New Balance has always made hybrid walking/running shoes with their daily trainers. It's nice to see that they are pushing their running shoes towards more of a running focus with energy return instead of super plush and offering softer foam in more shoes designed for walking.
I loved the nb4 but I won't be buying the 5 as it's too soft for me. The level of hate you get on some sites for saying that shows that asics have their blindingly loyal fans. I currently use both the nb4 and ride 15 for daily runs and I'll be buying either the ride 17 or 18 next, I'm waiting for the review on here but thinking the 18 initially as its significantly lighter than the 17.
I have worn my 1080v14 for over 200km and I'm quite fond of it. The upper material cradles my foot nicely, providing a comfortable feel. While I haven't tested the NB5 yet, I lean towards the color, design, and details of the 1080v14 over the NB5. Moreover, if the 1080v14 fits my foot snugly, the NB5 may be too spacious for me.
@iCuteJP I had an early version of the 1080, I think v4 or v5, and they were true all rounders that would do everything, including fast runs. That is a rare thing with most shoes these days.
Don't go half a size up just get the wide fit if you have an issue. Surely the wider fit sizes are available in the UK? New Balance is very good with wider fit options.
How's the 1080v14 vs SC Trainer V3? The sc trainer is currently 199e and 1080 v14 is 150 euros. I tried the sc trainer v3 some time ago, felt good, but i was on the fence with the fit. I was afraid that my standard size is slightly small so sent it back. Now i'm thinking if I should get 1/2 size up or get the 1080v14 as a universal shoe (i only run 10-15k and max. 4:45/km pace). Thanks.
My impression is that the NB Fresh Foams have a reputation for collapsing at a lower mileage than many other shoes. Do you think this new firmer foam version is likely to last longer?
I wish Asics would figure out what kind of shoe they want the Novablast to be. And I wish they'd improve the rubber on the Novablasts, don't know why they can't use the rubber they use on the Superblast 2 or on the Nimbus 26.
It's quite apparent. Asics is telling you that if you want a better outsole, you need to pay more. They want you to buy the more expensive shoes so they can make more money. If they raise the price of the Novablast, then they will offer you a better rubber. The Novablast 5 already has better and newer foam than the Nimbus 27, but they can't give you everything at that price.
@iCuteJP good points capitalism ftw, although while ffblast max is a *newer* foam, the question of whether it's better than ffblast+ eco is a matter of debate. A lot of people who like Novablast 4 and the Superblasts find it so mushy as to make the shoe less versatile.

One of the things that annoys me about the NB range is that you can't tell from what they call the foam what kind of ride it delivers.
Agreed, seems like quite a few brands across the shoe industry change foam but call it same thing….

NB4 was so much better. The 5 feels really soggy and energy sapping, especially at slower pace
@@MrFrescocotone NB4 is a very good shoe. It was my favorite until I got Superblasts.
