Hi Karen, I'm a new subscriber who came over from Caroline's channel.
One nice activity is to 'shop your wardrobe.' You can co-ordinate different outfits, including accessories, then hang them together in your wardrobe and wear them throughout the week. This can save you valuable time in the morning, too. 😊
I love doing jigsaws and although I generally buy them from the company in order to support them, Vinted sells so many puzzles, often for a couple of quid.
Thanks for all the great ideas. Have a good week, and wishing you and Warren all the very best.

Great video Karen, I think with the library, getting a book that you want to read makes you feel happy too because it hasn't cost you anything. I think a lot of us are trying to be more savvy nowadays, it's needs must xx

Really good tips on this video Karen. I must get back to using the library. I used to go regularly and we should support our libraries anyway so that we don’t lose them. I really enjoy keeping a journal. It’s nothing fancy, more like a diary I guess. I find it so therapeutic even through difficult times. It feels like offloading to a friend and makes me feel better. I don’t always write in it everyday. Sometimes I write lots and other times not. When I look back through it I see that most things pan out and come right and you can feel pleased at how you got through. And use it in the good times too! And I do believe in counting my blessings, even tiny things as you say. It reminds me how lucky I am even though I may be going through a challenging time x

Very interesting Karen. I learned how to become a ‘bead weaver’ it’s making jewellery but with tiny beads. I did it every afternoon, and became quite obsessed, but I must admit the sense of achievement and feel good factor was immense. Sadly my eyes are not as good as they were now so I don’t do it anymore. I do a bit of crafting too. I’m a terrible shopaholic and I can’t afford it either, however I do a lot at the charity shop, and have named myself second hand Rose! Keep your chin up at this highly difficult time for you and your family. Having Christian faith can also help enormously.

Sometimes I rearrange the whole living room then decide I preferred it like it was before so I have to move it all back. I suppose it’s a good workout if nothing else 😂

My Karen, you have put a lot of thought and work into making this video. Lots of interesting ideas some of which we take very much for granted. You mentioned Audible, (which I belong as well, but it does cost per month) and the library. All libraries are linked to the Borrowbox app via the library membership number, and ebooks, and audiobooks can be borrowed free of charge. Probably not as much selection as Audible but at no cost. Someone has mentioned the u3a organisation which most town have a branch, and the annual fee is not very much. The one I belong to has lots of group activities, monthly meetings with a speaker and refreshments, walking groups, outings and theatre visits to name a few. Thank you for making this video. I think it will be of interest to many of your viewers.

Hi Hazel - I've just recently heard of Borrowbox so I'll have a look at that. A couple of other viewers have also mentioned U3a so I'll have a look at that too! Thanks :-) x

I joined the University of the third age (U3A )and would recommend it to anyone. Membership is 12 pounds a year at my local one . They arrange all sorts of classes, this year I have played darts, learned to play Canasta, quizzed. I also went to a beading jewellery class, I was not very good at it but have had great fun sourcing old necklaces etc from charity shops to remake into bracelets and necklaces. They also run theatre trips and lunch clubs.

Interesting.......I hate shopping, that's why I watch lovely ladies like you who trail the shops for me so I just need to click n collect.
My hobbies are sewing, I buy quilt covers from charity shops and repurpose them. I also sing in a community choir. A couple hrs a week when I can't think of anything except the music and then practicing at home during the week. We also have 2 big dogs who drive me crazy and Keep me sane in equal measure

Hi Karen, this was so interesting !
I definitely shop too much ( especially online 😬)
I’m retired and we downsized to a retirement flat 2 years ago, and we still have a quart being shoved into a pint pot 😂We have far too many possessions , and keep saying we’ll declutter , but never do. I have embroidery kits, diamond art kits ( that I’ve found out I’m too clumsy to do!), and wool and knitting patterns unused 🤷‍♀️I bought these while I was still working!
I remember step 😀Like you I had my own step ( Reebok I think), and I loved it, and got addicted , however, I think it may have caused osteoarthritis in my knee( so the GP said), as well as aging ,plus being overweight 😫
I’ll definitely try some of the things you have mentioned xx

Finally, someone not doing a bloody “shopping haul”. So depressing for people that can’t afford all these new clothes, which by the way, over half of which they send back!,, ❤❤❤

    • @frugalitystartsathome4889
      @frugalitystartsathome4889 19 днів тому +1

Have to agree. It just strikes me as completely selfish to be ordering a ton of totally unnecessary clothes, trying them on just for the camera, and then sending it straight back - you’d think people would have stopped such behaviour in these straitened times, but no. You wonder what on earth they do with the few things they do keep - they must have wardrobes like warehouses - and where on earth they go or what they do to necessitate all these outfits. And sadly, it seems to always be older women who do it, and equally older women urging them on…
