With more than 60,000 workers currently on ground, construction on NEOM regions THE LINE, Oxagon, Sindalah and Trojena is moving forward quickly.
Major infrastructure projects like roads, utilities and a hospital are already built, and significant milestones have been achieved since our last progress film was shared in January 2023.
We're now bolstered by large-scale investments, and supported by market-leading partners and talent from more than 90 countries.

Excellent point. It has that artificial sound to it. All legally safe and yet it says nothing definitive. There are no explanations for its grand ideas, nothing to show how it will be paid for, how it will be environmentally conscious (the construction alone will be the most polluting project in human history!).
NEOM ain't even got a brick laid; yet they waste time creating these AI-generated advertisements to pull people's chain. It'll probably never happen, and if it does: it will fall short of the original plan. Nevertheless, any intelligent person would never want to go there, it's "The Truman Show" waiting to happen. What ever dregs they manage to create of it, I'm not stepping a foot in.
@@thebabbler8867 There's so many issues I can think of right from the top of my head. It's a cool idea but I just wonder how many people this idea went through to even be considered fit for construction. Consider how long it takes, and how much material one 500m building needs to be built. Now extend that for another 170,000 meters lengthways. Plus it is 200m wide.
I just... there's no words for how overambitious this is. If they do manage to build something I estimate it will be 100, 150m at most, which is still very tall, but it will only stretch 50 kilometers before they decide to cancel due to a shortage of resources and funding. I will be very surprised of they even get that far

A suggestion to the engineers of The Line:
Kindly leave frequent gaps for passages under The Line so that the ecosystem, sand reptiles, animals, etc. can pass through without being blocked by this building. Otherwise they will be separated permanently on the two sides of the desert 😅. The flow of air, water, sand, fauna, etc. shouldn't be blocked for nature's sake...plz.

A suggestion to the engineers and designers of line. Can you please put Solar Powered windows on the outer wall. It would function as a window that people can look out of but would also have a special solar coating and tint touch up to allow for it to generate energy and reduce heat from the sun from getting in.
When it's 50c outside do you really think that will make any difference? How about awnings? How about stopping the sun from hitting the windows in the first place? That would be common sense, something this project has none of.

Two, no 12 year olds are working at McDonalds. That's child labor. The minimum working age is 16, and SOMETIMES 14 or 15.

I'd imagine it'd be very easy to spread diseases here if theres complex networks of clean air flowing through the building. If there's lot of cutoffs in the ventilation, and fresh, external air is coming in, there would need to be lots of filtration systems that would need to be constantly maintained. Either risk having a money pit, or hard to control pandemics. Lots of sacrifice as well as convenience involved in this project.
But why would it be a money pit? Air conditioning 50+C air???? It's like putting an air conditioner on the surface of the sun. It's just one of the many reasons this is the DUMBEST project ever conceived in the history of humanity. Just like their "tallest building in the world" hasn't been finished. There are so many failed SA projects. This is what happens when people lack common sense due to poor education.

It won't. Because it can't. If it could they would explain what they are really doing. They would explain how you cool a building in fierce heat sustainably. The intelligent thing to do is to build in a cooler environment. But as it's desert, good luck with that.

Making a linear city with massive single points of failure like those long subway lines, a vertical design that will leave the people on the bottoms effectively living in a sun-less ghetto, and problems with potential wind movement are among the MANY issues with this project and why it will never pan out.
Not to mention, what happens if the population grows past x million, or falls well below it? There will be large segments of the city effectively unused, and it will lead to big gaps in services, etc.

It's hard to believe the project will be a success but I don't think the existence of the massive building, Line, can harm the ecosystems. Even though the desert has its own ecosystem, it's not as complex or diverse as in the Amazon or Indonesia.

As for the environmental system, there will be no cars in line to prevent pollution, and there will be many ways to preserve the environment.

The secret of a successful project is not as much in building it, as is in maintaining it. I am curious how this will turn out.
170 km? They won't even build 1 km. People have no concept of the scale of this project. Imagine skyscrapers joined together (2 rows), without a break, for 170 km. It's just beyond absurd. In a place nobody wants to live in. Where there is no fresh water. Desalination requires a LOT of energy.

Would people actually want to live with some permanence in a glass line city ?
Issue of livability in the mid to long run revolves around ‘human comfort’.
If they were building Bedouin lifestyle homes, to me that would be a unique experience and with the warmth that Saudis exude, the most wonderful people in my experience, that would be a place to live with some permanence.
