Monk means A LOT to me, it is my number one on TV. I watch all seasons than have one or two year break and then watch it all again. That's how much I love Monk. It feels to me like he is part of my life. Today I finished final episode and know that I will miss Monk during my break🙁 I have tears in my eyes seeing this very last scene😢

every time i see a finale of a show, I expect it to be in the level of how Monk ended with the song and a montage. Sadly no. No show finale will be at the level of Monk.
I never wanted to watch Monk. I thought it was quirky and would make me change my way of liking a TV sitcom. But I was wrong. It grew on me, and his character (and Tony's acting prowess) made me respect it even more. I didn't even realize I was near the end until I heard this song coming through the speakers, and then I got teary-eyed. Wow- this song got me over a sit-com! Thank you, Randy Newman and Tony Shaloub and everyone else associated with the show. I never watched one episode live, but I was wrong not to do so. It is a TV treasure, and this episode was a masterpiece.
Love how at the end of the series he's cured himself of all his issues. Like he's at peace with himself. But he still keeps doing what he does best, solving crimes.
Did you notice...1st time he wears a Tshirt and not a top-buttonned shirt...now that Trudy got justice and Molly is near him...he just allows himself to physically breathe. And Randy reached (the) Summit....
I've watched Monk since I was 8 years old but now (I'm 15) I think more about it and I understand how Monk feels and how important Trudy and her justice are to him and this scene always gets me end up crying. I think the song expresses his emotions very good. It deals with the farewell of him and Trudy because he solved the case of her murder. The moment he opened the present and caught her murderer, he let her go. He had nothing left of her that was unknown or new to him. There was nothing to explore anymore. He had just finished with that part of his life, though she will always be a part of him and he will always love her and never be able to be with another woman. He always said he wanted to solve the case for Trudy but the song says "the day i hoped would never come is here" because when he's arrived at this point, he actually sees that it's over now and he has to let her go, that he can't no longer hold on and has to move on. First the song says "I think you're gonna miss me when I'm gone" but in the end it says "I sure am gonna miss you when I'm gone" because he realizes that actually he is the one losing her and never seeing her again, even in his dreams because she was always there for him and helped him when he needed her. Now that he solved her case, he feels free and isn't afraid of everything anymore. He actually gets more confident. That's why he doesn't need her anymore to be there for him so he won't see her in his dreams anymore. But he will always be thankful for having her in his life. He also says that she made him a better man and that knowing her has made him strong because she gave him confidence and safety. With her he wasn't alone and she was the first person to understand him as the person he was and still help him to be the best version of himself and get more confident. He did whatever was necessary to make her happy, so he overcame his fears. Now he has Molly who encourages him to go on and don't be afraid. He really loves her like his own daughter because she reminds him of Trudy and she's all he has left of her. With her on his side he can move on after letting Trudy finally go. "I'm a modest man and it hurts me to say these things to you. But after all we've been through, it's the least that I can do. So instead of just goodbye I'll say so long..." means that he doesn't want to let her go, although she's already dead for (I think) 12 years. So he doesn't let her go completely, just for a moment until he will see her again in heaven. In Addition to that her last words were "bread and butter". She always said it when they went hand in hand and they had to let go because of a post on the sidewalk. She wanted to tell him she has to let him go for a moment but they would be together again sometime. I think that was very important to him so he had the courage to let her go.
Monk's full explanation of these words: Monk:"Whenever Trudy and I were walking somewhere, we'd hold hands. There was a lamp, poster or somebody walked between us and we had to let go for a second, she did always say bread and butter." Sharona:"So when she died?" Monk:"I think it was a message for me. She was saying "I have to let go now for a little while but it won't be forever.""
my favorite part of this scene is when monk checks the stove as a callback to the first scene of monk where he is worried about the stove cuz those are the only 2 scenes were he checks the stove
Get the sinking feeling every time. So sad, the show ended but so happy monk found happiness and closure. Wish monk would come back but I feel like it couldn’t end any better.
Monk and Leland will be friends for eternity. His actions every time Monk was in danger showed that. Yes, Leland wasn't going to kill The Judge because Monk asked him to. He was going to kill The Judge if Monk died. It was never said, but Leland would have done it.
The best tv show ever. Specially for one thing - Adrian Monk never changed. He will always be an OCD man. That's good, 'cause life don't have a happy end. That's real. Love Adrian Monk and his buddies.
Re-watching this as an adult, this song and what Monk went through just hit so much harder than it did when I saw this series as a kid. What an absolute masterpiece.

Merci !!!!
I just watched the Final Episode today on DVD. I never saw this, I lost Foxtel before I could see it, and I nearly cried. The ONLY way this would have been better, would be if Trudy appeared at the end, and then vanished with a smile.
She did in a way though. She didn't just leave him, she gave him Molly so he always had someone who cared about him. And she knew he would be finally happy again. The smile you are searching for is to see in the smile of Molly and also Monk himself as the Trudy he saw over the years after her death was his inner voice, him not being able to let go of her yet. And his smile is him finally letting go, setting him free.
Sr. Monk me dez companhia por meses, enquanto chorei e sorri com ele nas 8 temporadas. Aprendi com ele a rir de uns tocs q tenho e até passei a enxergar alguns desses tocs como um presente. Série inesquecível. Monk forever in my heart!!!
Today I finished the final episode, as per one comment below...he too became a part of me. What a fantastic TV show, the entire cast and crew did an outstanding job. This final shot made me cry, although I experienced this show this year 2022 and not like many other people since it began...it felt like it did every season. And the song goes right to your feelings.
Monk is a show I have to force myself to step away from. Every time I watch through it I have an overwhelming bittersweet sadness from this song that makes me want to go right back to the first episode and watch it all over again, but I know that, to me, it cheapens the ending. The finale wouldn't get to have its ending if you go right back to the starting line. It puts Monk right back to "square one," where he was stuck for so many years. I just always have to keep that in mind so I can let the ending resonate with me for a while.

I don't remember exactly but they were watching a video from when Monk was a kid and he was alone and segregated. But I think it was the episode of the radio host who murdered his wife with the help of the neighbor's dog that he trained to open the gas valve of a fireplace.

Nope. It’s perfect the way it is. They would completely ruin it if they brought it back.
Love how at the end of the series he's cured himself of all his issues. Like he's at peace with himself. But he still keeps doing what he does best, solving crimes.
He’s not cured, but he’s in control. Basically this is the version of Monk Trudy was married to.
Absolute perfect ending.
Indeed, indeed.
It could not have ended better. It was the perfect ending for Monk
I like how he they came back to the stove just like the first episode,
