I'm a new rider. I've been riding for only about a year. I've bought two Hondas and a Yamaha. KTM has never been on my radar because I just constantly hear bad things. Reliability issues, poor support, charging money to unlock features already in the bike, etc. It's all of their own making. If you want to protect the integrity of your brand, don't do things that harm the integrity of your brand! 🤷‍♂️

As a KTM owner, I’m obviously biased and make no apologies for it. However, I’m not too concerned with this news. At least there. Recognised the problem and are doing something about it. I think they will sort themselves out. I’ve had a 1290 Superduke r and now a 1290 super adventure s and both have been faultless and absolutely bags of fun. The super adventure is a brilliant all rounder.
What I find most sad about all this. Is some of the comments on UA-cam videos seemingly relishing in KTM’s problems and happy to see them go. These people seem to forget we are all bikers no matter what we ride and having more manufacturers making bikes ensures innovation is continuously pushing forward. Also KTM make some of the most unique bikes you can buy in looks, engines and the way they feel. Is my super adventure beautiful - absolutely not. If I wanted pure beauty I would fork out £40-50k on the new Norton RSV4 tbh. Saw it at motorcycle love and the detail, quality of materials and machining on every single little part was absolutely unbelievable. But…. I neither have £50k or unlimited funds to own multiple bikes. So a do or all adventure bike as your only bike makes perfect sense to me. And KTM already had me at the Superduke. I didn’t get it for years. In fact had a bit of a disdain for adventure bikes and what they were doing to the biker market and pushing out other models. However, the super adventure is a better bike overall than the Superduke in almost every way apart from the handling and brakes.
We should all be sad for the state of all motorcycle manufacturers as none of them are having a particularly good time besides the Japanese manufacturers and probably royal Enfield.

Whilst I dislike ktms as they look horrific in my opinion this will likely be the first of many Bike or Car companies to use this as they look to restructure to a world and global economy that changes and not for the better. It allows them time to cut costs where required and they’ll continue to trade with no impact to the consumer. Just be careful using such terminology as It may land you in hot water 👍. I reckon digital cameras are only just catching up. most Digital pictures just don't have the edge sharpness and don't have the same latitude as film. Ansell Adams squeezed out some pretty good pictures even earlier. All using film! How quaint. It's a bit of a bugbear for me at the moment where younger employees are of the mind that more modern is always better, more accurate etc (and this is to do with data processing). This has lead to a large waste of cash, software that doesn't do the job, but at least we get nicer graphics of of it. Sorry, rant over. Time to change over the LP and put more coal in the Arga. 😀

      @DirkGentley42 5 днів тому

Oddly enough there are never rules to effectively ban cars with massive engines doing just over 10 mpg. Electric cars are given tax breaks even though they are so heavy they do more road damage, and their "green" benefits are marginal - or at least unproven. I'd like to see a cradle to grave analysis on that personally.

I recently purchased an accessory loaded Yamaha MT07 on a mid23 plate. It has the low seat. I have a short 27 inch inside leg.
Trade in prices are rubbish, due to the dealer needs to make a profit.
So, after seeing you every week looking up good buys on Facebook marketplace. I decided to put my mint Honda Rebel 500 up for sale. Didn’t think it would sell, at this time of year.
But after 3 weeks it has a new owner. I gained £1250, over the trade in over.
I will miss the bike as It’s the only bike I can comfortably flat foot.
The new owner has got a great bike.

Freddie, last year I rode 5000+km around Morocco over 2.5 months with over half of that off-road, including two 160km waterless desert crossings. I saw countless numbers of big adventure bikes blasting along on the asphalt, often in a long line of a dozen or more, but only one motorcyclist riding off road (on a KTM). I talked to a few riders who were part of an organised tour who told me they were riding up to 400km daily. . It did make me feel at the time that they were all missing out and had exchanged quantity (of accumulated km) over quality of experience. So it was interesting to see that Sa'id chose that beautiful 1250 Bandit rather than a big adventure bike. BTW I was riding my Surly ECR bicycle.

Rego fees in NZ are high not because of environmental issues but due to our ACC (Accident Compensation Commission) fees, Motorcycle riders in essence cost more to the health service here when involved in an accident so previous Govt upped the ACC fees on motorcycle registrations, not saying the higher fees are right but don't assume it's related to environmental related issues. And some of these fees are used to fund rider training schemes, and other accident reduction schemes for motorcycles and to the health service here in theory.

Hi Freddie, New Zealander here. It's worth putting those bike registration charges into perspective. An average petrol powered car is around $100 per year. My 3L diesel is $170 per year. Annual bike charges of $800 is utter insanity. The fundamental reason/justification is accident and injury costs borne by other taxpayers.

KTMs reputation took a hit with the chocolate cams, but it has always been questionable at best. They also lost out on the “Long way round” deal when they refused to supply bikes to Ewan and Charlie, some say they didn’t trust even their own machines.
With regards to rider aids…none of my bikes have them, a 1998 Zx9r (138bhp), a FireBlade 954 (154bhp track bike) and a 2011 CB1000r (130bhp), I’ve never ridden a bike with them apart from my Mrs’ Speed 400 (which is a cracking little bike). You should really try a Trackday Sir, you would get such a thrill.

My son and I were talking about Long Way Round just the other day and wondering what happened to the KTM marketing guy who told Ewan that they didn't believe they'd make it, so didn't want to associate their brand with the trip. Now working in the basement, folding press releases and stuffing envelopes... The biggest wrong decision in the 90 year history of the company. Think of being that guy.
PS: It's fun to go back and watch the LWR episodes. The disorganization was embarrassing and the camera equipment is a laff. But adventure - amazing.

@ Not sure if I’d be riding if not for that show tbh. The sense of adventure was, for the time, quite amazing.
Regarding the assumption of they’d make it or not I’m not sure they would’ve on KTMs. Those GSs weren’t that powerful and with mr Boorman pulling wheelies and showing off I’m fairly sure they’d have crashed out worse than they did. The easy of maintenance on those air cooled boxers must’ve also helped when they decided to use them as submersibles in Siberia.

While I enjoy the gammony conspiracy talk the NZ-plan is actually quite sensible from what another commenter explained. Must keep the insurance rates down if nothing else?
See, the problem in countries with public health insurance is that we bikers crash a lot. That’s fine and all but someone has to foot the bill at the end of the day. Considering the cost of healthcare these days I’d dread the day we as a collective actually have to pay what we could potentially cost society as a whole.

The unintended consequence is that now younger people are wondering why the hell are bikes so huge and expensive?!!! 😂

Kiwi here. Sold my last bike a while ago and I felt relieved because I no longer had to pay the NZ regoistration which was TEN times more expensive than our cars. It is to do, apparently, with our accident compensation system whereby certain (nearly all) accidents are covered in terms of ongoing care. All good. However, motorcycle accidents are deemed the fault of the rider (basically), but you can play contact sports like rugby, and break any bone in your body, or go skiing and break any bone in your body, and it is deemed a no fault injury. I believe anyone who plays sports such as these should be held financially responsible for their injuries. Why should the rest of us pay for their decisions? Motorcycling on the other hand, soothes the soul and benefits the planet. We should be paid to ride.
