Sounds like the frequency response of the old NT1 is a bit more "bumpy" in the highs, too. Some Nasal resonances get overly boosted, making your voice sound a bit more aggressive and nasal. Slight differences, though. Much prefer the new one.
While both are bright, the sibilance sounds nastier on the older mic. It actually sounds like - if you could zoom right in on those frequencies- there are a whole lot of peaks and troughs in the sibilance itself, or at least one major trough
Thank you so much for this video! Just what I was after! Is there any chance you might know what the differences are, if any, in 1) off-axis rejection and 2) the proximity effect between these two microphones? I ask because I really prefer my vintage NT1 over the new versions and want to have a backup should anything happen to it.
Danke!
I honestly never even knew Rode was that old lol.
Got a little sad when I realized something from the 90s is "vintage".
Also, HUGE difference between the two. But I also noticed how quickly my ears/brain adjusted to the new sound each time. By the second or third sentence each one just became normal.
For information, the Beyerdynamic M90 Pro X on France Amazon dropped from 238€ to 179€ with taxes ($193).
WHEW the NT1 one is so bright and harsh. I have a late 90's NT1a and it is super bright too. The newer Rode mics seem to have a lot better, more even capsules.
The "vintage" NT1 sounds harsher, higher. I prefer the newer NT1a.
Shouldn't it be the nt1 5 gen versus original nt1?
No. Someone asked me about the differences between these two mics and I didn’t have the answer or knowledge so I made this video.
Rode’s naming department discovered crack cocaine in the early 2000s and never looked back.
