- Here's another Emergency Broadcast System test that aired on WMAQ Channel 5 one Saturday afternoon.
"This is a test. For the next sixty seconds this station will conduct a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. This is only a test.
This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. The broadcasters of your area in voluntary cooperation with the FCC and other authorities have developed this system to keep you informed in the event of an emergency.
If this had been an actual emergency, you would have been instructed where to tune in your area for news and official information. This concludes this test of the Emergency Broadcast System.
Voiceover by Ed Grennan.
This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, November 21st 1981 during the 12pm to 1pm hour.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,000+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

Hmmmm, creepy glowing orange lettering on a black background - yeah, I can see where some viewers might find this scary.
Not to mention the word “emergency” and the siren-like sound.
Oddity Archive brought me to your channel. Love all the content. Keep up the good work.
Oh yes, relics from the Cold War. When my mother was in school it was "Duck and Cover." I went to school from 1977-1991 (including Head Start) and I remember this stuff. I didn't know back then what a "fallout shelter" was...I remember those black-and-yellow signs.
Hey, remember when the Mister Softee ice cream trucks had the _Civil Defense_ logo on it? Cold treats for a cold war.
@@josephheston9238 Whoa! The Ice Cream Conehead mascot was a Civil Defense member? Damn, I need to look into that!
@@CommissionerLawWonder86 I shit you not. The ice cream trucks had those logos.
This was the year A Chipmunk Christmas was released. It aired on December 14, 1981
Hmmm this actually aged quite well as of 2022
I remember tests like these on Saturday mornings.
awww no jingle
Emergency 🚨 take cover now
EBS > EAS
Rip ebs. Such a great little system saving lives daily
Hmmm. I might make a custom EBS test video for my channel, but I'm not referring it to EBS. I'll call it the ETS. The Emergency Tuber System. Tuber referring to UA-camrs like myself. Oh, I hope the FCC doesn't strike it down.
