Ahhh. You were bang on about the color too. Which Dalmore is known for. This whiskey was intended to be sipped with cigars. Which means your palate would be too coated to notice any funny business.

I swear that e150a is actually a key part of the flavour profile of some Dalmore. The Whyte & Mackay group have plenty to answer for.
I've never had a Cigar but that sounds... unpleasant 😉 thanks for the info.

I completely agree about Dalmore.. best thing they have going for them is the bottle? Lol

Dalmore, of course. I was thinking what it could be going on your notes and why it was in the box. Dalmore fits the bill perfectly. I guess the reason you and I couldn't guess it is because Dalmore is hardly ever mentioned in the whisky chat. It's not a whisky made for us folk and has a completely different purchaser profile. That stuff is chill-filtered and coloured all over the place. I was given a present of the 15 year old and it just tasted of overused casks which required colouring at its 40%. Dalmore is a show off office malt like Macallan because whisky and a cigar = Success. But it's watered down and filtered for ice in a tumbler. There's nothing Premium about the Cigar Malt as you say and I go back to what I said in an earlier round regarding the contents of MOM's Premium box. It's a beginner's Premium box. There's some decent stuff in it but some pretty questionable stuff too.

I feel like there's a common theme going on particularly with this Dalmore, the JW Blue Label and probably the House of Hazelwood too. Premium but not in a good way. Think you're right about some tired old casks being used in the Cigar Malt. Most likely what were pretty good European sherry butts at one point. The casks contribute bitterness and spice but none of the other usual pleasant notes you would associate with that type of cask.

Not tried this one, only their 12 YO and Portwood, for a moment I thought the ‘haters are going to hate’ when you mentioned Glendronach. I’m actually disappointed for you that this wasn’t a Macallan but the distillery that it ended up being is a very close second for ‘premiumising’ is that a word? Their whisky, nice call again 👏

I'm still a big fan of Glendronach 🙂 so I knew it wasn't that. I was just riffing off of that heavily sherried old fashioned style. The new 15 revivval isn't as good as the old but it's still very good. I haven't tried the new CF versions of anything yet though... and it is infuriating that they even did that.
With a bit more time I would have probably at least mentioned Dalmore. Premiunising should be made a word specifically for Dalmore if it's not already. I've never had a Dalmore that was worth the price tag and always too weak👎

      @@WhiskyLock So do I!
      Cheers..
My market is full of fancy Dalmores...I just have no desire to own any...
I still have an unopened Balvenie 15 single barrel from 2011. The 2010 is the 2nd bottle I found from the same barrel...So good...I like sherry more than you; but, I am glad I found these single barrels before they switched to sherry.
