Gotta be honest. Jacking the Jon Bois jazz music / graphics style while presenting a bunch of arbitrary and confusing stats and rating system made this feel like a bit like a cheap bootleg knockoff. Creativity can't be copied. The thing that made Jon Bois great was the way he could tell a story through numbers, not the way the video was decorated with any particular genre of music or visual effects. Those were just the icing on the cake. I understand admiring a creator, but imitation isn't flattery if you're just appropriating the aesthetic without the same attention to quality of substance. I hope he works on the script writing and finds his own style. I know making these videos take a lot of time and effort, and he's got some skill and taste.
I love putting this stat out there and here it is. In ALL 6 cups for Pittsburgh/Washington the winner faced the other at some point during that playoff run!
As a kings fan, 2014 was an absolute nail biter, and is definitely an underrated cup run. It felt like every series could’ve gone either way, and was incredible to watch.
Honestly if our team never wins again, it’s because we were so fucking spoiled in 2012 and especially 2014. Beat our 3 biggest rivals in game 7’s with a reverse sweep in one of those series and won the cup at home in double ot in a NY/LA series. Like can you even come up with a better script? It’s still hard to believe even nearly 10 years later.
@@SawiQiFX i'm less convinced the ducks would have beaten Chicago, just by how close that series was. it was basically decided by weird bounces and deflections. no planned attacks broke through for either side. my bigger concern against the ducks was "you can't lose the first matchup against them that we've ever gotten! you'll never get to live that down!" much like nobody will ever let the sharks live down the 3-0 blown series
As a fellow Capitals fan myself, I kind of wish you would someday consider making this style of video but covering all caps history. Their road to the lone Stanley Cup title is also poetic as they went from being the worst team ever and hoisting the Stanley Can in their first season to being a consistently great team and hoisting the stanley cup against the best expansion team ever.

Thank you for acknowledging how great the 2016 Pens were. People don't understand, they would skate circles around and completely crush even the 2017 team from a year later
Never had a stat put me to the verge of shedding a tear but seeing that the Capitals had the most killer instinct of all time in 2018 after knowing nothing but them choking my entire life put it all into perspective, what an inspiring team. I will say too that I think the Blues run the next year was underrated because every series had something iconic about it, and the fact that the blues somehow won in game 7 after blowing game 6 of the finals never gets the credit that it deserves
Fun fact: the 2009 Penguins and the 2011 Bruins are the only 2 Cup Winners to be down 2 games to none twice and win both series (both were also down 2-0 in the Final)
As far as being a caps fan goes, these past 15 years have been filled with so much fun but also so much simultaneous pain, I wanted to echo what another comment said about being #1 in Killer Instinct after being known to always choke in the playoffs and it seemed that would never change. the 2015 hawks run holds a special place as I was graduating high school that summer and watched several of the games at different friends houses. In hindsight I can't disagree that the fanfare didn't feel as loud as the previous 2, but there was an air where winning the cup kinda felt expected. You could also say that about the 2014 hawks before falling short to LA but that defeat just furthered fueled 2015.

Last year's run was awesome for me as an Avs fan. Colorado sports has a tendency in recent years to kill my spirits, but last Spring and Summer was the most hopeful I've ever been for Colorado sports as a whole. The Avs winning the Cup, the Rockies fast start to the season(although I knew they'd crash back down to Earth soon), the Nuggets despite their series loss to the Warriors, the Mammoth winning the NLL championship, and the Russell Wilson trade. That was an exciting four months of Colorado sports.
Nice to hear that you're a Caps fan too. Bro you have no idea how heartbreaking those two president trophy years were falling short to Pittsburgh. And your data only cemented my hatred for the Pens even more. We should have 2-3 cups man :(
@@natester2617 when you beat a team that had never won a playoff series beat a team on a goal that shouldn’t have counted beat a team that has a history for choking in big games and beat a team that had never been in the playoffs much less a cup final yeah that’s all luck
How are Pens fans going to complain about goals that shouldn't have counted when they literally won the cup on one of the worst early blown whistles in NHL history against the Preds lol.
I said this below but I’m counting the 2017 as one of the best, but for all the reasons you said. ‘They probably shouldn’t have won a Cup’ but they did. I remember when Letang got hurt everyone doubted they could even make a run to the ECF. The only way I can describe what they did is what the NL was known for; playing small ball. They manufactured goals and wins, putting together timely stretches of periods when it mattered most. They all bought in and played a total team game, plus Murray was great. In 2016 it felt like they had 3 top lines, but 2017 they scratched and clawed and showed their resilience. In fact, the threepeat was only derailed when a combination of running out of gas and Washington finally one upping their big brother and getting over that hump ended it. Pinholes I bet you’d admit that 2018 was ten times sweeter for beating the Pens en route Edit: and Mario did not sell his soul to the devil! He’s an angel! Lol 😂😂
I was getting ready to comment something very similar but you said it so much better than I was going to. The gauntlet of Bobrovsky, Holtby, Anderson, all of whom were having Dominant seasons, followed by Vezina winning Rinne felt very tense as Pens fan the entire time
Pleeeaaaaaase do a series recap of the Pens vs. Wings in ’09! Love your videos! It's rare to get such a thorough and detailed recap of these great historical moments from hockey creators, and the attention to detail does not go unnoticed (Go Pens)!
9:10 I remember watching that game, laughing my ass off when the jumbotron said "It's time for the 7th period stretch". Plus I was dumbfounded when I saw my 2012 Kings get last place lmao but I 100% agree with what you said about the 2014 Kings, that run should be 1st but the stats says otherwise. Edit: THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT, BEST RUN GOES TO 2014
@@gregcub3d agreed. It wasn’t just because they dominated those series, it was because their defense and goaltending were so good that it suffocated those teams. Like you said, good thing I’m a Kings fan.
oh my god finally i was literally thinking i was personally going to make my own bois-ian hockey video and re-learn how to edit just because i wanted it so bad. so thanks this saves me a lot of work.
a something to pile on as a kings fan, for the 2014 run. that was also the first time the kings had ever matched up against Anaheim in the playoffs, so beyond the obvious advancing to the next round, there is also the "you can't lose to your archrival the first time you match up in the playoffs". .
2015 I remember was such a weird season for the Hawks. That team was one of the unluckiest teams during the regular season it felt like, then suddenly caught every break you can ask for in the Playoffs. They say luck tends to even out, I guess that was the best time to have it even out.
The Blues run was the most unprecedented run in NHL History. They were last place to start the new year. And then they started winning, and winning, and winning. And winning some more and they wouldn’t stop.
I know! The team seemed to stumble into the playoffs and kept getting clutch performances from unsung heroes game after game. A far cry from the 2013 dominance, but they were consistently bet against and kept coming out on top. I figured the 2013 run would be higher considering it probably had the best cup winning twists ever. From limping into game 7 to hoisting the cup in less than a minute.
As a hawks fan the 2015 year was great basically because we were underdogs for the most part. The hockey world considered us favorites mostly for the intangibles (the core already having two cups) but in terms of on ice play, you could have given reasons why any team we played could have beaten us. But our defense playing out of their minds, Keith turning into an absolute god for two months, and the team genuinely willing itself to win was a lot of fun, compared to the 2010 and 2013 teams which were basically cup or bust. Sentimentally it ranks pretty well for us, but if you're ranking based on how good the team was no question it's in third place.
Awesome composition, great delivery, balanced and fair commentary. Caps are out of the running this year, Pens might be too. Let's see how it plays out for Boston this year. They will likely have a really tough opponent in rounds 2 and 3 to even make the finals. I don't think they dominate like last year's Avs did.

Just so entertaining. Its always a treat to see a new vid on the sub feed!
Oh shit, this is awesome, and reminds me of the older Dorktown videos. Nice editing and great content. Have a sub my friend.
GO AVS GO!
Pinholes I bet you’d admit that 2018 was ten times sweeter for beating the Pens en route
Edit: and Mario did not sell his soul to the devil!
It's rare to get such a thorough and detailed recap of these great historical moments from hockey creators, and the attention to detail does not go unnoticed (Go Pens)!
ive never watched a hockey game in my life but you've convinced me
this is incredibly well made
My guy hit the UA-cam algorithm. Great vid
This was super hecking wonderful! Thank you for the amazing video!
Great video! Excited for Part 2 cause my homestate boys were on the losers side back in 2012.
God last year was a dream as an Avs fan we were so good
Yeah the Jon bois vibes are amazing. But you’ve put your own touch to it. Well done
Edit: THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT, BEST RUN GOES TO 2014
i mean if you weren't/aren't a kings fan, 2012 was pretty boring
thank goodness I'm a kings fan
I watched the Columbus Tampa game from about halfway through the third, and all the way to the end. It was crazy!
@@gregcub3d agreed. It wasn’t just because they dominated those series, it was because their defense and goaltending were so good that it suffocated those teams. Like you said, good thing I’m a Kings fan.
This was a very good video, I’m excited to see more!
dude i love your videos, keep it up, the type of stats and presentation you have is unmatched
Game one and game five of that 2017 series against Pittsburgh still haunts me to an extent.
And then that game seven. That awful, terrible game seven.
But they won game five
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for shouting out Crawford
i love the 2022 avs! great video!
great content 🔥
Just in love with the alot of those finals surprised me
As a hawks fan 2015 was my favorite considering they won at home Keith was just a unit
oh my god finally i was literally thinking i was personally going to make my own bois-ian hockey video and re-learn how to edit just because i wanted it so bad. so thanks this saves me a lot of work.
Glad I could help lol :)
a something to pile on as a kings fan, for the 2014 run. that was also the first time the kings had ever matched up against Anaheim in the playoffs, so beyond the obvious advancing to the next round, there is also the "you can't lose to your archrival the first time you match up in the playoffs". .
2015 I remember was such a weird season for the Hawks. That team was one of the unluckiest teams during the regular season it felt like, then suddenly caught every break you can ask for in the Playoffs. They say luck tends to even out, I guess that was the best time to have it even out.
I'm not a Bruins fan but Tim Thomas leading that 2011 Bruins team was so F'ing awesome. One of the most dominant 4 year stretch by any goalie ever
Just found you, you're a mathematic sociopath. And I love it 😂 Dude's like "let's do math for fun!"
Wish you could do something like this for like 1985-2000 or 1990-2005
The Blues run was the most unprecedented run in NHL History. They were last place to start the new year. And then they started winning, and winning, and winning. And winning some more and they wouldn’t stop.
Quality content as per usual
Avs being alone in the total dominance corner is hilarious man, it's definitely how I remember them winning that cup, they just ran over everyone
I still believe the 2015 Hawks run was the most fun playoff run I've ever seen and no amount of math can change my mind lol
All I can do is wait for the loser part :(
Ooh, which team are you waiting on?
@@PinholesGraham Dallas is a very interesting one considering they played the most games ever in a finals run only to lose, which is so unfortunate.
awsome video! cant wait for the runner up video and what you say about the 2021 habs haha
Excellent video and graphics.
Awesome composition, great delivery, balanced and fair commentary. Caps are out of the running this year, Pens might be too.
Let's see how it plays out for Boston this year. They will likely have a really tough opponent in rounds 2 and 3 to even make the finals. I don't think they dominate like last year's Avs did.
dude these videos are so well made, you’ve earned a sub from me 👍🏻
Can’t wait to watch the losers video, still feel bad for the 2011 Canucks
