so much. I appreciate the gentle man that documented her. Thank you very much. I will be donating to that organization regularly. Virginia is another world from Northern New Mexico.
I'm from NM and can verify that this one is The Real Deal. Thank you for sharing this lovely bite of history, Senora Manzanares - you and your wisdom are a true treasure!
That apron, her painted nails, all the Corell and Pyrex, the OG Tupperware, and the unpretentious warmth of this woman and her kitchen....It’s all wonderful! I’m on a bizcochito making kick and will be making Mrs Manzanares’ recipe this afternoon. Thank you for this marvelous film!
Ok I'm writing the ingredients: 1 C Lard (she uses Morell, & you can do 2 C lard only instead of 1 C lard and 1 C shortening) 1 C Shortening (e.g. Crisco) 1 C White Sugar 3 Eggs 1/4 C Orange juice (or sweet wine/Brandy/whiskey) Dash of salt 1 Tbs Anise seeds 1 tsp Vanilla 6-7 C Flour (sifted with baking powder) 3 tsp Baking powder (or 1 Tbs Baking powder) White sugar and cinnamon for dipping the cookies.
@@killgore2408 Some recipes call for o.j, red sweet wine, or even whiskey for the liquid. We do o.j. and a bit of red wine. It just depends on the family. Enjoy!
This is my go-to every year. As many have commented, my family is also from New Mexico and have enjoyed these cookies for many years. My grandmother passed away over 15 years ago at 90....Ms.Navivad reminds so much of her. As children, we could never get enough of them. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful Ms. Navidad as it it allows me to continue her wonderful receipe which I now share with my 9 year old grandson every Christmas. God bless!!!
We have a big green Pyrex bowl exactly like that one! We lived in New Mexico many years ago, and that's where Mom got hers! Wow! We also used to get these cookies at the old La Hacienda in Old Town if we ate all our supper. We would park around back where the street, and maybe even the lot, was paved with strips of tar-paper or asphalt or something. There always seemed to be a Navajo Freight lines trailer parked on the other side of the fence, with its distinctive "blue-eyed Indian" painted on the side. What memories!
LOVE this video. Showed it to my fam. I was raised in Santa Fe. My mom is from there too. I'm a gringo, but I am hooked on all things New Mexico. Thank you for filming this. It's beautiful. She's awesome!
New Mexico is its own world- I know exactly what you mean. And it’s hard to understand unless you lived the New Mexico life. Viva New Mexico! I use orange zest too!
I come back every year to this video and have mi linda, Mrs. Manzanares, guide me to bake biscochitos for the holidays. Born in ‘Burque but raised in Cali, these cookies are always appreciated by my friends & fam here in San Diego.
I’ve probably said this so many times before cause I watch this video every Christmas season but she reminds me of my grandma so much. My grandma did the same thing with her ingredients which was just by eye really. I don’t get tired of watching this video that’s for sure.
I made these cookies for the first time tonight alone and man did they come out horrible. This video is just what I needed to give my heart warmth and gained confidence in trying again! 🥰 Feliz Navidad Señorita!
Lucky for the women and men who had grandparents. I only had one grandmother alive. But she passed away when I was very young. My parents had me late in life. So I enjoy watching watching like this.
My maiden name is Manzanares. My family is from Manassa, CO. This dear lady I bet is somehow related to the our Manzanares clan. She looks a lot like my gran tias.

I have never witnessed it in people from other places. It is distinct. Amazing to see. It’s what many of us know and grew up with. I really appreciate this video.

I love people like this, so warm and sweet. I would love to be her friend and make the cookies with her at her kitchen.
