I like the idea of wrapping a smaller gauge copper wire around the tip of the iron. The was a great tip! (no pun intended) I stated out with through hole components, but quickly realized everything was going to SMDs. So now I am saving up money to get a microscope.
Thanks truly! I thought about this, but my ideas tend to 'bomb'. Your info will get me to try. ~ Now, if I could just see. = ) Hate it not being able to see anymore; Maybe, No, > That's why I'm so -frustrated- -bothered- Angry now. =p
Question: How do you get the wire hot enough to melt the solder without burning up the wire itself? I'm dealing with turntable phono cartridge wire and the wire melts faster than the solder.
I swear I started watching this saying...I wont learn anything and the first thing you do is Genius.. wrapping the small wire to make a tiny tip...PURE GENIUS...I just did a mind cartwheel I'm so happy!!!... Thank you
Brilliant, and gives me confidence to replace battery in my Garmin 910XT sports watch. The battery has three wires red, black and green. Is there any chance of damaging the battery by the sequence (rgb gbr brg ) of soldering? I worry because the new battery may be partially charged, the Iron is earthed, and the watch circuitry has no visible internal Isolation Switch (all the on/off/etc functions are via the micro chip circuitry).
Life saver....had to de-solder a pro micro, and had solder stuck in the holes and the smallest iron tip I had wouldn't go all the way through. Thx for this vid!
The copper wire's a great tip, thanks for sharing, your comment about better eyesight when you're young reminded me of the time we used to work on miniature devices so small everything had to be done on the screen through the microscope.
i cant wait to try this! i have a loose micro USB port on an elite xbox controller and the contacts are like 2mm wide 1mm apart and i have an old xbox 360 usb cord i want to install permanently and this is likely the only way i could use my current soldering iron with 1 style of basic large tip micro usb has 5 connections 5 volt, data +, data -, ID mode detect, and Ground. but the USB cable i have from an xbox 360 controller only has4 connections and the 360 controller wired controller has no 5th connection as ID for USB connection. can anyone tell me if the new xbox one controller really uses the 4th pin micro usb ID connection?? i doubt it as that conection seems to be for usb memory drives communicating with devices but i also happen to know new xbox one controller receive firmware updates and the old 360 wired controllers did not can nayone tell me the significance of the 4 pin ID / mode selcet connection for new xbox one controllers? cna i get away with just soldering a full size USB in place of the micro USB without the micro usb's 4th pin ID?
I gather that this was a demonstrative video for micro soldering in general. Good idea coiling the coper wire. However, in this particular example, since you are soldering in the corner of the pcb, you could actually use a soldering iron with a normal tip to do the job. Cheers.
Nice idea will try. Next time you produce a video would you please find a way to hang the mike so we will not hear you banging around while recording : - )))
Doesn't apply to my problem directly, but still answered my question, therefore, solving my problem! Left with a better education than I came for, which one can only get from a real ninja 🥷. I could've stopped early, but instead stayed for your quality presentation!!! Thank you mate! From America!!!
Brilliant on all counts. Answered all my questions. Worked a treat. Thanks.

You got some steady hands
Wonderful method!
Thanks man, your idea saved me wasting $100 for an smd solder station :)
Very helpful video thank you
Wow this seems like a great idea, glad I clicked on this video :)
Fkng outstanding!👏👏👏👍👍👍
Iron wire is also usefull or not?

Not sure on thyat wire - I was using solid copper wire.
@@cubefpvSame here. Stranded copper. Very small.
thanks g bolt! lit vid my sussy man
at last no more soldering everything together making it worse, great tip.
I want to male. My wireless headphone so need to buy this one.... Always repaired headphones never bought 😅
Use Kapton tape to avoid ESD issues.
hi there one question whats the name of the mini telescope that you using on this video? thanks
SuperDJJ1
its a SuperEyes VGA pen microscope. you can buy them on eBay.
No pun intended but ... great tip.
bro
You sound like Korg from Thor: Ragnarok and it makes me very happy.
Thanks. I want also
Another day another Doug. 😂

5 years later and still saving lives. Thanks mate.
Still going too hehe :) - need to figure out what microscope to get now.
7 Years later and still saving lives.Thanks.

That trick was invaluable. Was thinking I had to buy a new micro solder tip for just one job. Nope. Thanks. How this isn't widely known is beyond me.
Life saver....had to de-solder a pro micro, and had solder stuck in the holes and the smallest iron tip I had wouldn't go all the way through. Thx for this vid!
That is actually incredibly useful and helpful. Thank you. I’ll be using that.
what size is the copper wire
need to solder wires on eemprom chips and currently struggling
The copper wire's a great tip, thanks for sharing, your comment about better eyesight when you're young reminded me of the time we used to work on miniature devices so small everything had to be done on the screen through the microscope.
Ingenious exactly what need too do to solder tiny wire to smart watch. thank so much. Now if my hand can stay stead enough I can do it.
Tip is proper, but damn thats an ugly looking connection. Get it down properly mate
Simple and brilliant solution to making a finer tip. Something I hadn't thought of and can attempt my fix now. Thanks
Sawl-der, I'm not a Brit, so it stands out...cheers!
Put some flux, so you won't get cold soldering
did you use flux welding wire? its made out of copper and has a fine pitch usually.
Good video! Thanks for keeping it simple!
How long does the metal take to harden? Like do I have to hold the wire in place?
It is just the same as soldering with an iron - it hardens as soon as the heat is removed.
Thanks for this video. Just fixed a small MP3 player headphone jack using this idea.
Good tip on micro soldering. Thank you for sharing.
Very COoL. Thank you
That's fking brilliant
broooo ultimaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate

good video, thanks
nooo the joint looks cold
Thank You

bro well done, you saved me from wasting money on smaller soldering tool🥰
Thanks
Thanks for the gems! Wrapping the Iron Tip and the Silicone wire wrap that doesn't burn/crumble. Perfect!
8 yrs later and its going to change my life thank you hats off
I have just tried the hack after watching this video and got success. Thanks for your great idea.
Thanks bud I just need one of those micro scope things
Never woudlve thought about wrapping the tip with wire. Will try it.
Can show me u r camera please
The camera is a pen microscope camers with 640 x 480 resolution
This is genus. Exactly what I was looking for.
great advice, but I didn't take note when you said make sure it's not switched on, and now I am typing with my pinkies
Which type of wire round on tip sir ? Can you tell me
What's wire rounding?
thanks, i've learned a lot from this vid
Good Idea. Thanks you.
Great advise, thanks for sharing.
Will it work with a copper wire?
Great Video. Thanks man!
good idea but u just a solder
mot the good solder
wow, I would have to somehow reverse the image on microscope.
Thanks a lot for posting this
sir what is the solder station that you are using
Any suggestion for single core gauge?
excellent job man
Well done thank you 👍
GENIUS!
What do you call that gum like thing you stick at the back of the chip?
It's BluTack - the sort of thing you use to stick posters to the wall.
Genius
What a great idea! Simple and effective.
Lots of great information! Thanks!
Thanks have been battling to solder a chip to a camera lens fantastic help.
