I would strongly recommend not adding any goldfish. They will eventually take over the pond choke out the bass and bluegill. They feed by digging along the bottom they are always clouding up the water and they will eat the eggs of the other fish.
The aggressive bass will quickly prevent the goldfish from taking over. Ive seen many ponds down south stocked with goldfish and in a few years most of the goldfish were gone.
@@Tackletuesdayfishing Not if the goldfish are too big for the current size bass. goldfish grow large and quickly too.
@@Mr.LakeShow with how aggressive the predators are around his property, I doubt that will be an issue. Goldfish don’t just spontaneously multiply. When they do have a spawn. Then those fry will be easy pickings for small and large fish.
@@Tackletuesdayfishing the problem is also the chance they get out besides all the flooding security systems in place and take over waterways
I agree, goldfish bad idea for pond.
i would be very cautious adding goldfish to the pond as its in the carp family and we all know what carp can do to the environment not to mention if your pond ever floods they could end up in the local river systems. proceed with caution and do your research!
Thank you! Yes. Keep drilling those facts! Bama Bass if you're there Monster Goldfish in Lake Tahoe. Google now.
yep told the same thing had them take over mhy lake
Overflowing is such an important point! This isn't a closed ecosystem
Goldfish will be the first fish eaten because they have bright colours, maybe if there are some natural coloured goldfish maybe those can live a little longer but with 400 tiger bass in a pond, 300 goldfish have no chance to survive more than a week or too, another disadvantage is their large tale which makes them slow compared to the other fish
Who gives a shit
I’ve never commented on anything on the internet… Ever… But felt compelled to do so in this case because I did this to my own pond. 4 years ago I put (4) goldfish in my 1/2 acre pond (I didn’t know any better) and there’s easily 1,000 in there now. I have blue herons, ospreys, and king fishers come every single day and they will never make a dent in the goldfish population. I’ve got bass and bluegill in there too. The bass are big, but the goldfish own the pond. I love this channel and everything they have going on, but putting goldfish in that pond. Ouch. In 2 years we’ll be watching massive schools of goldfish swimming around, guaranteed. The predatory bird action on this channel is going to be epic though. Not being negative or hating on their operation, just been there, done that.
Yeah he messed up big time. Especially after he said they were bigger than he was expecting and too big for the bass to eat. Knowing that right away, why still put them in? I would never introduce any carp to a pond but knowing I had 1,000 carp too big to be eaten? I would have immediately started selling them off as pets/feeders and not put them in the pond… he screwed up so badly.
Yep... think about silver head carp
"Schools of goldfish"?
I kept thinking, 'This dude's talking about carp, right?'🤔
My cat kept the population of goldfish down for us.
This pond is going to take a dive in quality. And it’s a shame because it has so much amazing potential now.
Goldfish can actually be really invasive. They're still carp, after all, and they've been bred to breed fast to sell more.
Not carp.but very similar feeding/breeding habits and lots of disease.
No they are definitely 100% carp
No.

Another great video. Congratulations to you and Liz on the newest addition to your family. Prayers from afar for a healthy pregnancy!! Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
Hey Bamabass, I’ve been reading some of the comments about how releasing goldfish into the pond might not have been the best idea. I have come to the conclusion that it might be best to remove the goldfish or figure out an alternate plan. Where I live, the lake harbour has become infested with 12 inch plus goldfish (initially the size that you’ve added to the pond) that essentially look like orange carp. They’ve multiplied and invaded the waters that are filled with bass, having a significant effect on spawning and ecosystem conditions. Hopefully this helps, take care.
Mature goldfish tend to be in the 12 inch size.
@@tanglediver and mature goldfish wherever they are, destroy all other fish stock
@@dylanzrim3635 carp
Goldfish/Koi are selectively bred carp. All of which will grow to fit their container and food supply. Please do not release them into your pond. Besides, that size is used for trotline bait.
Well he can't just take them back out, but I think those bass will eat them all up in no time.
Said 100% of well intentioned people who introduced non-native, invasive species into an ecosystem: "it's never gonna be a problem, they're never gonna get out"
Those herons and egrets are going to take eggs all over their region.
@@Texas_Swift not to mention if that pond floods during a hurricane or heavy rains. Yes he has overflow, but that may not always work. Especially with hurricane force winds.
@@Texas_Swift Yep. The eggs attach to bird legs and are distributed wherever the bird decides to feed next.
There have been a few aquatic biologists in these comments. Id like to hear from them on the probability of my above statement being:

CONGRATS!! I'm so happy for your family! Can't wait until Sara and her little brother are fishing in the pond!
I love how far the pond has come! Also, WEEK 8 of asking to name 2 of the bass Scylla and Charybdis. They were the monsters that guarded the straight in The Odyssey. Also Elk country is beautiful! My uncle got his first bull this year
A lake local (kind of) to me, Bluewater had people release goldfish into it and they became such a problem that they had to add tiger muskies to prey on them to control their numbers.
i mean he does have tiger bass 🤔 also hes not dumping them all in at once and im sure hes not feeding much if any right no given the current size of the bass
Either his bass will control the population or the goldfish will eat and ruin things in the pond once they’re 6-12 inches long
Yeah, I'ld think twice before putting goldfish in. What do your local experts tell you? Well, they are in now.
When the floods come, your goldfish are now free to roam the coutryside.
yeah I'm not too big on the idea of him puttin those in there but it's his pond he does what he wants with it. as for them being a nuisance. Most certainly. in fact Bama Bass if you're in the comments, send those sons o' bucks back and get your money back. if you need a little convincing, google Monster Goldfish in Lake Tahoe. That'll give ya a rough idea on how big them sons o' guns can get and weather or not you need them in your pond. They're aquarium fish for good reason and nobody on this channel wants to see your gorgeous pond or it's ecosystem destroyed in any kind of way.
Now on a side bet the herons might be able to pick um off but if it's not part of their regular diet this could potentially cause problems for them as well. Right now it's not that serious because they're still relatively little, but if they are indeed too large for the bass to eat you'll definitely wanna get them out of there. (Just saying) there's all kinds of information out there proving goldfish can in fact survive the harsh elements and once they become an invasive species, it spells problems for both bass and bluegill. And I don't see Bama Bass wanting to put muskies in there cause they too eat bass.
Should build a bait pond. Goldfish were probably a bad idea, but time will tell. Congratulations on the addition to the family
He needs sediment collection ponds bad anyway to deal with the runoff. That would be a perfect use for them. I don’t think the pond builder helped with those issues. I mean it is the ugliest shaped pond I’ve ever seen. I love the content and wish him the best. That pond build had to be hard on him with so many problems.
They were 100% a Bad Idea.. They will outcompete everything in that pond.
@@fortwoodmisery the bass will have them gone in less then 48 hours. I do this in my pond as well as I've seen plenty and plenty of fishing youtube channels do the same thing and none of them has has any problem as well as myself
@@smalltownnews Yeah.. Nah... You are wrong.. Goldfish mate like twice a month.. I literally work in the pond industry. Adding goldfish is a no no.. Unless your goal is a bunch of gold fish.
@@fortwoodmisery oh yea ok 👌 so please go ahead and explain to me how it works fine in my pond I have never had any problems or better yet explain how also all these big youtubers do the sane thing and they don't have any problems either. Be careful with those goldfish man! I live in Colorado and some guy decided to put goldfish in a local pond that was predominantly filled with trout, it got so bad the goldfish ended up overtaking the pond to the point they issued a cash bounty on every goldfish caught in the pond, it only takes a few for things to potentially get out of hand!
All the different species get along because you have created an environment has more than enough food to support all the diversity on the prproperty.
Goldfish are super invasive be careful this doesn't get out of control
30 seconds in I’m already thinking how bad the goldfish can be for the pond they will overthrow the whole pond
I know! I can barely pay attention to the video because I'm so nervous for when the goldfish show up
They might take over.
@@jaygee5693 They become large carp, iirc. Not the best fish for an ecosystem. Ida loaded it with 10,000 blue gill fry. They are cheap if bought from a breeding farm. And the fishing is top notch, especially for kids wanting to learn the sport of fishing.
Aint nothin like a day of perch jerkin!!

@@majorrev8690 I just know that some ecosystems, - rivers, lakes etc, have had their natural fish populations wiped out by aggressive carp. Hate to be "that guy" but you may wanna look into the risk of adding goldfish to the pond. They can be voracious and they get really big. They may out compete your other fish for food or even destroy the spawning beds of the bluegill. In a lot of places they're considered dangerous invasive species. Only takes a few survivors to start an irreversible chain reaction.
Idk anything about fish but yea what he said seems legit
Yeah Goldfish aren't good. I use them just to balance out my ecosystem
Depends on how many you put in there. If it’s just a few it’s no big deal.
I would avoid adding them. Too many horror stories about them taking over.

Oh my oh my, congratulations on your upcoming baby. So excited for you. Big hugs 🤗 🤗🤗
On those goldfish, now I’m not an expert. But growing up and fishing on the feather river we caught carp and tossed on the banks because they eat up the trout eggs. In the delta they have a carp shoot and use a crossbow to catch them. They’re put in a dumpster to go to a fertilizer company.
Again congratulations on your baby.
I suggest skipping the pond filter entirely. Just pump water from the main pond into your bait well. Then match your drain return to drop into the pond below. It will be less equipment to manage and use the natural pond filtration.
Not to mention temperature control.
Yes keeping all that fish in that small tub with an undersized uncycled filter is animal cruelty. Those fish will be dead in days. This is retarded behaviour
I was thinking the same thing. Let the pump in the pond and make some holes on upper side of the bucket to keep the level constant.
Same thought here, suspend the pump 1ft under a float

Congrats on the new baby!!! Very happy for you both. Don’t worry about the goldfish. Moby will knock those out in no time
Not sure about adding goldfish, they tend to out compete everything. Also they can become very invasive if some escaped into the overflow and then downstream
I feel like the young goldfish would be eaten once they reach an inch long. With that colour, every bass and blue gill is going to feast on them.
You could build a stand pipe that drains back into the pond and use that pond pump to pump water into the stock tank. Doing this will allow the fish to be already use to the pond water and you will have fresh clean water all the time without that bulky filter.

Just my 2 cents. You could have made an overflow and just pumped pond water continuously into your tank, that way you don’t need a filter and you don’t have to worry about the water overheating from sitting out in the sun and you wouldn’t have to worry about cleaning a filter.
Your 100% correct, that filter even if it had been cycled before hand, will not keep those fish alive for long. If they don't suffocate they will die within 2 weeks from all the nitrates and amonia.
Additionally, nitrogen wouldn't be an issue. As set up, those fish will be dead quickly.
My thoughts exactly. It might just he food but they still deserve some quality of life. 1300 fish in a 100 gallons looks like a sardine tin to me
@@botje420 I totally agree. No animals deserve to die from ammonia burns or directly from ammonia. Just all the stress for 1300 fish in that small area. And he laughs and wonder why the fish is jumping out of there

Congratulation’s on the addition to the family. What a wonderful way to share the news with your loyal UA-cam friends.
Pond filters arr really easy to diy...well easy once you know what design you want. Insee a lot of ppl isong natural filtration, which is pumping into a settling pond, using plants for nitrogen absorbsion, and a long meandering stream as the biofilter.

yeah I just checked it out they "should" still be at just the right size for them to eat. if not Bama Bas you may want to consider adding a catfish or two for security. they have a wider range of things they can eat and have a history of eating fish half their size.
@@PurpleDrac they better eat them quick, goldfish grow 1-3 inches a month depending on how much food is in the environment
Congratulations on the expanding family! As for the bait holding tank, if you're going to have a pump out there to begin with, why wouldn't you pump directly from the pond and have a standpipe/overflow that drains directly back into the pond? You wouldn't have to mess with a filter.
My first thought as well. Lol 🤦♂️
Not only that, but it would regulate the water temperature.

Great video! I hope the goldfish don’t breed in the pond and possibly overpopulate, even with the bass
Yeah introducing an invasive fish species into my pond would be about last on my to-do list.
Yeah, he better hope the bass find and are able to eat every last one of the goldfish. The goldfish will spawn and turn that new pond into a giant smelly fish sewer.
They feed the algorithms
@@matteoman39 I’m from australia and carp have completely decimated rivers turning them from clear and productive too muddy and stagnant killing off native flora and fauna my dream is too create a natural flowing river for natives and seeing the effects of invasive species on land and water all around the world and here in Australia this makes me cringe people have too learn about the land they are on too understand how important keeping native populations strong is too the ecosystem.
Keep harping that in the comments- PLEASE!!! I don't want to see any of that happen to this pond he's worked so hard to build I mean c'mon. who wants to see it overran by friggin' goldfish!?! Screw that.
Nice trip! Glad you got to experience it and hopefully you got to take some elk meat home.
Don't worry about those who don't like hunting. They hate any form of long term conservation.
If you have any footage of the hunt I'd love to see it!
Based
I think he has a second channel if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if it's hunting though.
Have had a pond my dad put in in '78 with bass both lg and sm mouth, blue gill, cat fish blues, channel, and flathead as well as brook trout and rainbow trout. The pond was dug parallel but 700 ft. away from the creek that had controlled flow both in and out. 10 yrs later the pond was a sanctuary withe sustainable populations of every spcs of fish we introduced. My friends little brother put 50 "feeder goldfish" in without asking. He didn't know any better. Within 5 years the goldfish were breeding at a pace that shortly overran the pond completely. No more successful procreation of fish, the turtles were gone, the pons was devastated. I wish you well with the project and will follow. Thank you for what you do my friend.
Drill a hole in the rubbermaid for a bulkhead and just pump water from the pond into the tub, that way you have a continuous stream of fresh pond water thru the bait tank. The old water drains into the pond again.
We love the videos! Keep them coming 🖤 congratulations on the baby boy!!
Are you thinking of adding any other species to your pond ever, like turtles or catfish?
I could see him puttin a channel or a flathead in there. That'd be nice!
Or crawfish
