Excellent guide. It's also important to remember that your action is entirely relevant to how level the frets are, and that should be step one to a setup. I've wasted a lot of time before chasing low action and adjusting truss rods when a single high fret made it pointless.
Enjoying your informative channel. I bought your set of gauges and they are well made & very-useful. Where can I get the Ruler you are using? Appreciate any input.
I have a Telecaster, Les Paul and 335 and they all partially fret out around 10th fret. I want my strings higher than factory spec. If set to factory spec height they start to partially fret out at about 10th fret, still get the note but no sustain.
@@ManotickGuitarTech Thanks for responding, all the techs I have gone to said the frets are fine. The 335 is brand new. Maybe I should ship a guitar to you! LOL
Great video. Funnily, I looked at my Affinity Strat today (I mostly play an acoustic) and just guessed at the heights. I have a really cheap, maybe unreliable, set of digital callipers, and I think it's worth measuring a few playing cards etc. The good thing about picks, is that often they have the thickness printed on the pick! Thanks for the tips, Steve.
Bought a set of your gauges. They look very useful - looking forward to using them. Keep up the good work!

Yup, my secret ‘weapon’ is my rubber mallet but only when my clients aren’t around… you might know what I mean.😅✌️
Thank you for the info, class, and charts !

I ordered mine from Taylor Tools

Sounds like you need to dress down the frets from about the 15th fret to the last one

as you are using rulers ,OT wa
Could this be why some strings sound "choked".
The £1 coin isn’t good for much at all any more to be honest.
