Born and raised in SW Philly. The only time that I remember any flooding like this was in 1972. This is worse, I lived at 33rd and Ridge back in 1979, and I remember walking, cycling, jogging around the east and west river drive. That flooding is right up the road from where I lived.
Vine Street pump broke down and Philadelphians tossing trash on road blocked the storm drains. Not cleaning streets, not maintaining a pump finally caught up with that dirty place.
Being born and raised here in Philly and remembering whilst a kid I would always see other cities and towns flooding but never in Philly. This is the first I’ve seen it this bad.

Baloney!! This has been going on in Manayunk since the Indians named it. The Fairmount dam at the Art Museum was put in in the 1800 to RAISE THE RIVER. That dam needs a release or spillway added to lower the river up to Flat Rock Dam in the Conshohocken area. Another spillway should be added there too.

Hey climate change nuts. Nothing new going on, I lived on Baker St. in Manayunk 1959/72. Worked in Bala-Cynwyd just across the Greenlane Bridge. Main Street would flood if we got a torrential thunder storm sometimes because of the rain coming down the streets from Roxborough.. 1972 Hurricane Agnes 49 years ago, was far , far worse. They should have taken Fairmount Dam at the old water works/art Museum out long ago or at least add a large spillway that open/closes as needed. It was put in in the 1800's to "RAISE THE RIVER" for canal traffic up to Flat rock Dam. Those old decerped, abandoned canal locks are still there in Manayunk. Obsolete when the R R was put through.
