I miss it too, but what's gone is gone . It hurts sometimes to realize that not everyone had it as good as my family did . The rise of the White Middle Class in the 50's and 60's had me thinking that things would keep getting better . It hurts to know my children won't have it as good as I did . I remember going to strkelines in Detroit with my father as an elementary student . I remember eating powdered eggs as part of the food the Union provided members to help us through the strike . Dad did some side labor pouring sidewalks to keep us from being evicted . @@MelissaR784
We are so blessed to have had our own Mark Twain or Will Rogers in our lifetime. Few artists could capture the magic of the every-day moment like Garrison Keillor.
@@jenmorricone4014 Interesting so I went to Wikipedia and looked at what is stated about that. He considers himself to be high-functioning autistic. I can get that; many of us who've lived through the time as he has have come upon some personal characteristics that weren't noticed when we were young that would fit current day diagnoses of some kind. We might have gotten some strange glances but soldiered through to find where we were productive citizens. He lives and performs from his "small world" in a flux with the larger one.
Listening in the dark to that wonderful voice, telling stories whose destination you cannot predict. So you have to pay attention and visualize the characters and the events. I grew up on radio, and have been blessed with the discovery of Garrison Keillor’s magic. This Ode to New York is outstanding. It sines in the dark. Thank you, mille fois.
I loved the way the audience joined in , they "felt the moment".... and kept the main melodies while Garrison did harmonies🎼 Very nice😊🌹 🇬🇧🌹🎄😊👍🇬🇧🦉 📖😊🇺🇲🦉🌹😊🇺🇲
This is the first time in ages, where I enjoyed listening to the entire presentation, without losing interest and concentration. It’s the wonderful stories- as he said- that are so memorable. He will be greatly missed one day and let’s hope he does live to 105, as he thinks he will. ❤
Saw Mr Keillor live in Ocean Grove NJ years ago….he had the audience in the palm of his hand. Signed programs after the show, he is as gracious as you could be.
Being from Iowa, I would like to take this time to say that what Garrison said about Iowa is absolutely spot on. We have been on a downward spiral for some years now and I don't see an end to it. Sorry.
At KCMO's Starlight Theater, I learned how trains jump into stories when Prairie Home Companion is recorded on the road. I also learned not to sing along through the whole intermission -- it's still the bathroom break!

Garrison's storytelling is just so compelling that I don't even pay attention to appearances. I think he looks alright though, esp. considering he had a stroke and his age.
A transvestite from Froom, invited a lesbian up to her room. They argued all night, over who had the right, to do what, with what, and to whom! Eugene Bouvier ( father) God bless you all who read this, and of course you who don't.
The South was and still are the Democrats. I still enjoyed/enjoy A Prairie Home Companion even if Garrison's politics and mine are in disagreement. It was proven that he was irreplaceable as the host. Do not misunderstand me, the Republicans are no better. All politicians are the same just some are more transparent with their hatred for the United States.
In the 80s I was a huge fan of PHC. I would try to listen, but my wife would ask endless questions, my young girls would talk unendlessly. I got get frustratied with all the talking 😢 I would sneak out to my VW Rabbit. I would lock the doors and turned the radio on to 😢PHC. That would last until the girls came out t knock on the window them thus wrecking my PHC lisening!
i knew a girl from paris a friend of my older sister who would attach herself to my face occasionally when my sister would leave the room like a shopvac then slap me if "we "were caught
This is a breath of fresh air in this present freak show of 2023.
Miss the America I once knew.

What a delight to get lost in this man's mental wanderings. Then we all get to sing together.
Wonderful comment. I'm not crying, you are!
@@auntieclara1811 I am....
Agreed.
Thank you Garrison you always make me feel warm and happy and most of the time you also make me laugh
I am a great fan of Mr. Keillor since the late 80's. One of the great storytellers and humorists of our time! Thank you.
We are so blessed to have had our own Mark Twain or Will Rogers in our lifetime. Few artists could capture the magic of the every-day moment like Garrison Keillor.
Well said Glen!
Its not just the US that is lucky. Any english speaking person would know GK is unique over multiple generations.
He is, among many other wonderful things, a fine example of how autism holds some hidden gifts.
@@jenmorricone4014 Didn't know he was autistic.

God Bless Garrison Keillor. He has been an inspiration to me since the early 1980's. Such a great part of our American story.
Same here.
Miss you so much.
Saturday evening just not the same anymore.
As a proud Englishman I love Garrison and the crowd singing America the Beautiful and the Beatles etc, lovely .
Fabulous...thanks for posting...a real pleasure...
I miss him on Saturday night.
Master of the unexpected turn of a phrase and twist of a tale! A keen reaper of nostalgia...
I haven't heard the three men and the fridge story for a LONG time. I'm glad GK told it, or I might have forgotten forever.
I missed him all these years. So happy to run into him now. I just followed him.
Sure glad I found this, thank you Garrison, love the rambling wit, so fun to follow.
Mr. Keillor, I so appreciate you and your talent for storytelling. Thank God for the gift He placed in you, it's been such a pleasure.

Garrison is a person with a lot to share, and we all love to hear him. Thanks for sharing Garrison,❣️😎
You are a blessing
An American treasure.

His smile is sweet and modest, as befits a Sanctified Brethren.
What a lovely man. Thank You for helping me laugh!
❤ Love Garrison Keillor!!!! TY!!! ❤
I shut my eyes--almost radio.
I will try that now.
This man and Jean Shepherd are the best storytellers.

Love the introduction poem. Born performer
Thank you. Loved the songs.
❤ thank you. Enjoy your show
Loved listening to Garrison Kelley's radio show like Paul Harvey a little
Stand by ... for news!
Thank you for bringing up those four words. And, of course the pause...in the middle. 😂
Incredible that he sang ALL the words to Matty Groves ( as I heard it.)
🐾🌏🥰💛❤️❄️
Just remarkable. His memory!
I think it’s horrific that his career was taken from him.
Wonderful
The refrigerator joke made me laugh so hard… because I thought the third man would be on the ground looking up… completely caught me off guard.

Oh how the mighty have fallen
I would love to hear him talk about the trump trails. And all the Gop crazyness of today.
This was 2016.
Does Kiellor tell all these stories from memory?
Delightful. We could do without the singing but otherwise delightful.
23:58 so I can come back to it.
This guy is about as close to a liberal as I get. Only decent thing on NPR . Great great story telling best in our time. In my opinion 🙏♥️🙏♥️
Lots of great things on NPR.
He ought to have kept his divisive politics to himself. He might not have found himself "Me tooed"
Even He, and Sadly, Me-Too'd into the Woke Obscurity.
He looks like a pitbull got it's face kicked in, but oh what a storyteller.

I hope someday soon I will hear the same words spoken about myself. 🙂
