    If you go ahead with making a bait pond, then tilapia might be a good species for it. They can survive and spawn in much shallower waters than other fish and grow fairly fast with pure vegetation diets so no need for more fish pellets. They also wont harm the main pond if they survive in there, and any that get too big for the bass will be good eating.

    I've got a 5ac lake and 1/2ac bait pond. We grow bluegill, redear, and minnows in the bait pond. It's great for us since I have access to minnows for crappie fishing the lake any time I want. I would probably stick with bluegill for your bait pond. It's probably not as glamorous as prawns which is what I think you're going after, but bluegills are the money fish. Also you could take about 20 from your lake to stock the pond and save money there.

    The documentation you do is incredible! You are very articulate and try to get as much information in as possible without being longwinded. I do however wonder why you feed Moby such small baitfish? Keep up the great videos and have a Merry Christmas!

    That little guy with the spot on the head is called a Bufflehead. The other bird by the decoy is a Merganser, probably a Hooded Merganser. He will be magnificent next Spring with breeding plumage. You'll love him; he is a fish eating specialist. Notice that his beak appears to have sharp "teeth" unlike a Duck. That's how Mergansers grab and hold their prey.

    A bait pond is a great idea to become self efficient. I know it's not a popular option, but why does no one put yellow perch in their ponds?
    Your pond has become a teaching lesson for what I hope to do some day.

    • @Indysippi
      @Indysippi Рік тому +3

      Perch can over populate really fast if not maintained. And they eat the food bass eat so its kind of like crappie, in a small pond you just dont mix those fish really.

    I think you need a pavilion with picnic tables and possibly a fireplace or fire pit.

      I've second the fire pit project, as long as there is no danger to any wildlife.

    I think some hardy water lilies or American Lotus and some marginal/shoreline plants like arrowhead, and Iris would make it look more natural and probably help with water quality too.
    Maybe these are a straight No for a bass pond..? But plants would seem to be a plus for the fish and birds that you have there. Of course they would require some maintenance, but if you limit what's planted it would be more straightforward. ...?

    Put in a live stream from your bait Pond to your pond one that goes over rocks all you need is just like a pond pump to circulate water from your pond to the other one and then lay down a plastic liner and put rocks on it make it look all natural it'll blend right in you have a nice picnic area overlooking the main pond
