What's crazy is anorexia in particular usually starts in middle school!! I was surprised to learn that but it has a lot to do with them starting puberty.
I volunteer at a crisis hotline and there’s an alarming number of middle schoolers and high schoolers who reach out because they are struggling and thinking about suicide.

It honestly worries me a bit because i think kids should be given the freedom to have fun and not have to worry about the problems of the world for as long as possible. So as cool as it is to see such smart and thoughtful kids, part of me is sympathetic over the possibility that because they are being taught so many things about the world, they might be losing a lot of their ability to be carefree and enjoy their childhood because of the problems of the world that they are made to learn about. They might be worrying unnecessarily about things that otherwise wouldn't have effected them until later. Ex. it seemed like all of the kids had their own things that were weighing on them in some ways and burdening them. Some when it came to thinking about death, some when thinking about losing friends, some when thinking about growing up etc and as much as these are things people need to learn and struggle with in order to grow I do worry that we as a society might be trying make them learn it from too young of an age and burdening them unnecessarily at the possible cost of their innocence and enjoyment of those years.

Talking physically, boys are indeed stronger than girls on average, like one of the girls say it does not depend on gender, it depends on the individual, but on average, boys are physically stronger. Idk on other aspect, i'd say they are equal, and Jubilee obv didn't mention that, but like again, the other girl said, their volleyball team crushed the boys' team many times, but that is just her one experience, there's a reason men and women dont play most sports together, a reason all the male records for most sport is better than females. And as the other boy said, 1 girl he knows can fight half of his friends, but that is again 1 example of his, I'm sure all half of those boys who she can fight would beat 90% of the rest of the girls if not all. So physically, boys will always be better than girls on the same level. That is just natural and nothing wrong about it. Both have strengths and weaknesses in different fields EDIT: now, if someone says I can't fight a female wrestler or boxer, ofc I cant but all of the men in that field can fight all the women, or 95% of them at least. And I can fight all the girls Ihave in my class, so in the same level, boys are physically stronger than girls.

They’re not genetically stronger, they just have bigger muscles and can build it faster because of the higher testosterone they have but in long term survival and health women are stronger. @@alimurtaza6318 There is no right and wrong when it comes to sexuality and it's not harmful to label yourself at that age, sexuality is fluid, you can grow up and realize thats not what you feel anymore and thats ok. I knew my sexuality at 13 but suppressed it and didn't come out for years because of heteronormativity.
Give it time. Once they enter college, shave their heads, add a septum piercing and start handing out socialist part leaflets they'll be screaming at anyone who disagrees.

I think Gordon was speaking about physical strength, which is fair. Idk if this age group is too young to learn this but physical strength is also on a individual spectrum. In terms of mental, emotion strength, I don’t think a gender takes on this better than another. This group is actually so well-spoken,respectful and knowledgeable than what I’ve come across in my work with teens. Props to them👏🏽👏🏽

This allows for more empathy but this clouds logical thinking. Yeah when one of the girls said that they crush boys in volleyball, i think she thinks that both genders are as physically strong (which is obviously untrue, girls start puberty sooner so theres those few years where the girls are stronger physically, but when boys hit puberty it completely changes.)

I think what Gordon meant about it being easier to define yourself as straight was that we live in a heteronormative society and since a lot of us are socialized to be heterosexual, if you are heterosexual there is not a lot of resistance

@@chumasande I disagree a little, at the end of the day we have to remember that we are "animals", our reproduction method goes as "male impregnates female to make more males and females", not "male impregnates male" or "male impregantes himself", and this has been since pretty much our most older ancestor. Of course no system is perfect, even more natural systems, so there is going to be "deviations", individuals that because of something or someone managed to "leave the path", homosexuality didn't just start a decade ago, for example, there are records of homosexuality in the ancient greeks (and i'm pretty sure even before that), going from barely tolerated to accepted and incentivized in some places, one could even say that this was also thanks to philosophy, because people were activaly questioning everything around them, even the natural order of things. Also one more thing is that leaving this "path" will also have it's negatives, for example if you are homosexual, you can't make a child with your desired partner, i mean, you can do it (adoption, surrogacy), but in the natural way or the child having both genes, it's impossible, that's pretty much nature telling us that "that is not what i meant guys". I don't think homosexuality/bisexuality/whatever is a bad thing, but what i can say it's that it's not a "social construct", if tomorrow everyone became homosexual, there would be no more humans after us.

I love how Gordon was very honest and transparent about what he believed in but also was able to hear other opinions and listen. We should all be like Gordon with our beliefs: strong in them but willing to hear others out and listen.

For real.. I heard kolby talking about how he viewed sexual orientation, how everyone has their own journey, and he has to figure out where he is… and it really had me in awe. As a kid the thought of being anything other than straight was an abnormal thought to me. Looking at this I’m seeing this next generation is gonna be full of more open minded, less discriminatory people. When I was a kid everyone seemed super closed minded and had seemed to have more prejudices towards the people around them. These kids seem to treat everyone around them with equal respect and it’s super heartwarming to see. I’m excited to see what this world will become by the time I’m grown up.

I'm so sorry for what Kolby went through. The south is a really scary place. I know that because I live in north Texas. There was a case in my hometown where a middle school aged black boy was severely bullied, and that was the case that made my school district finally care about bullying.
I have a 15 year old son and 12 year old daughter. It pretty strange to me how well adjusted they are compared to how I was. I didn't really get into politics until my mid 20s. My son just collected signature for state level candidate and my daughter wants me to "accompany" her to a protest. The younger generations had to grow up faster with all that's going on and it saddens me but also gives me so much hope. Shine little ones.

one thing that I don't fully agree with about questioning male and female biological processes, is they only talk about periods. I am not hating or saying that females go through the same thing that men do( I think females have a harder time through their periods) but they should ask the females how much they know about male cycles and daily things that men have to deal with. When the kids started talking about their fear of “aging”, “more responsibilities” and growing out of their “golden years”, I could completely relate. I felt the exact same at that age because of what adults around me were telling me. I had a fear of growing up because I thought my life would be over at 18. Obviously, the taller kids are probably in 8th grade while the smaller ones are in the 6th. During the adolescent years, a one-year age difference alone can be huge. So not all of them are 12. I'm so glad Owen said what he said on the topic of sexuality. I myself knew when I was in kindergarten, that what I felt for some of my male friends wasn't simply friendship. It was attraction. Being 33 now, I really wish I had the resources and representation to have known, because the churches made us feel like our lives were essentially over even for thinking of it. Obviously there's no need to act on it, but knowing is so helpful from the perspective of navigating life as a youth.

I agree that men are much stronger than women physically on average however the question was not limited to only physical strength. Strength comes in many forms like emotionally and physically.
I love how grounded and practical Gordon is with most of his opinions. Hanadie has so much potential and is already harnessing it, she will go very far in whatever she puts her mind to. It's also nice to hear the boys showing a shift from the typical male bravado that society sometimes pushes us to accept. Social media is certainly having a big impact, but I'd argue that it's a really negative one. People are now increasingly insecure and even when it comes to social issues it tends to be about validating themselves more than other people or just trying to argue with one another rather than listening to each other. Be sceptical over social movements because they're not what they pretend to be. That's not to mention the creeps that are actively targeting the young. I also think people need to be VERY careful about posting themselves and their life online. You can't erase something permanently once you've posted it and with cancel culture people are willing to dig up something you've said in the past that is inappropriate even for things that weren't considered so bad at the time. Personally I'd recommend not using your real name or posting pics of yourself online at all.
All of them are VERY articulate and well spoken for their age, but Owen’s vocabulary and demeanor are SO advanced. That kid is clearly wildly intelligent. He’s going places. (Also I feel like Natalie is not getting enough credit, she was wonderful as well :)
In the question “are boys stronger than girls” it was painful (despite them being middle schoolers) to see them not bring up testosterone, which promotes a (correct me if I’m wrong) 5% muscle increase in boys. So technically boys are stronger, but I loved how they said that it just matters about what you do with your life and if you work out or not, beautiful.

There are some things you shouldn't think about at that age
It honestly worries me a bit because i think kids should be given the freedom to have fun and not have to worry about the problems of the world for as long as possible. So as cool as it is to see such smart and thoughtful kids, part of me is sympathetic over the possibility that because they are being taught so many things about the world, they might be losing a lot of their ability to be carefree and enjoy their childhood because of the problems of the world that they are made to learn about. They might be worrying unnecessarily about things that otherwise wouldn't have effected them until later.
Ex. it seemed like all of the kids had their own things that were weighing on them in some ways and burdening them. Some when it came to thinking about death, some when thinking about losing friends, some when thinking about growing up etc and as much as these are things people need to learn and struggle with in order to grow I do worry that we as a society might be trying make them learn it from too young of an age and burdening them unnecessarily at the possible cost of their innocence and enjoyment of those years.

but tbh when they say gender doesn't matter in terms of who is stronger, they are indeed wrong i think. Talking physically, boys are indeed stronger than girls on average, like one of the girls say it does not depend on gender, it depends on the individual, but on average, boys are physically stronger. Idk on other aspect, i'd say they are equal, and Jubilee obv didn't mention that, but like again, the other girl said, their volleyball team crushed the boys' team many times, but that is just her one experience, there's a reason men and women dont play most sports together, a reason all the male records for most sport is better than females. And as the other boy said, 1 girl he knows can fight half of his friends, but that is again 1 example of his, I'm sure all half of those boys who she can fight would beat 90% of the rest of the girls if not all. So physically, boys will always be better than girls on the same level. That is just natural and nothing wrong about it. Both have strengths and weaknesses in different fields
EDIT: now, if someone says I can't fight a female wrestler or boxer, ofc I cant but all of the men in that field can fight all the women, or 95% of them at least. And I can fight all the girls Ihave in my class, so in the same level, boys are physically stronger than girls.

I think Gordon was speaking about physical strength, which is fair. Idk if this age group is too young to learn this but physical strength is also on a individual spectrum. In terms of mental, emotion strength, I don’t think a gender takes on this better than another. I think what Gordon meant about it being easier to define yourself as straight was that we live in a heteronormative society and since a lot of us are socialized to be heterosexual, if you are heterosexual there is not a lot of resistance

@@chumasande I disagree a little, at the end of the day we have to remember that we are "animals", our reproduction method goes as "male impregnates female to make more males and females", not "male impregnates male" or "male impregantes himself", and this has been since pretty much our most older ancestor.
Of course no system is perfect, even more natural systems, so there is going to be "deviations", individuals that because of something or someone managed to "leave the path", homosexuality didn't just start a decade ago, for example, there are records of homosexuality in the ancient greeks (and i'm pretty sure even before that), going from barely tolerated to accepted and incentivized in some places, one could even say that this was also thanks to philosophy, because people were activaly questioning everything around them, even the natural order of things.
Also one more thing is that leaving this "path" will also have it's negatives, for example if you are homosexual, you can't make a child with your desired partner, i mean, you can do it (adoption, surrogacy), but in the natural way or the child having both genes, it's impossible, that's pretty much nature telling us that "that is not what i meant guys".
I don't think homosexuality/bisexuality/whatever is a bad thing, but what i can say it's that it's not a "social construct", if tomorrow everyone became homosexual, there would be no more humans after us.

For real.. I heard kolby talking about how he viewed sexual orientation, how everyone has their own journey, and he has to figure out where he is… and it really had me in awe. As a kid the thought of being anything other than straight was an abnormal thought to me. Looking at this I’m seeing this next generation is gonna be full of more open minded, less discriminatory people. When I was a kid everyone seemed super closed minded and had seemed to have more prejudices towards the people around them. These kids seem to treat everyone around them with equal respect and it’s super heartwarming to see. I’m excited to see what this world will become by the time I’m grown up.

When the kids started talking about their fear of “aging”, “more responsibilities” and growing out of their “golden years”, I could completely relate. I felt the exact same at that age because of what adults around me were telling me. I had a fear of growing up because I thought my life would be over at 18. I thought the decisions I made at that age (like choosing a career path) would be permanent and if I mess up one little thing, my life would be over. Adults don’t realize how much what they say and do really affects kids. This includes parents and teachers.

I'm so glad Owen said what he said on the topic of sexuality. I myself knew when I was in kindergarten, that what I felt for some of my male friends wasn't simply friendship. It was attraction. Being 33 now, I really wish I had the resources and representation to have known, because the churches made us feel like our lives were essentially over even for thinking of it. Obviously there's no need to act on it, but knowing is so helpful from the perspective of navigating life as a youth.

I’m a lesbian, and my first crush was on a girl when I was in the 1st grade. I didn’t really understand what it meant, the way I defined it was “I want to hug girls and play with boys” and that sentiment never changed, apart from the fact that I now understand what romance is lol. I agree that men are much stronger than women physically on average however the question was not limited to only physical strength. Strength comes in many forms like emotionally and physically.
I love how grounded and practical Gordon is with most of his opinions. Hanadie has so much potential and is already harnessing it, she will go very far in whatever she puts her mind to. It's also nice to hear the boys showing a shift from the typical male bravado that society sometimes pushes us to accept. Realizing that some of these topics need to be talked about is such an important aspect of a healthy upbringing
Instead of the "typical male bravado" you speak of, we now have young boys that act and appear more feminine, and physically weak. I wouldn't say that's the best trade.

@@keytlenmartinez8466 But the emotions some of them are dealing with is definitely depressing. I'm a middle schooler and I don't really experience these things which is very fortunate for me. But I understand them and what they feel because I can usually understand people's emotions kinda well and it's also because I'm around the age of all of them. Also, most of the kids in my school, have very similar personalities of these kids so these kinds of personalities and traits are with a ton of teens and young people.

Hanadie is based, got a lot of respect for kids that realize you'll regret rushing your childhood. Being an adult is the last thing you should strive for before you've really grown up yet.

Social media has definitely pushed these conversations forward for younger generations. I remember thinking these things bc of the things on social media plus we can learn so much.

Social media is certainly having a big impact, but I'd argue that it's a really negative one. People are now increasingly insecure and even when it comes to social issues it tends to be about validating themselves more than other people or just trying to argue with one another rather than listening to each other. Be sceptical over social movements because they're not what they pretend to be. That's not to mention the creeps that are actively targeting the young.
I also think people need to be VERY careful about posting themselves and their life online. You can't erase something permanently once you've posted it and with cancel culture people are willing to dig up something you've said in the past that is inappropriate even for things that weren't considered so bad at the time. Personally I'd recommend not using your real name or posting pics of yourself online at all.

All of them are VERY articulate and well spoken for their age, but Owen’s vocabulary and demeanor are SO advanced. That kid is clearly wildly intelligent. He’s going places.

In the question “are boys stronger than girls” it was painful (despite them being middle schoolers) to see them not bring up testosterone, which promotes a (correct me if I’m wrong) 5% muscle increase in boys. So technically boys are stronger, but I loved how they said that it just matters about what you do with your life and if you work out or not, beautiful.

@@JonasGutenwald-yj8th not true. the age at which kids of both sexes enter puberty has been steadily decreasing over the decades, so at this point middle-school aged boys (7th and 8th grade mostly) are decently developed and stronger than the girls their age.
