    It's a paid software, and the paid software was provided to the video creator for free. I only have one suggestion. Please provide such information in the beginning of the video.

      Hi Anindya, Thank you for your suggestion. I will keep this in mind for the future videos. However, I marked this video as a paid promotion. There was a pop-up in the UA-cam player at the beginning of the video. Didn't you see it?

      He probably has Ad-Block Like I do. So yeah, that is his fault. LucidChart is another good alternative and works in browser.

    Haha, funny thing was this was specifically requested for one of the courses I was taking. Definitely made making charts easy. Nice to know it's featured on this channel. 😆

      Hi ki2ne, Thank you for your comment. It is nice to hear that this program is getting popular. I found out about it only when Edraw approached me. It is a really cool program. Too bad it is difficult to make the same feature-rich program as an open-source program. May I ask what course was that? Just curious?

    • @cldream
      @cldream 6 років тому

      Average Linux User It was a business-oriented systems analysis course that at one point we did a number of graphs - flow charts for programming, and a chart mapping out the design/layout of the database for the projects/assignments we were given.

    Hello ALU! During my studies I used Dia which doesn't have all the features of Edraw but is totally free! I used it for microcontrollers and sensors when I had to make the workflow of a program. But for diagrams yEd is fantastic!
    Cheers.

      I also used and keep using many open-source programs. I do professional graphics in R, but it requires a lot of learning the language. I also use Inkscape and Libreoffice Impress. For one who doesn't want or don't have time to learn all these programs, Edraw Max can be a solution.

      Mani Zaeim Nothing on Linux is dictated to be strictly free-of-charge, despite the amount of software being released as such. If you game on Linux, Steam and GOG has a bunch of games and software that requires you to pay money for.

      It would have been fantastic if it was free. But it is extremly difficult to maintain such project as open-source. I am a supporter and defender of open-source, but open-source is not free either. Someone spend time working on it, and usually that time was not paid or was paid at very low rate. Besides, there are many programs people would be happy to pay for if there were Linux versions. Adobe suite is just one example. I constantly get comments like "I like Linux but keep dual-booting because I need Photoshop, Lightroom, illustrator etc." More choice won't hurt Linux, I believe Linux will only benefit form it. Would you disagree?

    Amazing! Tried to install under Antergos Arch LInux from the AUR but I get the error: array options contains unknown option '!upx'
    Any ideas? I installed the upx programm but that didn't solve the problem

    • @cldream
      @cldream 6 років тому +1

      Sven Schröder I just tried removing the upx option, and it builds.
      You might want to look at the Github version of the PKGBUILD (mentioned in the comments on the edrawmax AUR page) as the one on the AUR is the Chinese-language release.

    What's the best and simple rolling release for new users?

    • @serge5046
      @serge5046 6 років тому +1

      Hello Loyalty! Normally, a rolling release is not intended for a new user. Now all depends on the kind of new user. If this new user is willing to learn and to do some research on the internet when he'll get issues then he can try a rolling release.
      Which one is difficult to answer. It depends on the needs/wishes of this new user. Gentoo offers you the greatest choice but also the greatest challenge.
      OpenSUSE Tumbleweed or Siduction are good distributions, not that difficult.
      For Arch I would recommend Arcolinux or Arcolinuxd to begin with. When you feel comfortable you can go the pure Arch way.
      Slackware current is also quite challenging.
      None will be "simple" If you have no Linux background I would suggest to begin with a fixed release distribution until you have enough knowledge to migrate to a rolling release model.

    • @AverageLinuxUser
      @AverageLinuxUser  6 років тому

      Serge is right. a rolling release is not intended for new users. If you really need a user-friendly rolling distro, I believe Manjaro is a good option.

    • @cldream
      @cldream 6 років тому

      I do try to use free(dom-respecting) software as much as possible, unless the situation calls for it and/or no alternatives. I've done my papers and spreadsheets with LibreOffice, used GIMP (exclusively; never learned to use Photoshop) for a variety of projects, including a flyer for school. I used gcc at home and MinGW+MSYS on school computers for an introductory C++ class.

      It's possible to leave with opensource software only. I have done my whole PhD exclusively using open source. But some open source programs have a steep learning curve.

    • @wvagner284
      @wvagner284 6 років тому +1

      That's why we need, besides producing software, sharing knowledge. I moved from Windows and I only use open source today, but I have difficulties to learn how to do some things that I used to do on Microsoft Office on LibreOffice, for example, and It's really hard to find content for this on the web. I'm really gratefull when someone share something he/she is good at.

    245 USD!!! there are a bunch of other software such as MS-Office (web), lucid chart and ... which is much cheaper.

    • @oliviacamp9937
      @oliviacamp9937 6 років тому +1

      Lucid chart costs you $119 for 1 year and $245 for two years, but Edraw Max is $245 for lifetime use.

    • @manizaeim
      @manizaeim 6 років тому

      It is free and cloud base, unless the user wants to have more than 3 diagrams and then it is only 8USD per month which cost 96USD per year (not to mention for full features & it is cloud base, they have 4USD per month as well), I don't have any doubt that EDrawMax is a great piece of software and it is desktop application(may be java based) but charging 170USD for none profitable is very expensive. MS-Office 365 which include vsio and bunch of other office suite is even cheaper! here you can find almost all great alternative to Visio alternativeto.net/software/microsoft-visio/

    • @oliviacamp9937
      @oliviacamp9937 6 років тому +2

      Yes, I agree the products you mentioned are good to use as Visio alternatives.. My point is if you use them for one or two years, they are cheap. But if you continue to use them for years, the cost will be higher as they charge you every year... For example, every year 96USD, then after 3 years is 288USD... Anyway, I think it's all about our consuming habit, whether you want to pay it little by little, or together in once...

    • @AverageLinuxUser
      @AverageLinuxUser  6 років тому

      I doubt running Windows or Mac will be cheaper in a long term. Edraw Max isn't cheap, I agree. But it depends on your use. If you need it everyday, it is very cheap. If you do some graphic work once a month, maybe using some open-source products is preferable for you.

    • @manizaeim
      @manizaeim 6 років тому

      no i didnt say so, I am 100% agree with you about ur opinion on EdRaw max, I am using linux since 2001 as main desktop started with redhat9, I am not microsoft user, and I dont use any single microsoft product, except Xbox one :)) lol and github(unfortunately microsoft bought it) but you can use office 360 on the web, I dont use any adobe software (as I just simply dont know how to use it) but if they develop linux version, it would be great. I like to see permium software on linux, simply just because the community will grow up and that woul be helpful. even Atlasian didnt release their sourcetree(git client) for Linux which is free, just because the linux desktop users community are not that large, and one of the problem is a companies such as microsoft or adobe they didnt release native software for linux, I really do admire Edraw for their effort, but 179 usd for NONE profitable usres is too high compare to other compatitors.
