    This tutorial for creating texture using a flat iron is going to help me educate my clients on how to use a tool they may already have, but never got these kinds of results. Being fresh in this industry I appreciate all the Sam Villa education I have been able to utilize behind the chair in the Salon. From fringe and face framing fine hair to quick twist cutting techniques... you have made me a better hairdresser producing better results in a matter of weeks! Keep the education coming! I love everyone working for us at Sam Villa!

Tho, I have a vintage style, and have learn it from the best, even using the same clips (my grandma's) Some techniques just don't make the style looks eutectic enough for me. But it was a useful video, so I'll remember it til the nex time I'm styling my friends :)

    I'm no professional, but I watch your channel to learn about hair styles. I love the idea about using the hair straightener as a curling iron. After curling your hair with a straightener, can you go in and use hair spray to hold the hair in place? If so, what's a good hair spray for super thick hair?

    Can you show us how to use a 1-1/2" round curling iron on long hair to produce long curls without creating a lot of volume? Voluminous hair is not flattering on my smaller frame.
    Also, I don't have a lot of time to get ready, so I need to use heat to tame my naturally thick and curly hair into something more sleek and pretty. I will post a pic of my hair just after it was done at the salon on Instagram. (For reference). I just can't seem to master the technique. Thank you! (Instagram name= "minibux")

    I love your techniques and methods of using the flat iron. I respect and love a lot of Sam's message in this tutorial but there's one area that I disagree with and that's creating curls. As an educator one of the areas that I found to be lacking in our industry is the proper use of a standard curling iron, " click, rotate and control ". Even though it produces a vintage result I see young hair artist trying to produce base curls with a flat iron, it doesn't work and a shame that there interest is relied on a flat iron and not curling irons. Flat irons are good but let's not loose the fundamentals of true artistry.

    • @samvillahair
      @samvillahair  8 років тому +11

      +David Campbell Thanks for the comment, David. I agree that fundamentals when it comes to all hot tools, including the curling iron, are necessary. Respect the craft is what I like to say. I also believe that we must use different tools to achieve different results. Not one tool can create the same look and it's important for us as artists to experiment and try new ways. I've discovered that through my trials I have stumbled upon awesome ways to achieve a finished look that wasn't possible another way. So, respect the fundamentals but also push the boundaries and break the rules to come across new ways of doing things. All the best my friend.

    • @davidcampbell6765
      @davidcampbell6765 8 років тому +4

      Thank you Sam for your response. I do appreciate that and always look for new ways. I'm always a defender of fundamentals and how important they made my life in hair designing. I always enjoy your ideas suggestions.
      you always inspire me!!!!

    • @christopherluvsaidan67
      @christopherluvsaidan67 6 років тому

      David Campbell I use the standard curling iron myself and was taught going from base to the ends to create a long lasting tighter curl. I curl the old fashioned way. And it always comes out amazing. And the size of the iron is gonna determine the size of the curl.

    • @christopherluvsaidan67
      @christopherluvsaidan67 6 років тому

      David Campbell I would just use the hot tools wand if I want something more softer but even then they last longer. I ise the flat iron mainly for straightening and I use the marcel curling iron for the older ladies. Or for on base curls.
