Current Wharton junior here-I decided to hop on UA-cam instead of studying for my ACCT 102 exam and came across this. I loved hearing your experiences as an undergrad, and it makes me look forward to reflecting on how much I've grown throughout these four years. I strongly resonate with what you said about moving from the west to east coast. I'm from Arizona, and I understand not being able to see family as much as kids from PA or NJ do. Also, thank you for the class recommendations! I'm planning on taking Negotiations in the fall! I'm happy I came across your video and will continue to follow your channel! Really appreciate the open minded review, while remaining honest to yourself. It feels that nowadays everyone just loves to bash private universities for their high cost with little value for some reason. For sure, university in the U.S. is overpriced in some part and much can be learned online, but being part of a community for several years and building relationships with like-minded people is really valuable. Let alone, the extra motivation you get from working on projects together in contrast to do online courses in front of your laptop. It is just different. Nonetheless,, it is DEFINITELY NOT for everyone and I know many friends who cannot stand the academic nature of class and rather be more practical about their work (although you sometimes just really need to learn stuff instead of trial and error every little thing). Great video!!!
For every Graham (successful UA-camr or social influencer) there are millions that don't make the same millions that Graham does, no matter how hard one works. Their work ethic is unparalleled especially Meet Kevin's, but I'd still say at least 30% of their success can be attributed to luck. Most people aren't as lucky, and college is a great alternative. Tuition is a scam, but the expensive piece of paper we call a degree is worth it because of the experiences along the way.
Definitely agree that everyone has different life circumstances that can help them determine if getting a degree is worth it to them. I don't like the attitude a lot of make money online gurus have against college, but college definetely is necessary to be successful.
Couldn't agree more! Yeah I definitely disagree with the automatic anti-college attitude, even though I recognize that college isn't the answer for everyone
@@TaylorBellyeah but college gives you an edge in company or to get a better salary. that matters a lot if the college holds a good ranking in all over the world..
Loved the video Taylor! It was interesting to hear about UPenn because my cousin went their for his bachelors and masters in Architecture. Totally agree though, that higher education is definitely dependent on preference of the person. The older I get the more I realize that learning a trade is just as valuable as I have so many successful friends that didn't go to college. I would love to hear more about your experiences there :)
Thank u so much Lindsay!! How cool, I didn’t know you had a cousin that went to Penn also! And yup for sure, it really varies person to person and profession to profession, couldn’t agree more 😊
I hope you can talk about your experience and tips for applying. Penn is my dream university and especially Wharton that will be so helpful. Thank you for this great video ❤
When I was younger, my goal was to go to U of M or Stanford business schools. I got rejected from U of M, never applied to Stanford because of costs, and ended up at WMU (“waste-rn” we called it). My last year I studied at UCT in Cape Town. Their business school was awesome btw. Anyway, I was one of only a handful of non-ivy league international students at UCT. I got to become friends with a ton of them. What’s the main difference between these students and students at normal State universities? Two things: 1) Their vocabulary was enriched. They spoke with big sounding words. 2) They often postured, thinking highly of themselves. Meaning, they believed in themselves more. Why? Maybe it was based on some external validation by a brand, like Harvard or Princeton or Yale or Middlebury. They took that external validation and tried to integrate it into their identities. Were either of these helpful? The first is only helpful for increasing efficiency IF others know the big words too. Otherwise it decreases efficiency if they don’t know the words and often results in organizations where the culture doesn’t provide a safe place for people to say dumb things, make mistakes publicly with their co-workers and then improve. So mostly big words were unhelpful in the real world. The second thing was helpful for some people. Because if they believe they can learn to add value, then they are more likely to do so compared to someone who doesn’t believe they can add value. It’s a self proclaiming prophecy - both people are right. However, for others, I noticed it was a sticky point. Their self belief turned into a ego - a downward spiral. They focused too much on “self” and their brand and imagine. Not enough on becoming curious about specific problems, improving them and adding real value to an organization or market. So I would say the second advantage was slightly helpful, but only for those with a strong enough curiosity around improving problems and adding value. It was interesting because I was a tech founder at that time, running a brand that was widely known around the world. So the ivy students did tend to treat me differently than they treated the handful of other non-ivy league international students at UCT. The convo with me quickly went from “what school do you attend,” (posturing) to more about the dotcom and wanting to learn from real life scaling of the business. For that I am grateful because it gave me a far greater in-depth access to these ivy league pillars in the clouds. :) :)
I'm a junior in high school and I'm so nervous about everything, I just wish i would've done more so that I could apply to an ivy league but admissions in top universities feel even harder because there aren't as many extracurriculars available and more people are applying. It would be super helpful if you make a video talking about how you got in, and maybe share your stats if you can
I feel ya girl, I imagine it's really tough to apply to colleges right now. My next video goes over alll of this, hopefully it should be helpful even though things are a bit different with covid at the moment. Coming out in a few days 😊 But keep your head up-- you got this! It's stressful in the moment but very rewarding when you're done 🎉
Glad to hear that you enjoyed your college experience, and it seems like it set you up well for the future. I’m a junior at Penn State and would’ve loved to go to UPenn! For those who can't go to amazing schools like yours (admissions-wise or financially), I think flagship public universities can definitely be a great option. Keep up the good work!
For those of you who are not US citizens or permanent residents, remember UPenn's financial aid policy is only need-blind for US citizens or PRs. The financial aid for the international students is not need-blind and your financial aid requests will be also considered (need-aware) into the admission decision.
I work in Executive Education at Wharton and the businesses that recruit Wharton Grads are unparalleled. They are literally the pick of the litter and you will typically find Wharton Grads at the C level in every major corporation throughout the world along with Stanford, Yale and Harvard. There are many other great schools with those same claims but from a numbers standpoint they are typically head and shoulders above the rest. On a side note, Stanford Grads are leading the way in start up’s in Silicon Valley and Harvard grads are starting their own businesses as opposed to working for others

Fantastic video, Taylor! Once again, congrats on graduating! If I got it correctly, you had a full-time job secured 8 months before you graduated. That's great!
Without even knowing you graduated from Wharton, after watching a few of your YT videos (and I am catching up on all - can’t wait!) you are very articulate, independent, focused, and have an amazing head on your shoulders! 😉👍😉
I don't know if you could, but, id love for you to have someone over who's a Wharton MBA grad talk about the school for graduate education and about how it compares with its competition. Great video, looking forward to more of those. Love from India
I've heard a lot about Wharton but I don't know if I would want to ever live in Philly. The worst is when people say Californians are "Cali peeps" *cringe city*
Editing on point, you got it down. Meet anyone from Deloitte there? I got a few colleagues that were sponsored to go there- I’ve only heard great things
I rank schools by alumni economic outcomes. My favorite is to view the portion still in student loan debt plus the portion of those in default. Then I sprinkle on top of that, which alumni are more likely to receive VC dollars. I created an algorithm to account for these and other alumni economic variables. UPenn is up there definitely. Congratulations to you.❤
Crazy how expensive university is in the US. I'm studying Medicine in Spain, and it is costing me about 1000€ ayear for the tuition. Would need to add a few zeroes if it were in the US
Thank you, Taylor, for being so open with your life. I don't even know you personally, but you are more honest than people that we have known for years. Kudos to that. You're beautiful, smart, funny, sarcastic in a good way, and I have just come across your channel as of yesterday, but again, I seem to know more about you than many other people. I look forward to checking out your other cool videos. In conclusion, you are perfect! 😊
Yay loved this video Taylor! I think there are so many valuable lessons to be learned in college/university for sure 🤗 the system as a business is what hurts so many people...the tuition is outrageous and it only keeps growing every year. Hypothetically if someone had to get student loans for the entire $79k a year (which I would say the majority of students have to take out a substantial amount in loans), that’s $316k for four years and then it starts building interest once you graduate. If someone made $100k a year right out of college, after taxes and living expenses, at best and if they’re steadfast, they may be able to pay off $40k-$50k a year off their student loan debt a year, so they would be able to pay off their loans maybe after 8-10 years to include the interest accrual 😬😬😬 So I think that’s a big factor in people asking if it’s “worth it.” But at the same time you would probably have the same type of ratio with a public university in terms of average income and student loan debt. Unfortunately nowadays you have to have a piece of paper from a credible institution even if you could potentially learn it all online. I do think hands on learning should be required for all degrees though, like as apart of the curriculum. That’s a change I would like to see. Anywho, Its just a big business (college/university in general) 😬 I am a HUGE advocate for life-long learning and continually learning new things/topics and I learned a ton when getting my undergrad and grad degree (for the major and for life in general) I just wish the system wasn’t structured the way it is and I wish people didn’t have to go into ridiculous amounts of debt 😖 just my two cents on the matter! LOL
Thank you so much Brittani!! And tell me about it, that really is a scary scenario. Luckily Penn specifically offers pretty good financial aid to those who need it-- "only" 27% of students take out loans on top of their financial aid packages. BUT I know that's not the case at all schools. I couldn't agree more that tuition, especially at private universities, is truly outrageous. The fact that its such a business when it's something people by and large "have" to do (i.e, check the box that they got a college degree when applying to most jobs) makes me sick. The same goes for the college board-- having to PAY college board to send my SAT scores and subject test scores when I was applying was laughable. Even though college board covers that cost for people who truly need it, it's not an expense people should have to pay in the first place (similar to a large portion of that $79k asking price lol). Anyway, I could also rant about this for hours 😂but I agree with you
Damn, that stuff is expensive in the US. I have a bachelors degree from the university of Bern in Switzerland. Tuition was $1700 per semester. Yes, one thousand seven hundred.
Yess it's CRAZY expensive. That sounds like a pretty good rate to me ahah and then I have friends on the other hand who went to the most expensive boarding school in the world (Le Rosey in Switzerland) 😂
@@TaylorBell This might be a huge coincidence but I grew up in the Bernese Alps. I used to work as a snowboard instructor as a side hustle. I was one of the snowboard instructors hired by LeRosey for the Schoenried winter campus. The kids (parents) seemed well off but they were very respectful and kind.
Ahaha that’s too funny, what a coincidence. That’s one of the coolest side hustles I’ve ever heard of lol and Yep same with the people I know who went there- super kind and respectful. I would be happy to have grown up in the alps 😍
@@mr.j3371, go to Germany. Public universities don't have tuition. Just fees. You'll typically only pay a few hundred euros, but that goes towards certain things including your student public transportation pass(es)
I don't personally think college is necessary in order to be successful but I do believe it can help lay foundation for so many career paths especially the ones we've chosen. However, "life" is still the ultimate university. It will help define your goals and boundaries and ultimately set you on your path. Yeah that was kind of preachy but I do believe it. Hope to see future videos showing how closely the lessons you learned in school line up with your real life experiences in the work force!🤓🤓🤓
I’m a soon to be graduated aerospace engineering undergrad, headed to UCLA for my graduate degree in aerospace this fall. While I probably have much more to learn, I agree 100% with Elon that we have way too many business majors and not enough engineers! Lol. A business is all about inventing products that makes people’s lives better, and innovations-made possible by science and engineering-are what make that possible, not the actual business aspect lol. Tesla wouldn’t matter, for example, if the car itself didn’t work at all. It wouldn’t matter how “efficiently” the business side of things were running. But if the car worked and the business/marketing side was slacking a bit, it wouldn’t be as big as a deal since the product would work! We need more people out there inventing stuff, not managing stuff! Lol.
Hi Taylor! I am currently a junior who is very interested in business, particularly either finance or management consulting. As you can probably guess, Wharton is definitely #1 on my list. I was wondering if you could please release a high school stats and extracurriculars video soon? I am preparing for the college admissions process, and I would love to try and see where I stand against my competition! Also, do you have a personal email that I could use to reach out to you with any additional questions? I don't have social media or anything like that, so it would be great if we could communicate over email! Thank you so much! :)
Thank you for your perspective and experience. I am paying £9250 for University in the UK, getting online classes and the worst part is that I am not even attending them. Too busy making that internet money! 🤮
College isn't for everyone and it depends what you want to do. That being said, I wish I went to a more prestigious school. I graduated the University of Rochester back in 2004. It was a good private university but it doesn't have the alumni network or name recognition like Wharton. Getting your foot in the door puts you way ahead of most college graduates.
So cool that you got to spend 4 years in Philadelphia! I agree that making connections can be really important! Did you have any favorite activities with your friends? Or any extra-curricular sports/hobbies!? Congrats on successfully graduating from an Ivy League Business program!
Yess and I loved it 😊 Ah man my fave activities were definitely exploring Philly (SO many fun hole in the wall places, bars, restaurants, etc) but otherwise I really just enjoyed the social scene overall :) And YES my fave extracurricular was a program I was in called Wharton leadership ventures-- It's how I got to go to Antarctica and some other seriously cool places. I was also part of the student government for the Huntsman Program 😊 And thank you soo much Nathan! I appreciate it!

Soooo, you're awesome! I am most likely not the only one to point this out but at 3:41 you actually showed a picture of Bernie Sanders where I think you meant to picture Warren Buffett! Which I got a good laugh out of so thank you for that! You had the right photo the first time however! :)
Don't worry. I chuckled at the Bernie joke. Kenzo here living in the burbs now. How far out of university and center city did you get to travel? Huge fan of locust walk, which is how I found the channel. The wife likes to draw the buildings along it but we haven't been by since rona started :(
I’ve seen in your list of undergrad subjects - Astronomy …. hmm, what?? What is astronomy got to do with business education? hope it is a typographical error or otherwise… hey, I’m new to your channel and enjoying back-reading your vids, and i can say they were well-prepared and professionally edited - hurray for that! We are on the same line of work - consulting, which made your channel quite interesting … Thanks for sharing - #StaySafe
Hey you seem a natural at UA-cam considering you just started 6 months ago. Great video, Wharton seems very cool, I love econ and business, if I were American I’d aim for that uni. Just want to know what editing software do you use? Your edits are getting better and I’m trying to up my game lol, iMovie isn’t cutting it. Also you’ve gained a subscriber :)
Thank you so much Jonny!! I’ve really been enjoying it :) and I use Final Cut Pro X! I used iMovie up until my $110/hour video- that’s the vid when I switched over to fcp. Was a really smooth transition too, it’s quite similar to iMovie but with more functionality. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!! I appreciate it :)
Great video! Would love if you had a video on your course load, the credit units or however that works and how much work each course or overall it took!
I had a friend who went to an Ivy League school. We called him the Nard Dog. When he was in college he used to get wicked hammered. His nickname was puke. He would chug a fifth of soco, sneak into a frat party, polish off a few people's empties, some brewskies, some Jell-O shots, do some body shots off himself, pass out, wake up the next morning, boot, rally, more soco, head to class. Probably would have gotten expelled if he had let it affect his grades, but he aced all his courses. They called him Ace. It was totally awesome. Got straight B's. They called him Buzz.
I love what you were doing with your hair in that last section. Don’t know if it was intentional or not, but I’m gonna guess it was. And it was really cool 😂👌

Thanks Taylor for the video. From philosophy to neuroscience to linguistics I’m devoting to business now. Did you notice at “warren buffet” the picture is Bernie Sanders?
That was helpful💕 I'm an international student in grade 9. can you make more videos about Wharton school and how to get accepted in it and about the extracurriculars we should do to be more competitive with other applicants
Weird enough, I don't really address my school by the department/"blanket college", but I noticed a ton of people do haha, so I'm in the minority there lol I usually say I'm here at UCSD for Computer Science rather than saying that I'm here at Jacobs School of Engineering for CS And for people who knockdown on "prestigious schools" due to cost; It is not particularly for the quality of the education, but the connections and amount of companies who will specifically recruit from specific schools
HA that's interesting, I never thought about that! I usually just say I went to Penn to keep it easy, but definitely said Wharton a million times in this video just to be more specific 😂 Comp sci at UCSD is sickkk 👌And I couldn't have said it better myself, it's allll about network and having a "head start" with those companies. Way more so than the class material I learned ahah
Can you please make the video about what you did in high school, I’m a freshman and I’m really interested in economics and I am trying to figure out what classes I can take relating to economics to help me stand out to colleges. I love the vid!
Great video! Whilst I was in high school, back in 1982, I tried to think, but nothing happened! So, I joined the Marines, and got yelled at for my country!LOL!
Such an informative video! Great Job! 🥳 I'm from Germany and not interested in studying business but I like to learn more about college and (college) life in America in general.
You don't need Business School just prepare for CFA and FRM exams, and after you got them, you can go to consulting, financial analyst, banks ...=) You would rather get some mathematical education for 4 yers it will give you a foundation on which you can build whatever you want
I truly believe that in today's job marketplace, unless you want to climb the corporate ladder, education, degrees and extra qualifications are a must. Now if on the other hand, you want to be your own boss, with the power of the internet and infinite knowledge available you can truly learn and succeed all by yourself, although having a baseline above average IQ is necessary when going this route.
I have a bachelor in economics and a masters degree in investment analysis and do absolutely nothing with my education as i started my own marketing company which was my side hustle in university period. At university I was a national board member of a political youth organization and also at my university a board member of the umbrella organization of all student organizations at the university etc. All with the goal to become either a politician or an investment banker (as also talking with Lehman brothers) and than when I graduated from university the credit crisis erupted...and at the same time i realized how dirty politics was as i did basically the same to achieve my goals. I was with Christian political youths and always loved making deals with the socialists and anarchists in debates (so make deals you only target the others and make each other look good as we both had a different target demographic) I basically realized needed to chase my passion as i also realized i hated secondary school and university as i also did it as it was expected. Looking back i should have never gone to university as i just did what my side hustle was before university, actually started the marketing when i was 17....
Wharton undergraduate income - 100,000... Time 4 years, cost 320,000 (full sticker price) to zero, plus time lost studying for exams that could be generating income. Journeyman plumber, electrician, hvac income -licensed, insured, self-employed - 100,000 to 250,000. Get paid while you learn 100% of the time (35,000-50,000) a year. I'd also add that other trades are similar in pay (elevators, welders, roofers, masonry, ect)... It takes 4 years though to become a journeyman in most states.
@@sterlingmarshel6299 It depends - yes many are. Many are not though. It also depends on what the student actually paid. Many ivy league students get scholarships/grants.

yooooo why did you put the bernie pic in their for warren buffett lolol. one of my good friends from high school is a freshman at wharton. impressive to get in there for sure. it kinda annoys me how rigorous the admissions process is for ivy leagues because it encourages people to be involved in random things in high school just for the sake of it (not saying you did that but a lot of people I knew in high school did extracurrics that they hated but did them just to get into colleges).
HAHA you're the first to comment on it 🤫 And yeah it definitely is an incredibly competitive process. It's good there are other factors colleges take into consideration beyond resume-padding things, but it can never be a perfect process ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ugh I hear ya. Penn tuition is growing quite a bit faster than the rate of inflation. It's ridiculous :(

Couldn’t agree more!! Thank you so much😊
For every Graham (successful UA-camr or social influencer) there are millions that don't make the same millions that Graham does, no matter how hard one works.
And yup for sure, it really varies person to person and profession to profession, couldn’t agree more 😊
You know the girl legit went into Wharton when she marked the first part of the video as Intro&Agenda.

Hey
Did you get in?
Glad to hear that you enjoyed your college experience, and it seems like it set you up well for the future. I’m a junior at Penn State and would’ve loved to go to UPenn! For those who can't go to amazing schools like yours (admissions-wise or financially), I think flagship public universities can definitely be a great option. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much Nick!! And yess totally agree. Great network, name recognition, etc 😊 best of luck finishing up your junior and senior years!
I have a huge dilemma so basically i earned the full ride presidential scholarship to my flagship state school. It is worth so much money.

Thank you sooo much ahah I spent a long time on this one :) And YES lots of friends who work for Deloitte. They seem to like it a lot
Would need to add a few zeroes if it were in the US
Yess it is crazy expensive. When I studied in Spain, it hurt to know I was still paying Penn tuition while I was there lol

Going into my second semester of Wharton right now. The food on campus could be better, but I met so many cool people here, it’s insane lmao.
Aw yay that makes me happy, that’s exactly how I felt. Both about the food and the people lol
Anyway, I could also rant about this for hours 😂but I agree with you
Definitely appreciate you making this video, it's always nice to know these things form someone who ha sbeen through it!
Thank you so much Kajal, happy to!! 😊
Whoa! I should study in Switzerland...
Thanks so much Lou and I totally agree!! Thanks for this wisdom 🤓

Lol.
Telsa would be nothing without business people managing the company, venture capital firms, and firms like GS, et al financing engineers' dreams --

I heard he graduated from anger management the same way he graduated from Cornell: On Time

Thanks so much Ayat!! And YES my next video covers allll that good stuff 😊 Coming in a few days!
Weird enough, I don't really address my school by the department/"blanket college", but I noticed a ton of people do haha, so I'm in the minority there lol
I usually say I'm here at UCSD for Computer Science rather than saying that I'm here at Jacobs School of Engineering for CS
And for people who knockdown on "prestigious schools" due to cost; It is not particularly for the quality of the education, but the connections and amount of companies who will specifically recruit from specific schools

Nice, I’ll prob say it in my next video too
I truly believe that in today's job marketplace, unless you want to climb the corporate ladder, education, degrees and extra qualifications are a must.
Ngl, I used to always confuse UPenn with Penn state.
Hahaha that’s super common

Wharton undergraduate income - 100,000... Time 4 years, cost 320,000 (full sticker price) to zero, plus time lost studying for exams that could be generating income. Journeyman plumber, electrician, hvac income -licensed, insured, self-employed - 100,000 to 250,000. Get paid while you learn 100% of the time (35,000-50,000) a year. I'd also add that other trades are similar in pay (elevators, welders, roofers, masonry, ect)... It takes 4 years though to become a journeyman in most states.
I would guess Wharton graduates are more financially successful than any welder, roofer
@@sterlingmarshel6299 It depends - yes many are. Many are not though. It also depends on what the student actually paid. Many ivy league students get scholarships/grants.
If I would have put my tuition money in Bitcoin in 2015 when I first started investing in it... I would have 75 million in the bank. Now i have a worthless piece of paper. Anyways, internships are the way to go.
ahah if only we all did that 😂And I highly doubt it's worthless! ahah yep agreed, the internships were super valuable 👌
Been buying since $110. Didn’t need a Wharton degree to know that the nakamoto consensus algorithm was a work of pure art.
@@TaylorBell Why do you keep deleting my comment asking this girl if her BTC address is a rather famous one that’s been involved since 2010. It seems it is (shares the same nameCoin handle)
Do you not know what an address on the block chain is? Lol Wharton really didn’t do much for you huh?
Comments like yours usually get marked as spam. Haven’t deleted anything, calm yourself lol
@@TaylorBell Mine was marked as spam too. Literally can’t even reply. You know you have a BTC celebrity just casually hanging out in your comments and people can’t even reply to them?
yooooo why did you put the bernie pic in their for warren buffett lolol. one of my good friends from high school is a freshman at wharton. impressive to get in there for sure. it kinda annoys me how rigorous the admissions process is for ivy leagues because it encourages people to be involved in random things in high school just for the sake of it (not saying you did that but a lot of people I knew in high school did extracurrics that they hated but did them just to get into colleges).
HAHA you're the first to comment on it 🤫 And yeah it definitely is an incredibly competitive process. It's good there are other factors colleges take into consideration beyond resume-padding things, but it can never be a perfect process ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I just assumed you would say it wasn't worth it 🥴 So it was interesting to hear your perspective
Ahah nooo it was very worth it in my opinion. Much more so for the network/connections rather than the actual knowledge 😊 but I of course see both sides to it!
Great video Taylor!
Thank you so much! 😊
