Wonderful footage of areas I've been to many, many times. I have never seen the Schuylkill River so high much less all of the trails blocked by the water and debris. Thank you for the excellent birds eye view of boat house row and the drive. I'll stay clear until the ground is back to normal although no one can determine when that will be. Make sure you rinse off properly because I could hear the splashing in that awful sludge of water you were walking through. When this all over Philadelphians will have this footage to reflect back on. Again thank you for this wonderful documentary of one of Philadelphia's worst floods recorded.
Thanks for the video. I went down to falls bridge earlier to check it out but that was as far as I got. 5:17 University Barge Club is where I rowed out of in high school.
Thank u for your coverage, I was born in Philly but moved here to southern California years ago, most of my fam is still in Philly so I really appreciate your video dude!
Last night was a real disaster for so many. Thank you for documenting how bad it really is. Like someone else commented before, the news should hire you!
Mother Nature just doing her job. Culling the herd. We don't deserve this beautiful planet. She has put the hammer down. Rightfully so. All praises be to my esteemed Mother.
@Paul Anca So, where we did this all knowing, omnipresent, alpha and omega, here there and everywhere, all knowing super duper jesus Dude go to? You've got some serious mental problems if you believe that bible shit. I really feel for you but to each his/her own.
Nice job, Boathouse row has been weathering these storms as long as I can remember and I'm 79 in November. The Fairmount dam should be removed or a spillway added to control/lower the level up to Conshohocken. That dam was built when the canal boats needed deeper water, also the old abandoned water works needed it too. It looks nice but it dams the river so what going to happen above it?? Yep, flooding.
If you remove the dam, that will be the end of boathouse row and sculling on the Schuylkill. It's the dam that makes sculling possible- It adds a consistent depth to the river. The river would also become tidal in areas that are now non-tidal. You would have rocks and sandbars where none are now present. Think of the unintended consequences before making suggestions.
@@jm-bv1wh I did think about it B 4 I made the suggestion. I did not need to WRITE A BOOK here about all that would need to be done. So you can do some sculling folks up river live with constant flooding and destruction??!? If you could read or even comprehend the English written word I "ALSO" said "OR A SPILLWAY" could be "ADDED" to Control flooding. That way the river could be lowered only when severe weather forecasted. Boathouse row could be modified with adjustable boat launching areas when that is done from time to time. Plenty of other changes up river would also have to be made. "THINK" of others B 4 you selfishly think of only of "YOURSELF" and your sculling friends. Don't cry you could still do your Sculling!
@@christinec7892 Good point. I remember they dredged part of the Schuylkill in the 50's. Do you remember the artificial Island they created from the dredging? It was all Coal soot from the mines up river in Pottsville, etc. Myself and friends used to play on it. It was above the dam near boat house row.
Hey Philly Captain on this Thursday...Wow from last night's massive storm...Prayers, being ok and keeping safe to all..Thanks for sharing and keeping us updated...Stay safe out there, great day and TOODLES...
If the river is 100 yards across you need 300 yards each side sloped up to stop future floods. All rivers flood.. You raise the banks 300 yards both sides and it will never flood again..
The Most High is tired of all the killing in Philly so he flooded the city. As a result, there was no killing in the city Wednesday night. All Praises to The Most High
We need to harness these waters as the Romans did and move it to the Southwestern USA. Fill in all those 7 or 8 dried up sea beds out there that are a 1000 feet below sea level. Death Valley, fill it in. Why isn’t the area by the Art Museum manicured? Nothing’s manicured! This was once a champagne city. Not anymore.
I visited the Art Museum and surrounding area last week, and everything looked manicured to me. Maybe you're confusing natural landscape for unmanicured.
All rivers flood three times thier size. If its 10 feet deep then you either raise the banks 40 feet or three times its width with a slope. That's how rivers work.. No river ever has three times its mass even if it rained forever..
I hope everyone is safe. I saw how hard it was raining up In the northeast but I had no idea it was that bad. I had my police scanner on this morning and that when I heard about the flood.
7 JEhovah has sworn by the Glory of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works. 8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and all who dwell in it mourn? And all of it shall rise up like the light. And it shall overflow and sink like the Nile of Egypt. 9 And it shall be in that day, says the Lord Jehovah, I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the light of day. (Amos 8:7-9) 20 Like a drunkard the earth is staggering, staggering! And it rocks to and fro like a tree-hut! And its sins heavy on it; and it shall fall and not rise again. (Isaiah 24:17-23) 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars. And on the earth will be anxiety of nations with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men fainting from fear, and expecting those things which have come on the earth. For the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. 27 And then they shall see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 And when these things begin to happen, then look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption draws near. (Luke 21:25-28)

Cool video ...
This is crazy footage Captain, watched it a few times over the past week.
probably a super smart idea to get as close as possible.
This would be a super smart comment If something bad happened

Looks like top notch infrastructure planning and build to me.
Very sad to all the damage to that small community, I didn't see Boathouse Row before the flood, must have beautiful...
I sw in that river in 1972. Had to swim around the Refrigerators and abandoned cars. River road. Roxborough
Theres nothing more distinctive than a "Philly Accent"
Thanks for making this video bro I’m in the inner city so I don’t really get to see this damn this is bad 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Daggone Sly Stallone must be really heartbroken. he was born in NYC , did Rocky in Philly and CA have wildfires. whoa!

Thanks for posting. I was supposed to be out in this exact spot today (9/2/21). We were going to enjoy a beautiful day. Stay safe.

Might be a good idea not to expose your body to that water. In floods like this combined sewers can discharge raw sewage into the river.
Yes!
They're tough and drink raw sewage in Philly.
Hey bub thank you for the video I've moved three and a half hours North and miss the city and have been wondering what was going on thanks again

They need to finish dredging the Schuylkill and the Delaware

Sculling on the surekill today, Denied.
Hope you don’t have any cuts on your feet or anything. Walking through that water could get you a nasty infection. Be careful man
CRAZY .
The only thing we can do, is to wait for the water to recede and then clean up the mess. One day at a time.
Easier said than done, bruh these crises are manufactured by cern, nothing natural,Philadelphia was literally built on a swamp
Sad, looked like Niagara Falls

What a beautiful river but of course now we can’t live by them .. but I do love rivers🏞🦦

Woke up this AM in southeast PA/Chester County and we had hardly anything. Then learned about all of this. Such a shame. Sorry to hear.
You do have a great town. Looks great. Never new they were still on the USA..
crazy....
So sad to see this .its gonna take awhile to get back to normal ( if thats possible)..
Has anybody thought to clean debris caught in drainage ditches...maybe the water will recede somewhat?
Hurricane storm > drains of Philadelphia
I guess you don't understand the term, under water. a flooded floor.
