- Senior dogs can be particularly difficult to feed. Their metabolism has slowed down, and they may even have some health concerns that can be helped with the right diet. Before you decide to switch your dog's diet (whether he's a senior or not) you need to discuss the change with your veterinarian or a trained canine nutritionist. Trying to make the switch yourself could lead to malnutrition or nutrient toxicity. This homemade senior dog food will not be nutritionally balanced for every dog, so be sure to check with your vet about supplements and/or multivitamins that would be beneficial to add to the recipe.
"Once the food has cooled, you can feed it to your dog. The recommended serving size is about 1/2 cup for every 25-30 pounds of body weight. This recommendation is for 2 servings per day."

This is great, thank you. I have a senior dog that in his prime he was around 90 pounds and active. He is now around 75 or 80 pounds, and relatively inactive as a senior dog. It seems 1 1/2 cups would be the correct portion size, but how many times a day would you say he needs to eat this recipe? Thanks again for posting

@@jaycarmona Funny and no but some of these recipes are people friendly and healthy.The trouble is that sometimes my dog won’t eat what I make and then she begs for food off of my plate. I am always trying to tweak my recipe a bit.

You should tell people to Powder the eggshells in the blender a senior dog often can not eat these with ease. Blueberries are better if smashed because they are seniors dome of them don’t have good teeth

Hi, My dog is 13y.o this year and his palette is really decreasing. I should try making this :) but, what if he doesn't want to eat..? is there any way to make them eat..?
the only thing you can do is wait. Not giving them more food until they eat what you give them. Just like a little kid😁. They will be fine not eating for a little bit. If he doesn't eat it after two days then he REALLY doesnt want it lol. As long as he drinks water!
Variety is key when they are picky! Always change it up!

Yes, you can. Just remember, beef has more fat than ground turkey or chicken.
Please consult with your vet or a veterinary nutritionist. Dogs with pancreatitis should have very low fat diet.
My Papillon won’t eat blueberries or any berries.....what can I substitute
They can also eat strawberries and blackberries, try either of those.
my dogs do not blueberries either. You can put in squash, small pieces of mashed up apple.

Dogs would not naturally eat beef in the wild...try ground turkey or chicken instead of the beef.

Brown rice isn't that healthy. In fact, it has far more inorganic arsenic in it than white rice.
Vets know basically NOTHING about food. A healthy dog doesn’t need them, they are a business after all😬

Well, commercial animal food has become so toxic that it's almost necessary to prepare pet food ourselves to keep them healthy. Also, commercial pet food has gotten to be very expensive. So, those are my reasons for preparing my pets' meals at home. 😊
