      Getting to the local GW store on release day is a decent backup plan.

    Ungrim's Dragon hide cape was a gift from Thorgrim Grudgebearer after he became High King. Since he hasnt taken the trone yet at this point in the timeline, Ungrim doesn't have hiscloak yet.

    Good to see you guys on the tubes again. I might go for the battalion box out of all of that as I won't be fielding a full Dwarf army anytime soon, but they'll be more than enough to work as mercenaries and also be handy in other games I play too.

    Ohh…it increases the speed of the army.

    • @Andy2D6
      @Andy2D6  Місяць тому

      It'll be interesting to see exactly how that works. Whether it'll have to be within a certain distance of a unit to increase its speed, or target specific units to increase move stat or give them a bonus move like the anvil does.

      @@Andy2D6 It was pretty harsh back in the day vs horde, iirc it did a number of automatic hits per rank…and escalated for larger units.
      I mean this was during the time when units of 40+ were a thing, and I don’t have an issue necessarily with the warmachine itself, the slayer crew is what kills it for me.
      I’m one guy, and will get over myself for sure…just voicing displeasure. ;)
      Similar to how Primarus marines are somehow allowed in Ultra Marines. I mean they should be heresy in any loyalist chapter…but Mr Srict Codex Gulliman is ok with messing with the gene seed given by the Emperor?
      I understand this is more of a shoehorn to allowing “standard” marines of different scales…and not alienating players who have 20 years worth on “first generation” marines, but really pretty clumsy way of changing a foundational tenant of the Space marines fluff.

    Dead games are easier to get ahold of models for than new , in production models. I’m only to be crazy pissed if I waited all this time for not getting what I want from this release. It isn’t much , and I dread seeing it all being sold out instantaneously.

    Thanks for the review/preview/whatever it is, was a good listen. Nothing there I absolutely feel I need which is a relief in some ways. A few things I would like (Anvil, Marauder spear/pike Dwarfs, more Slayers, Goblin Hewer), but that I don't envisage buying.
    On the Marauder spear/pike Dwarfs that standard bearer is very much a Marauder Dwarf rather than anything that would have been sold as an 'Imperial Dwarf' at the time (it meant something completely different back then), same goes for the Champion. They fit well enough with the unit though I agree the ones from the 'Regiment' line would have been better , especially the standard bearer who adds to the eccentricity and is more fun. Pleased though that as they're going with 'Imperial Dwarf' = 'Empire Dwarf' that they've released some Marauder ones as they have the look for it (mainly the clothing) while the Citadel Perry Imperial Dwarfs (Dragon Company or any from the wider range) really don't. The Perry ones are (much) better models for the most part though in my view, notable exceptions being the Marauder cannon and crew, the very first lot of Thunderers (there weren't any Citadel ones but the Marauder ones were my favourites out of their Dwarfs and the equal of many Perrys) and arguably the Crossbow Dwarfs as the Citadel ones had oversized plastic crossbows.
    Slayers - I don't see how it would be in any way thematic for Slayers to have higher movement than other Dwarfs as it would mean that Dwarfs were the only race who are slowed down by armour while the opposite ought to be true if anything. It would make them more playable of course though in the kind of games we see Andy play it's not as if his infantry get to go up against other infantry much so I don't think it would make much difference. They should definitely have a way of accessing more attacks and a ward save though even then they would still have problems as an expensive unarmoured unit that at least in the first instance will very likely be receiving a charge. Would love them to get a boost that brings them into the game without turning them in to a fanatic delivery vehicle via the guys with the axes on chains that I can't really be doing with. Quite like the 'some sort of swiftstride' idea. Relative to other modern Dwarf models I can see the appeal of the new Ungrim though to me he looks like a different species to any GW Slayers you can get to field alongside him other than perhaps the AoS ones. I can't bring myself to look hard enough at them to make a judgment on that front, think they're awful. Don't like the orange hair with other coloured beard thing - much prefer both the same colour though no reason at all to me why it has to be orange.

      The visual style of the Dwarfs definitely underwent several shifts over the decades, but so far they're doing a good job grouping models to look cohesive.

    • @ClydeMillerWynant
      @ClydeMillerWynant Місяць тому

      @@Andy2D6 I think that's mostly right. Have to admit I haven't managed to work out what your favourite era/style of Dwarfs is as you mix and match so much. I guess the paint style is very clearly of a time even if the models are a mixture though.

    • @Andy2D6
      @Andy2D6  Місяць тому

      @ClydeMillerWynant Mid 90s is probably my favourite era, since that's when I started as a youngster. The bulk of my collection is from the late 90s and 2000 when the multi-part plastic regiments came out.

    • @ClydeMillerWynant
      @ClydeMillerWynant Місяць тому

      @@Andy2D6 Not a lot of 90s Dwarfs seem to be getting the rerelease treatment which I find a bit odd - possibly only really the Slayers and maybe the anvil (not sure when that came out)? Expecting to see some more in the next wave though.
      I think I'm just set in my ways when it comes to Dwarfs and really only do like the 80s ones and some early 90s ones and even then I'm quite choosy. There are other factions for which I quite like modern models, but the Dwarfs just don't do it for me at all. My current shopping list is Gyrocopters (either of the first two though preferably the original), the five Thunderers I don't have from the first Marauder set, the handful of Slayers/Beserkers that I like and don't have, some individual imperials/norse that I've always wanted, Marauder cannon and organ gun. So nothing that's getting rereleased which means Ebay. If anything I might end up buying from alternative 'Oldhammer'-style suppliers instead though as I have started finding things I like quite a lot here and there.

    Goblin hewer is pure dumb. Seeking a honorable death on a backfield hill?
    This was a pure “we need something to deal with hordes” non-fluff model.

      @Andy2D6  Місяць тому

      I wouldn't mind it explained as the Slayers not wanting to waste their time killing 10,000 goblins when there are trolls and giants around, so the hewer can deal with the rabble.

      @@Andy2D6 so the slayers in the hill are ok with forgoing the retribution via a heroic death? Seems like those fellows are doubling down on their shameful acts.
      Maybe get some normal dwarfs to help…but manning a warmachine is about as far as “death wish” as you could get.
      To each his own I guess…maybe Khorne warriors can learn magic because helps with skull/blood collection.
