I grew up in Honolulu. Whenever I visit I look for where locals eat breakfast. Usually cheap good food. Greatest score was a place I stumbled upon when visiting the liquor store in Lihue, Kauai. Saw lots of people going in and out of this unmarked door. Peeked inside and it looked like a school cafeteria. $5.95 for lau lau, rice, mac salad and a drink, served on a banana leaf on a tray. Best food I've ever eaten.

Bro the teriyaki spot is legit, ate there almost daily. Order food then walk up to a souvenir shop, grab a tall long board. Go back and grab your food and enjoy that life

So many feels seeing Waikiki. All the food looked 'ono, especially the bentos at U-Kitchen. And, all so reasonably priced! The sherbert from Asato Family looked so refreshing it made my mouth water. I smiled seeing that it was "local kine." Thanks, you two, for another yummy and informative video!

Mahalo for sharing! I’m already a big Asato customer. Our freezer is packed right now. I want to check out U Kitchen for that Nori Bento! And Potama! We don’t have to wait till we travel to Okinawa. Hi boys! I absolutely love that you made this video for us, especially with the way prices continue to climb at restaurants and fast food establishments. It’s so good to see that you can eat on a budget in Waikiki. All of the dishes looked so good, especially that poi dog! It looked amazing! The sausage reminds me of the kurobuta arabiki sausages that I always purchase at Tokyo Central Market. Take care and thank you again!

I saw somewhere (perhaps NHK news) that there is a shortage of nori (and also poor quality nori) due to bad weather and red tide outbreak in the Ariake Sea, Japan.

Like misubi on steroids, lilikoi lemonade, a Bourdaine approval and curry battered bento...wowza😅 in a chunk of fried chicken... tropical rainbow of such affordable culinary choices in the Waikiki area was unknown to me. Knowledge is power! Never imagined a salted lemon gummie bear sherbet...sweet and sassy!

Those are great tips you guys gave us for Wakiki, thank you for the video. Have to try them next time there. Prior to our Okinawa trip to Naha in April we watched your Okinawa vids. Our hotel was within walking distance to Nuchigafu Restaurant you highlighted and of course I had to have the Sea Grapes dish you had. It was wonderful as was the whole experience at Nuchigafu. Thank you for that one too. Lately every time we go to Wakiki we stop at Tropical Tribe on Ala Moana for an Acai Bowl. They're Brazilian and the Acai is just like being back in Rio again 🙂

I absolutely love the Hula dog. I've been eating them since they had a shop in the original International Market and they were called Puka dog. When the couple split he moved to Kauai and kept the original name. She stayed on O'ahu and changed the name but she got to keep the yummy bacon taro bun because it was her recipe and my favorite. 😊 I am so happy that you tried them.

@TabiEats I got the story straight from her when she had a food truck in Haleiwa. I much prefer hers because they are the original recipe. His store is in the Poipu Beach area on Kauai but his buns are just plain bread.

He has had a face lift or something. I have thought the same over the last couple of videos. His face looks really puffy around the cheeks and eyes. Far from making him look younger I think its having the reverse effect. Making him look older now.

@@maliamarsh02 most everyone is great! You get a couple here and there that might try and charge more for tourists, but it’s rare. Also there are some that are a bit skittish and don’t trust Americans, specifically…but they’re far and few in between. And don’t go to the club district because you will get scammed out of a lot of money. If you want to enjoy an adult beverage and some food, go to an Izakaya.
I don’t think they’re any more distrusting or scammy than any other country when it comes to tourists, but they are more polite about it. 😂
Oh! Almost forgot….quite a few of the smaller restaurants and other eateries as well as Izakayas have an English menu and a Japanese menu….often the English menu shows higher prices. So, try to stick to restaurants that have combined menus and places that show the prices right up front and have a great time!! ✌🏻🥰😊

Wait a sec, I've eaten at a place called Hula Dog before, and they also had an option for taro bread, but it was in California. I wonder if that was another branch of the same business or just a place with the same name.
Hula dog, the location on Kuhio Ave is temporarily closed. The other location in Waikiki is permanently closed.

I've honestly never really wanted to go to Hawaii, although as a native Californian, most people I know have been there. I'm not a sunny weather beach person, I prefer foresty overcast. But your videos are making me think twice.
It's not as sunny as you think, lots of overcast. Try the big island.
