“Gesu Bambino” (Baby Jesus) is the best-known song of Pietro Yon, whose long and distinguished career included appointments as Titular Organist at the Vatican and Music Director of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Originally composed to an Italian text, Frederick Martens wrote the English words. This song is notable for its quoting Adeste Fideles (O Come, All Ye Faithful) in its refrains as it tells the Christmas story.
