    Wow ! This just might be thee very first YT video ever of a train layout being torn down, not being built up !
    Thanks Bill for deciding to show this rather melancholy side of our hobby; when it comes time to revamp it..
    ~ All the best with the new railway project ~

    Noooooooo! It's always painful watching someone rip apart a layout that so many hours have been spent on.
    At least you already have plans for a bigger and better replacement.
    I'm slowly building mine on 4ft by 2ft boards so that it can be dissembled if need be.
    Right now it's a 2 loop tail chaser with an end-to-end suburban link for a dmu.
    Lots of bare board at the moment where sidings and industries are planned to go.
    Good luck with the build.

    With all the trees and fences down it reminds me of the great storm of 86!😄

    Amazing how much of a difference the trees and bushes make. The layout looks tiny at the end, without them. As you say, sad to see the old layout go but I'm really looking forward to seeing version 2!

    Hi Bill, When I dismantled my loft layout to move house I intended to remove all the track. Did not work out so well. I managed to remove all the points, but a lot of the track had stuck itself down with time and proved awkward to remove. I only managed to rescue about half. I hope you have better luck.

    Shame about the loft option, but you're right. With the layout of your joists and access restricted to a ladder, but also with a room in the body of the house available, why go to all the hassle and expense. Looking forward to the build of the new layout. Cheers

    Yeah, lived through this before myself. Had to dismantle a railway before. It is heartbreaking, it is hard. But all you have to remember is, think about the future., the layout you want to build, the layout you will have.

    This is a bit like taking down the Christmas tree once the festivities are over. It has to be done but its always a bit sad. But then the next tree will be even better!

    It's a pity that the birds have nowhere to roost of a night anymore. And what about the poor squirrels and insects? Have you no shame? 😀

    Sad to see, Bill, but onwards and upwards!
    You have learned a lot from building this layout and you can now put all that new knowledge and new techniques into use when you build the next one.
    As an armchair modeller, I don’t have a layout now - used to have N gauge in the back bedroom, and before that we had OO gauge in the little front bedroom. I think all the stock from both layouts is still up in the loft!
    Then I ended up working on the real thing for over forty years!
    Now happy to enjoy other peoples builds and offer advice where I can.
    Best wishes from down here on Wirral. 👍🏻👋🏻

    We bought our house solely (in my mind) because it had a staircase into the loft and one room plastered out as a spare bedroom/office as well as the main area tarped and floored with a large N gauge layout already up there. I have insulated, boarded, carpeted and lined the railway room and added a velux window and lighting before starting building my oo layout. One year on and it's all dry warm enough to use all winter, cool enough last summer. One advantage of an old 1800's house is there are few beams up there but what there is are massive. Nothing cris-crossing all over the place.

    It seems such a shame demolishing this lay-out. I really admired the well thoughtout track plan of it on a rather limited size and the authenticity t of the scenery. I hope you can make the new lay-out Just as life-like as the old.

    Quite an emotional thing taking apart something you have put so much effort into building up isn't it Bill I found myself thinking back to when I'd done things, the problems I had to overcome and the hours I had devoted. If you think about it too deeply it is easy to think yourself out of doing it. As with most things in life though you have to try to look forward rather than back, and I always found that the actual building of the layout is the part I enjoy most.
    Good luck mate you have shown in all your repair videos you are blessed with infinite patience, and an enviable attention to detail really looking forward to following your journey

    Hi Bill ,, I've pulled apart a few layouts ie ones i have got given to me and it quite lethargic for me knowing that there will be made some good out of what would have chucked out to the tip. Keep up the good work and look forward to the next demo of "bills layout" haha.

    If you are at model rail Scotland at the weekend check out the pink ballast at the Cheltenham model centre stall. It gives a nice Scottish feel to your trackwork. It's quite cheap too and comes in big bags. Also there is a Scotrail push pull set touring round at the weekend with 47 712. Check out inter City tours

    A teardrop fell. No more klickeliklick from the railjoints. One tip when removing your tracks. Hot water and soak it all down. Got that from Charley Bishop and his chanel Chadwick Model Railway. Lots of great tips from him regarding bot build and teardowns. Looking forward to see the rest of your removal for the new.

      I think Charlie lays his track on Copydex glue, so it's easy to get a decorating scraper underneath to prise up when needed. Presumably that responds to hot water.

    As you say, I'm sad to see the old layout go, but I look forward to you starting the new one. I look forward to starting mine when I get there. I have a long way to go before I start one.
    You need to retain as much as you can to reuse on your new layout. Things are not any cheaper.

    First I screamed at my fone what's Bill doing!! Good luck with the new layout rebuild. Have you seen MODELTECH's Pro Track Rail Aligner for your lift out section. Made in Wales.
    I'm at the too old for the loft stage, but have a small room to start a modular layout in. Planning to build extra optional stations to change it up. But two doorways, two removable sections.....hence the Proaligners.

Just one request, please can you include a back scene in the new layout? Curtains and a dining chair spoil the illusion! I'm with you, whatever.

    • @oobill
      @oobill  Рік тому

      2nd and 3rd. The inner branchline was 1st. The new layout won't have any 1st radius as both Hornby and Bachmann seem to be making models these days that don't like it!

    • @PeterJewell2
      @PeterJewell2 Рік тому +1

      The switches are just standard Tri-ang/Hornby. If you go to Bill's home page and look back at his older videos, you should find a few where he is describing the colour light signalling and the controllers. (Suggest you start the list at the first video and work forwards, because they were 12-18+ months ago!)

    • @PeterJewell2
      @PeterJewell2 Рік тому +1

      No, it's the loss of the created. Whenever you make or repair something, you put part of yourself into it, and losing or destroying it kind-of loses part of you too. So for something like a model railway there's that feeling in spades.
