There is no reason to have hum in a clean channel these days, period.

We also don't know all the variables. Like is his power coming in clean, is there emf, does he have a quiet signal going into the Amp etc. He didn't mention at the beginning any of these things. Also supposedly more than one Amp he's tested has hummed. Maybe the problem is not with the amps?

I will say that a lot of amp designers at least from my knowledge when they have a dual channel amp, most of the time it's not one channel shutting off going to the other, but rather both are present in the circuit if that makes sense , just alternating. That could attribute to some hum.

Nice demo. I'm glad to see it's not just a promotional review, so thank you for that. I felt that same way with the Engl inferno. It sounded really good, but in my head, I am going through all the other amps I own that can do the same thing that the Inferno can. Nothing sounded bad, but nothing unique about it. Unlike say the new Badcat Lynx. I really love that amp. Even though it broke down on me the first 2 hours, I unboxed it, and it was a over heating issue that I had to get my amp tech to fix. Other than that awesome amp. I think I will sit and wait until I actually get to try it when I go to the U.S. again, anyway great overview and killer playing.

The last 10 minutes of the video is giving me hope. I know we all had very high expectations for this amp and I loved the tone you got there at the end. Sounded excellent in the mix too. I’m excited for the comparison video. WHAT US CAUSING THE FREAKIN HUM??

    • @TONEWARSgearshow
      @TONEWARSgearshow  7 місяців тому +2

Thanks for commenting, yeah, the last few minutes of the video I really got this thing dialed in a lot better in my opinion. I thought it started sounding a lot better.
Hopefully tomorrow, I can dial it in further and figure some more things out with it. the problem is, it's a very simple amp, there's no switches or special features, so dalling in the tone is gonna be a more straightforward approach and you get what you get for the most part.
Regarding the hum, yeah, it's really annoying to be honest with you. there's absolutely no excuse for that, especially on the clean channel.

So it has three very good sounding and usable channels. If you’re a blues guy like me the ODS channel is really cool. The high gain channel sounds fantastic boosted. I was wondering what was going to be disappointing about an amp with a sub $2k price tag , for me the hum is a deal breaker. If they fix it I’ll buy one, until then I’ll wait.

Great review mate, seems like a great amp. If you can swing it (hint hint Motor City) maybe throw the PRS 50w Archon in there when comparing to the MT15, would be interesting to see what differences you can discover, and what the pricepoint value of each is.

You make every amp sound good. Fair and thorough demo. After the ENGL SE-ENGL Savage-Stealth 100 shootout, I'm not sure any amp can stack up to that range of brutality and versatility. The MT isn't quite in that class, for me at any rate. Still, in today's market, and for what you get, it's reasonably priced.

I was super excited for this amp to come out. Just seems somewhat meh. Clean crunch then high gain. The stealth can do clean and crunch on the first channel. Then you have heavy (blue) and heavy AF (red) channels. It does sound good. I’m not running out the door to buy it. Can’t wait to see it against the stealth and maybe the engl. Awesome video as always.

    • @Hadouken5150

I agree. The lead channel on the MT100 sounds pretty good. I think I’d get some good use out of that channel. But I already own three of the top dogs of high gain (6505+, 5150 stealth 100w and Engl savage 120 MKII). I can cover all grounds with what I already have. To be honest I feel like I don’t even need the Engl. I’m more of a 5150 guy.

It’s two bad that the amp doesn’t offer midi, or the option to run 2 of the 3 amps together in stereo.
It would be really cool to be able to place a rat or fuzz pedal in front of the clean channel, and able to run it in stereo with either channel 2 or 3.

My complaint about the Archon 100, was the hum and noise/hum when the loop was engaged, even after it was supposedly fixed. That was annoying that in this day and age, they couldn't make an amp without hum and a noisy loop.
Disappointed it's made overseas. Oh well.

Id say the hum is going to be a wiring issue, i seen a channel where someone took the MT15 appart and changed and rerouted some cables to fix the problem and i think later 15s didn't have the hum.
But you would think that they would have solved that issue on version 2 so to speak
Im also surprised the range on the nobs are quite narrow. I know mark wanted it to be set so straight up would be a great starting point but it looks like it was done in away to where you couldn't screwup the tone so to speak. Sort of made it dummy proof 😂😂

ok so I did some more testing. And I was getting a hum on over drive and lead channels but not clean. Clean has no hum even cranked. Overdrive starts humming when gain is 75% or more, Lead starts 60%. and this is with guitar volume turned off. It changes when I move the amp around the room. I wonder if it picking up something in the room? It does not go away with Gates or filters. Maybe I need some kind of power filter, if thats a thing. I usually have the gain at 1/2 or lower, so it fine. but would like to figure out what it is.
