I was a Tamper operator at SP/ UP from 1996-1998 before I went in operation. I haven't heard "spiral" in a while. All prototype curves are "spiraled" with a degree of super elevation ( banking ). Also don't forget the 100' tangent rule between opposite curves.
A great looking start to the layout. Disappointing to see a brand-new locomotive needing adjustment to something as basic as driver quartering, however.
I am very eager to see this next installment, Dave! I'm hoping to use some of the tips and tricks here for my own HO layout, which will be based around the Lake Tahoe area, but will be snowy nonetheless
Really nice desert landscaped layout in ho scale. And yes you did create the illusion of a much larger layout by the use of a tunnel and rock structures. The hard work you put in on the scenery really paid off. Well done. I enjoyed the video.
Its a nice change of pace. Reminds me of a Commissioned N scale layout I'm wrapping up with a very similar "philosophy" of simplicity. But leans more on that through showcasing common items on sale at the store the layout will reside in. "You too can build this layout if you spend a small fortune on ready built Woodland Scenics and Kato products!" 😆
Happy Thanksgiving! Awesome building skills Dave!👍 I’ve been binge watching all of the 297 6 years of videos you made! I suggest everyone to watch them!👍
@@ThunderMesaStudio I used to own a woodland scenic grand Valley HO scale layout and I always operate those coaches with a Bachmann spectrum Mogul I was originally wanting to get a Santa Fe 4-4-0 like you have but I never got a chance to get one
Dear Dave, interesting how the PIR foam can be formed to shape. Seems to me like this kind of foam is more similar in properties to the carving foam you’ve shown and used. The relative ease with which the foam can be formed into a rock face reminds me of the the relative brittle aspects of PIR. Especially when it’s a lower density version. Humbly think the higher density versions come indeed close to the carving foam properties. Great little project, curious to see this project develop into a snowy landscape. Cheerio
I enjoy watching the step-by-step progress on this layout because it’s small, affordable and very customizable! BTW: Years ago I was given the Hawthorne Village Train Disney Mickey & Friends Christmas Through The Years and it came with very similar track (maybe Kato?). The train itself seems to be On30 scale as it’s at least 1/3 larger than my HO trains - but maybe you would know for sure (you can easily find photos online of this train set). We usually just set up a non-running straight in front of our Christmas village but this is a great option!
Big fan of you and your studio, sir. I am an artist and designer as well, so watching you inspires me constantly. I keep thinking how I can add something to my Christmas train that goes around the tree. I love the idea of snow on an old west town.
As I mentioned in Part 1, friends of mine have achieved good results with it so I thought I'd give it a try. It does carve and cut very easily once you get the wrapper off.
Always a pleasure to see these mini projects come to life so quickly!

The Bob Ross of model trains. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
Never to much rock work. I have all my HO stuff....need to do something like this!
I love watching you work. You're like the Mr. Rogers of model railroading.

The wizard is letting us look behind the curtain. Thank you for these wonderful videos. I have admired your layout for years!!!
What an exciting Ho layout build. So much fun watching a master at work. Can't wait for part 3.
GOD BLESS 🚂💖🎄💖🚂💖🎄💖

A small fortune is right
It's always fun to watch you build a layout. Your architectural style is interesting, thanks for showing it and have a nice weekend.
Another great video!
I really like all your foam techniques

Looking great. Can’t wait for episode 3.
One of my thoughts on using foam materials is the mess! However, you make some serious points on it's use!!!
I have a set of yellow and red Santa Fe coaches from Roundhouse Trains I ordered them from a historic road and Rail catalog mini moons ago
Nice

Love the insight! Had no idea about the spiraling curve concept
Why have you used the material that you needed to peel off the plastic or fiber covering? Is this material a better/stronger choice?

Comme le dit @txag007, c'est toujours un réel plaisir de voir évoluer et grandir ces petits réseaux thématiques.
