Im an old man of 83 and fell in love with this guy the very first time i accidentally came across his program on radio! I also had the wonderful opportunity to attend his live shows three times! Once in St Paul with my teenage son. Once with my teenage granddaughter at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. And once when my youngest son surprised me as he took me to Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor for his show. Lucky me!!! Saw him live! BTW when my 75 year old mom passed we found 3 shoe boxes of cassette tapes. She recorded every single show! And labeled them. Thank you Garrison for all youve shared with us. And the quiet smiles we shared together every Saturday night!
I used to listen to Prairie Home companion on Saturdays on my truck radio when doing long distance transport in Australia in the 80s,I have rediscovered this on UA-cam.
What I wouldn’t give to have this show-with Garrison Keillor at its helm-back on air today. Yes, I am *ecstatic* to have found these precious videos on UA-cam to enjoy on-demand. Though it’s the audio that matters most.❤ We can find so many things online now that were once “lost.” And I’m quite grateful for that. But there was something so *anchoring and special to have a time in my week set aside for listening to this show.* It played Saturday afternoons and a repeat on Sunday evenings on KUOW in Seattle. I listened to both if I could. I had the pleasure of seeing the show live at Marymoore Park near Seattle one summer with my dad. I bought the tickets as a Father’s Day gift for us to see together. Dad was a Republican.🫢 And me… not so much.😉 I knew he’d love the show anyway. Dad was 100% Norwegian, born and raised on a farm outside the smallest “town” in North Dakota. And despite being an agnostic, he often attended the Lutheran service on Sunday *solely* for the humorous sermons by Pastor Ole!☺️ Most importantly… dad was a good, good man with a wicked smart sense of humor. We had a fantastic time.❤ I sure miss my dad. And I miss the show. What a great memory.❤Thank you for that, Mr Keillor.
God Bless you Sir, and thank you so very much for you and your team's amazing work through the years! I started listening in 1985 in Flagstaff Arizona! :)
I'm binge listening to a few of these videos on a Saturday afternoon while I'm cleaning my chicken coops. It's a wonderful companion and I'm feeling happy 😊
OMG I will never get tired of hearing his stories that remind us that life used to be simpler but that we can still learn from the past through his stories. Thank you Garrson for all the wonderful yrs of laughter and tears.
Hello Garrison - what a hoot - we missed you and your friends. The R's didn't succeed in the take down! Your pulse on society remains telling - and the joy of your poetic music will never end. Thank you! Please remember Ukraine as you search your soul for the next program. Music softens the blows to our conflicting world. My baby boomer friends and I used to get together on Saturday nights, and turn up the volume, which would send my friend's R spouse running while we women sipped our wine and danced up a storm - what lovely memories. (Of course, it was a Saturday night special for years).
The good days are really over, when u can use u r imagination, and enjoy, Ato Z humor political, ECT., But now u r considered a Nazi if u dare disagree. This man was the most wonderful entertainer, in this world. My non verbal autistic granddaughter loved his show. Thank you Garrison, for u r life's work. God bless you we miss you terribly.❤️🌹🐦💋✝️
I miss this show so much. Back in the mid-80's when I my parents were working at the American Embassy in Moscow, I would dutifully record the show on 120 minute cassette tapes and send it to them. It was passed around the entire American community and people were known to have apologized for being late to events due to them sitting in the car just so they could hear the end of the monologue. You brought a bit of home to a small community of isolated Americans. It was also funny how many Minnesotians we discovered.
I know what you mean but I just discover this treasure of yours as a German. This stuff is of the highest artistic oder. Guess what we miss is the existence of this culture.
I truly miss hearing A Prairie Home Companion and Garrison Keillor on Saturday nights. The memories are so dear, fixing dinner for my kids. He came to Columbia SC once. I went two hours early so I could get exactly the right seat in the auditorium where I had attended so many lecture classes when I was in business school.
'We're all liberals' , he said. Sorry, '... where all the women are strong, and all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average ...' that statement now makes you a conservative, good Sir.
Without GK, PHC had no point, unfunny, boring and just didn't take me anywhere; no mental journey. I gave it a chance, even tried to like it, but no cigar. He should have just laid it to rest. But thank God for UA-cam.
UA-cam, if you are listening, please pay attention to what is on your channel. In the middle of a good song or story you dump a 6 second commercial on us about every 7 minutes. Then you will wait 20 minutes or more for a double commercial which is fine, less frequent interruptions. This is a great show, it would be nice to get into the mood of it without frequent interruptions.
The great thing about Garrison is that he can make fun of him self, no other liberal does that. Think every late night television. Can't we laugh at each other.....
His funny fictional anecdote at 2.24.00 explains why the #MeToo lynch mob were soon to come after him. I love this man. And I hate lynch mobs like those after Kevin Spacey and Russell Brand. (Oh and I nearly forgot: the musical finale at 2.36.00 onwards is most moving… Dai Woosnam, Grimsby, UK)
Garrison Keillor is the Mark Twain of our time. Twain would have been "Me too" processed out as well in this day and age. We will develop our own samizdat system in this place until it changes again...
I ♥ PHC! He did not deserve to be swept up in the cancel culture! I have never agree with him politically but we don't all have to 💯 agree. I don't one hundred percent agree with any party nor politician but surely we all want to save our country & go back to the nation we were developed & founded to be, where we all live by the basic Christian values our founders believed in. That's why our best option, only option in Nov is to vote Trump! ✔💯🙏✌♥🇺🇸
Please, show a little more respect for the people of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, Uruguay and all the other countries in America by NOT using the name of our CONTINENT to refer to USA, which is only ONE of the MANY countries in America. Study a little History and you will see that "America" is NOT the name of one single country but that of a huge continent. Maybe once U.S.A. finally ceases to be the world´s main superpower, people might go back to using the word "America" in its original and true meaning. Christopher Columbus came to America for the first time in October 1492 and he later sailed back over here on three more occasions. On NONE of those FOUR trips did Columbus ever set foot on what is now US territory. Let me reiterate this: Columbus discovered America, came back to America three more times and never ever was in what is now USA. Then, Europeans gave this new CONTINENT a name: "America". Now..., what does this tell you about the real meaning of the name "America"? Did Columbus "discover America" without ever setting foot in America or is America the name of a huge and diverse continent, of which U.S.A. is only ONE of its many countries? Consider this: if France decided to call itself "United Provinces of Europe", would you then call France "Europe"? How do you think the people in the rest of Europe would react?

Listening to his song about his uncles and aunts my heart contracts... With those beautiful old hymns woven in.

I am transported back to elementary school.

I loved this show, kept me company like a good friend while on the road. The trick is to visualise the narrator as leslie nelson.
