What if you poured the oil out that seperates in nut butters instead of stirring it in as suggest on the label? I know you'd get a much dryer butter but surely it would be much lower calorie?

I soak a mixture of nuts and seeds everyday that equates to about 80g. People say that's too much, but I feel really good lol.

As for oils, I will continue to do what I'm doing now: no industrial seed oils, consuming EEVO, some Avocado oil in dressings/mayos, natural butter and oils/fats from fish (Omega-3s). Restricting omega-6s seems like a solid policy for good heart health.

Aren't seed oils mostly extracted using chemicals, of which residues remain in the oil?

I've really tightened up my 'not eating processed foods' diet recently and also stopped the very little drinking I was doing (1-2 beers, 1-2 times a week!), I noticed an almost immediate difference in my energy, mood, performance, body composition, everything! The most processed thing I eat now is sourdough bread which I make myself using organic flour.

Thank you for having Sarah Berry on as a guest. I love her perspective from Zöe. Also, nuts and seeds are amazing in terms of nutrient density as they are the egg of the plant world. We may have some difficulty accessing all of it for many reasons, but they're powerhouses.

Wrong. They’re packed with plant defense chemicals. Cut them out of your diet completely. Almonds have cyanide in them. You could actually eat enough to kill you and yet we let our kids eat them as a “healthy” snack. Spinach, beets and nuts. Don’t believe me. Just try stopping eating them and maybe your brain fog/light depression with lift like it did for me. Never be afraid to eliminate foods and experiment with what makes you feel bad.

When you talked about smoothies, I started wondering about blended soups too. I normally feel my best when eating more smoothies & soup. I’m sure it’s giving my digestion somewhat of a break but I know it’s a lot of what she’s referring to as fast food. I do tend to eat and drink them slow, I just don’t understand why those foods would make me feel my best if it’s an overload.

Interesting. I personally find that when I make a smoothie, i find it overall much less satisfying. If i instead eat the fruit as is, i eat less of it and i am fuller longer. But I appreciate that’s not everyone’s experience. Same with soups. If i do a chunky soup/stew instead of a puréed soup, i feel the same - chunky is more satisfying for me.

Seed oil haters... I think that she discredits herself with that poor display of lack of objectivity.
Speaking personally, when I went keto, I relied on almonds and almond flour, and in fact spinach as well. Things didnt go too well and I gave up almonds - and suddenly, even though I was not expecting this, I had moderately severe oxalate dumping which took some weeks to recover from.
    Love my macadamias though

Nuts made me feel terrible. I cut them out after suffering with brain fog and depression (I had been eating lots of nuts). Most nuts are roasted in seed oils and soy/canola poison. Highly inflammatory. I had withdrawals and oxylate dumping too but feel better now.

The way I process walnuts at home is by soaking them in lukewarm water for 8ish hours and then putting them in the sun to dry and eating them (chewing) not in a blender. I wonder does soaking affect their energy/fiber?

Soaking nuts, grains, seeds and legumes reduces antinutrients like phytates and lectins, making the nutrients more bioavailable and easier to digest. I add salt to my water when soaking nuts but I don't think that's necessary to reduce antinutrients. Then I dehydrate them on low until they are crunchy, 12-24 hours.

Is this why you feel fuller faster the more you chew? I'd like to see a study between chewing more (eating less but absorbing more) vs. chewing less, eating more but faster and absobing less?

Sounds like you have found the best diet for humans. Nuts are poison. I stopped them and brain fog and depression lifted. She’s a nutter literally. Seed and vegetable oils are highly atherogenic. Butter and animal fat is much better for you contrary to the keep you sick forever medical advice.

The best way I have ever lost weight was to cut my Total Carbs down to an average of 65 grans/day for literally 5 weeks. In exactly 5 weeks I lost exactly 32 pounds. I use a medical sliding weight scale for accuracy. This would likely work for near anyone.

I lost 68lbs in 9 months by doing keto (aka cutting carbs); not strict 24/7, took a 1 week break about every 6 weeks. They say keto is 25-30g but at 50g I was dumping weight off. Through many factors I gained 50lbs back, 3 years later, so I’m back on it again and looking forward to awesome results.

@@jeanscurti5330 Yep, me too. I have to fast and vary my calories. Switching up what I'm doing seems to work the best. My system figures out real fast what I'm trying to do and does everything to keep me from losing weight. I also have to be strictly focused on stress reduction. That means I cannot fast to the point it stresses me out. If I'm hungry, I eat.

Interesting interview. Lots of good stuff. As far as seed oil, linoleic acid is inflammatory and most of us don't need any more of it. In my opinion, seed oils are just useless fats when we have olive oil, macadamia nut oil, foods rich in polyunsaturated fats, etc... with less linoleic acid. I agree with her that there isn't evidence they are the root cause of obesity or anything like that. But, even apart from their use in ultra processed foods we know aren't health promoting, I still see no reason to add canola, safflower, sunflower, etc... oils to anything. On the other hand, I add EVOO, macadamia nut oil as well as the whole nuts to things all the type to meet my fat macro goals.

Bravo on your work Dr. Eating foods in their whole form as nature intended, less heating, refining, processing is likely the healthiest way to eat most food items. Humans cannot improve nearly any offering of nature by intervening. So much we do not know about how the form of food affects our cells and gene expression. Seems the more we diverge from nature the less healthy we become.

First Sarah says eating foods in their natural form is ideal for the body, then she says seed oils (highly processed) are not a problem. Seems contradictory. If processed foods are the main problem, that would include seed oils. Now that we all know how small a cell wall is in a nut or seed, any mechanism that can break that down and make an oil out of it is by definition processed and nothing near what we'd find in nature.
