    I would strongly recommend not adding any goldfish. They will eventually take over the pond choke out the bass and bluegill. They feed by digging along the bottom they are always clouding up the water and they will eat the eggs of the other fish.

      Goldfish will be the first fish eaten because they have bright colours, maybe if there are some natural coloured goldfish maybe those can live a little longer but with 400 tiger bass in a pond, 300 goldfish have no chance to survive more than a week or too, another disadvantage is their large tale which makes them slow compared to the other fish

    I’ve never commented on anything on the internet… Ever… But felt compelled to do so in this case because I did this to my own pond. 4 years ago I put (4) goldfish in my 1/2 acre pond (I didn’t know any better) and there’s easily 1,000 in there now. I have blue herons, ospreys, and king fishers come every single day and they will never make a dent in the goldfish population. I’ve got bass and bluegill in there too. The bass are big, but the goldfish own the pond. I love this channel and everything they have going on, but putting goldfish in that pond. Ouch. In 2 years we’ll be watching massive schools of goldfish swimming around, guaranteed. The predatory bird action on this channel is going to be epic though. Not being negative or hating on their operation, just been there, done that.

      @SPFLDAngler Рік тому +19

      Yeah he messed up big time. Especially after he said they were bigger than he was expecting and too big for the bass to eat. Knowing that right away, why still put them in? I would never introduce any carp to a pond but knowing I had 1,000 carp too big to be eaten? I would have immediately started selling them off as pets/feeders and not put them in the pond… he screwed up so badly.

    Hey Bamabass, I’ve been reading some of the comments about how releasing goldfish into the pond might not have been the best idea. I have come to the conclusion that it might be best to remove the goldfish or figure out an alternate plan. Where I live, the lake harbour has become infested with 12 inch plus goldfish (initially the size that you’ve added to the pond) that essentially look like orange carp. They’ve multiplied and invaded the waters that are filled with bass, having a significant effect on spawning and ecosystem conditions. Hopefully this helps, take care.

      yeah I'm not too big on the idea of him puttin those in there but it's his pond he does what he wants with it. as for them being a nuisance. Most certainly. in fact Bama Bass if you're in the comments, send those sons o' bucks back and get your money back. if you need a little convincing, google Monster Goldfish in Lake Tahoe. That'll give ya a rough idea on how big them sons o' guns can get and weather or not you need them in your pond. They're aquarium fish for good reason and nobody on this channel wants to see your gorgeous pond or it's ecosystem destroyed in any kind of way.
      Now on a side bet the herons might be able to pick um off but if it's not part of their regular diet this could potentially cause problems for them as well. Right now it's not that serious because they're still relatively little, but if they are indeed too large for the bass to eat you'll definitely wanna get them out of there. (Just saying) there's all kinds of information out there proving goldfish can in fact survive the harsh elements and once they become an invasive species, it spells problems for both bass and bluegill. And I don't see Bama Bass wanting to put muskies in there cause they too eat bass.

    Hate to be "that guy" but you may wanna look into the risk of adding goldfish to the pond. They can be voracious and they get really big. They may out compete your other fish for food or even destroy the spawning beds of the bluegill. In a lot of places they're considered dangerous invasive species. Only takes a few survivors to start an irreversible chain reaction.

The pond was dug parallel but 700 ft. away from the creek that had controlled flow both in and out. 10 yrs later the pond was a sanctuary withe sustainable populations of every spcs of fish we introduced. My friends little brother put 50 "feeder goldfish" in without asking. He didn't know any better. Within 5 years the goldfish were breeding at a pace that shortly overran the pond completely. No more successful procreation of fish, the turtles were gone, the pons was devastated. I wish you well with the project and will follow. Thank you for what you do my friend.
