My first car in H.S. was a 73 VW camper top. Manual transmission, brakes and steering. More fun to paint it then to drive it! 😂

Joni this is so cool. We lived about 5 miles from the beach growing up and then my young husband joined me there and he always had a couple of VW buses. Many good memories hanging out in them and watching him work on them...we were so young..

@@joniyoungart ...you know back then in southern California we used to get them for about $200 and he would swap out parts or even the body...I think they cost a lot more now. I dont think they are safe to drive in any kind of inclement weather...they can tip over. But yeah that would be so cool...I hope you can suprise him someday.
We sadly arent married anymore... not for a long time...but those were great memories of being so young!!

great tutorial Joni! that's nice you let people know if they don't have the exact color you are using, that they can use another similar color paint. and also good idea to tell people they can slow down the video, i always forget that i can do that! also this painting makes me wish i was at the beach in Cali right now instead of in rainy cold Pittsburgh :((((((

I love it !!! I'm sure your husband will love it as well ! I'm sure I would need to do a sketch with a pencil and a good eraser first for the van !!! I don't feel confident enough to go directly with the brush and paint !!!

The vw badge should be perfectly inline with the centre of the split windscreen.. other than that its absolutely stunning!! Awesome job!!
Cute Video! I had trouble following your use of the fan brush for clouds as well as creating the clouds just before you started with the fan brush, maybe a close-up of and slow down of the technique? Just one portion? oh, I have found the use of a flat or mat black when trying top paint tires is a bit easier to create tires in acrylic. Nice palm trees, just lovely!

This looks so cool!!! Reminds me of California in the summer :) when I was in college, during one of my school’s art gallery shows, someone painted a yellow vw bug on a california interstate. This reminded me of that :) I want to try to follow your tutorial now :)
I have a question Im hoping you can help me with. After I varnish my paintings and the varnish is dry, I notice that they sometimes stick to stuff. Is there any way to get rid of that stickiness?
Thanks Kat! Unfortunately I can’t offer advice on varnish as I don’t use it.. I use resin for my finished pieces or leave them as is..
