- While his parents were out working four jobs, Cambo spent his time learning how to survive in the rough backwoods of Alabama. When they went through a brutal divorce, he naturally fled to the woods to be alone. No traffic, no people, no responsibility-just pure survival.
The plan was to wait out his adolescence there until he could legally live life without his parents. He ended up spending two years alone in the wild. This episode of Profiles by VICE, from director Harmony Korine, tells Cambo's story.

@@SurferGirlAllAroundTheWorld Started out over a decade ago, writing a movie "kids". Reality movie about the REAL deal of being a teenager 14-16 in a large metropolitan city. Unsupervised teens doing what unsupervised teen REALLY do after school, away from home, sex, drugs, alcohol, pregnant teens etc. Highly acclaimed movie, as have been most of his work. But these are not mainstream. First movie he produced was Gummo. He gets lots of critical acclaim, but will never be a "blockbuster" director. Check out Kids, it's on UA-cam.

I don't know about the weed, but, definitely cooking meth.
Most of the people who live in the forest/in the wild are either criminals or get money from relatives. Since he claimed he didn't have any family it is more than certain he makes his living illegally. Whether it's stealing or producing drugs, we don't know. Cooking meth is probably the easiest way for someone like him to make money. But he also could be diversifying his "business ventures" and doing all sorts of illegal things.

I’ve known Hillbilly’s most of my life. It may surprise some people how simple a person can live without being a simple person. Everything in life requires some sort of upbringing or education. My great grandparents came to this Country and could get by without purchasing a thing. The gardens they tended and the animals they raised and butcher themselves was plenty for not only them but a small village. They shared everything they had and never asked for payment because they all came from places much worse that took everything they owned. They still worked paid taxes and raised their children to respect the elders and obey the law. To help if you can and if you can’t then try to help them find someone that can. It didn’t matter where you where from your religious background or the color of your skin, because truthfully by the time you came out of the mine it was dark out and everyone was black as night inside and out with coal dust. And it didn’t matter which god you prayed too, you just thanked them that you and your crew weren’t buried alive. This kid sound like he is trying to play a modern Mississippi River, Huck Finn. More shantytown than Hillbilly. Both have similar stereotypes like being racist or uneducated. They don’t have any more of this than any other group out there regardless. If this kid is real and this isn’t just a character then I think as long as he is happy and isn’t bothering anyone than enjoy life. The only thing that would cause me to hate on him would be the having a child and not being a father. Just because your on a birth certificate doesn’t make you a man or a father. You played the grown up card and got dealt a son because of it. Stop playing huckleberry Finn and earn an income to help raise him to a productive member of society. Teach him to hunt and fish and be an honest person. Prove to his mother you can be a reliable influence in his life and I would almost bet she will gladly enjoy the help. I really admire this guy. I was born in north eastern Kentucky and always just wanted to live in the woods but unfortunately I was dragged away by my family to the Outer Banks NC. Although this is a sportsman's Paradise I had to adopt a different kind of lifestyle than i wanted. I hope to get back to nature at some point in the coming years.

I have lived in the woods since I was 20, 15 years. I have a decent cabin now, solar power and internet. This has only been recently. I lived off the land in a hand made Cabin for 5 years. Saved some money and built a Small Cabin/Cottage right beside it. Lived in that for another 3 years with no power. I have been a semi-hermit for most of my adult life. Me and my dogs. Hunting and fishing to survive. I agree with this guy Cambo, yall are stressed over cars, money, marriage and bullshit. For what? You die and it's all gone. You barely get to show it off to anyone, I mean that's all it is right? To show other people what you have, 🤔. Everytime people come to my Cabin they are amazed at it. It's beautiful, right on the river and a Canopy of trees. They ask how much it cost me lol a few solitary years and hand tools. Dedication and determination. You people just pay someone to do it for you... $300k on a house, worth less then an acre lot. Your car has payments you can barely afford. You wake up angry to go to work, you go to bed angry. Your out of shape because you have no spare time to exercise or be active. It's disgusting what yall put yourselves through. Cambo has it all figured out, enjoy life, it's only short.

I have an illness that makes me be sick from like 7 in the morning when I wake till like gone midnight every couple minutes due to stress when it's set off that is and other things and being around peoples stupidity angers me daily and it is pretty much my dream to just walk out into a big forest and live of the land and eventually build a little cabin but I cant do it now I've got a family

Sad thing here is that history repeated itself. Son who lost touch with his family because of a divorce. And now his son shares the same fate. I hope Cambo calls on the same courage it takes to survive alone in the woods for 2 years, and fixes things with his son someday.

I can honestly say that this video QUITE IMPRESSED me. I am a 67 year old RETIRED Canadian who spent many years as an Entrepreneur then 20 years as a Special Ed. High School Teacher. I even did a year of Teacher exchange in Baltimore (Yikes!) Was engaged to a Software Engineer who owned her own company out in Palo Alto...and so on and so on. In the early years (70s) I spent some time rather like Cambo.The thing that really impresses me is how genuine he is. That cave he has just blew me away. I love Harmony Korine movies and he is a good documentary film maker as well. I wish there were more like him in the entertainment business. As for Cambo this dude is bad ass, we could all learn from this dude about survival of every kind. I would love to see a book or a full length doc

No you won’t, I knew these great brothers that grew up in the hills of Appalachia who were the sweetest most protective people. Had no running water or plumbing and hated when people treated them ad dumb hillbillies, cause the older one was extremely smart. Both were Experts in self defense and weapons. And tracking and hunting. On land and water. One got his black belt. They asked him how he had gotten so good. He said he had studied years on his own. Reading books and watching videos of masters and meditating.
