    I build them because they look great and they are much better then any store bought rod

    When you really feel the difference in custom rods is when you fish the big fish, cos the rods fit your hand n usually lighter n more balanced for the long fight. On a long range boat there’s no mistaken identity of taking your tod.

    Professionally I deal with very expensive production items. We build "custom" models in development of the production dedign. Almost always the "custom" design reveals some fatal flaw. Before spending big bucks for a custom rod, I would want to see the history of the custom builder, particularly since it's nearly impractical to get warranty service. Bottom line: I think the cost of two production rods vs one custom rod, pushes my decision to production and let my ego go without "my specifications". The fish certainly don't care and my concern is fish in the boat. Great Tackle Tuesday. Thanks.

      A custom rod is only as good as the builder. If you find a good builder you can have a great rod that'll last a lifetime

    As a custom rod builders I'm gonna be kinda biased, obviously. True reason to buy custom over production, QUALITY. You said quality fuji guides when clearly those are bargain bin bottom shelf aluminum oxide and stainless on that $120 production rod. On my $120 builds I at least do zirconium. Only reason the buy production..... availability and convenience..... Not every rod builder will strip a broke blank for FREE and at cost rebuild your custom blank. Big manufactures make about 40 percent profit on store bought rods over $99 and the store markup is even more, support your custom rod builders like us at Jelsma Rod Co. Because we want you to have the best equipment possible at a reasonable price. Most of our builds we make a little less than 7 percent profit, your dollar goes way farther. Also if you like a production rod buy it, send to us to upgrade. we wrap guides at $10 a foot, and double foot guides are $17 for wrapping. Call or email for anything custom we quote same day. Great vid guys keep it up.

    However if you break a custom rod then most of the time it is the blanks fault since they’re built on spine which can help strength. If one of my customers breaks a rod on a fish I’ll strip it for free and get a new blank and build that one at cost of materials. If they slam it in the tailgate of a truck then that’s on them

    Custom rods look so much better I have been building rods for 20 years the most important thing is the fact that they last and look good while doing so. Store bought rods don't last and have lots of mestakes in the blanks that u can't see.

    I wish they made custom reels becuz I honestly spend a lot more on my reels than on my rods but do u know anyone who makes custom reels tho?

    • @Mattp36fishing
      @Mattp36fishing 7 років тому

      you can but custom Basia reels from Daiwa

    • @billdavis6900
      @billdavis6900 7 років тому +1

      It depends on what you mean by "custom reel." If you're just talking about the colors then yes you can have reels custom colored and engraved. If you're talking about literally making a reel that's one of a kind in size and configuration the only way that would be possible is if you were willing to spend like $10,000 on one reel. The conception, engineering, design, and machining of a reel and all it's parts isn't practical to build a single reel. Reel companies spread that cost among the thousands of a single model of reel they will sell. The biggest single cost of building a reel is the initial design and set-up. Think of it like a motorcycle. You can buy a production motorcycle off a lot for $15 to $45k but one of those custom bikes like on those shows can be $180K to $250k and more.

    No, they are not. Unless you want to be flashy or have that cosmetic touch. Custom rods normally do not have any advantage over quality modern production rods.
    Take it from someone who's been fishing for over a decade and already tried that coolaid.
