Xaver Varnus' first piano teacher was Emma Németh, one of the last pupils of Debussy. He has played virtually every important organ in the world, including those in Bach's Thomaskirche in Leipzig (2014), Berliner Dom (2013), Notre-Dame (1981), Saint-Sulpice (2006) and Saint-Eustache (1996) in Paris, National Shrine in Washington, D.C. (1985), and Canterbury Cathedral (2004), as well as the largest existing instrument in the world, the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia (1985). His Quadruple Platinum Disc winning album "From Ravel to Vangelis" (SONY, 2007), is the best-selling organ CD ever. As a Canadian citizen, Xaver Varnus resides in Berlin, and in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia Peninsula, where he opened Varnus Hall in a 19th century church. "Put simply, Varnus is a monster talent, every bit as stimulating and individual as the late Glenn Gould" (The Globe & Mail, Canada's National Newspaper). "He is one of the most influential figure in organ music in the early twenty-first century." (Mark Wigmore, The New Classical FM, Canada).

Being "in the hall" when a composition such as Beethoven's 5th is being played must be an earth-moving experience. The 5th is one of the most profound symphonies under any circumstances, and to have a person of Xaver Varnus' skill level play it on a pipe organ would be a fantastic thing to participate in.
Timeless beauty of great music and performer thank you ❤
The audio quality is phenomenal.
Így is csodàlatos volt ! Èlőben pedig varázslatos! ;-)

Maestro Varnus, a seat at any one of your upcoming concerts is my only bucket list event. Alas, the Make-A-Wish foundation doesn't hear 63 year old goats with bone cancer.

This ABSOLUTELY STUNNING combination of geniuses definitely deserves waaay better place and organ - only thing which can´t let me to be totally amazed is just that not so great sound, which is criminally bad. Otherwise this rendition will be flawless as it can humanly could be.
Nagyon szépen játszik
Thank you 😊🇬🇧

IF i only could... impressive in the least.. Danke Schoen.... rich sheff.. milan MI usa :)
such a fantastic sound . is the organ electric or is there piping running under the floor boards to reach the pipes . thanks
The stage console is electrically connected to the organ via a cable. There is also a mechanical (tracker) console up the balcony 🙂
Greg, your mention of 'piping' probably refers to the popular late 19thC/early 20thC electro-pneumatic action. This design was very popular for English style town hall organs. These could be quite tonally rich due to air channelling, but they're not seen much these days. Piece of trivia, the world's largest electro-pneumatic pipe organ still in regular use is in the Sydney Town Hall, Australia.

IRRE!!! Perfekt!!!
..a bit slow paced, yet nice performance.
Uhm...I'm not sure about this. Will re-visit. Initial feeling? Mr. Varnus interpretation kinda spotty. Some he gets right. Other? Well...;.again, maybe its just me. Another day.
By saying anything not-positive about his performance, it only makes yourself look silly 😁 This performance is so strong and good that any argument bounces back right into your stomach 🤠
Varnus is cool, but hey, we all know he's kitsch as hell. Just go with it :-)
It shows the organ can bring so many beautiful and different sounds. But it was really played to slow...
A lot of liberties taken with the metre. Also not sure if I agree with some of the registrations which seem to chop it up. Technically masterful though
I love this rendition, but how it's filmed is bad. It doesn't do justice to the player, the organ is incredible and stunned audiences, Beethoven 5th and
Impressive. Seems like an AI user interface.
XV is a genius, whatsoever. Yet I rather listen to organs.
SZIP0RKAZO TEHETSEG VAGY!😅
Difficult to play
I found it terrible to see such talents playing music not at all written for organ...what is the sense of playing symphonic adaptations to organ, an instrument for which thousands of works have been specifically written. Sorry to say so, to me this is stupid.
Imagine just enjoying music instead of being stirred up about the music not being original to the pipe organ
So, are you calling Liszt, Kalkbrenner, Wagner and Czerny, who all made piano arrangements of the Beethoven symphonies, stupid? They wouldn't think much of you, that's for certain. They would think you were quite rude. Mind what you say! Tact is the way! (And that even rhymes!)
By that "reasoning" Ravel's orchestral adaptation of Pictures At An Exhibition is to be ignored. And no instrument *other* than the organ should ever play the Toccata and Fugue in D. Yeah, right.
poor performance. Totally out of style.
