His sets take you from irreverent side splitting laughter to deep emotional tragedy. The highs, the lows then you lose track of how long you’ve been holding your breath.
Loudon and his music -- which I thoroughly enjoyed -- were probably on the short list of elements that "M*A*S*H" experimented with -- and discarded -- as it searched for, and found, its legs in its first season. As the series progressed, Hawkeye got less aggressively randy with the nurses, Margaret became less stiff and more humane, and Klinger's dodges to get out of the Army got both more numerous and more (delightfully) creative. All of these were improvements -- except for ditching Loudon. I would have liked for him to be a folk-song Greek chorus throughout the series. (Of course he may have left the show because he had his eye on bigger and better things.)
Damn, I remember the episode. MASH was the only tv show my grandparent's poodle would sit and watch, in its entirety. But it took The Swimming Song in the new and great Reservation Dogs that turned me onto Loudon, and I thank Sterlin Harjo, et.al. for that.
"Unrequited to the Nth Degree" Oh when I die and it won't be long Then you're gonna be sorry that you treated me wrong. Yeah, you're gonna be sorry that you treated me bad And if there's an afterlife I'll gloat and I'll be glad. And I wonder if they miss us, Now wouldn't that be funny? Now that we're without them We can hardly stand ourselves. Well it's funny when they're here How we take for granted The way they taste, the way they feel, Their sight, their smell, their sound. And it's funny when they're gone Just how bad we miss them And how life can be so empty When they're not around.
Loudon was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame last week. There was a funny pre recorded message by Judd Apatow for the occasion.
Pure gold songs the best show ever made
john jensen No! It was very left-wingish and bad. See my channel.

So intense Wayne Rogers, my first crush.

Loudon didn't appear until the third season - I think the intention was more for him to guest star in a couple episodes that season.
Should have got Radar to play with him on drums
Loved this
