    Lyrics:
    I went out walking
    Through streets paved with gold
    Lifted some stones
    Saw the skin and bones
Of a city without a soul
    I went out walking
    Under an atomic sky
    Where the ground won't turn
    And the rain it burns
Like the tears when I said goodbye
    Yeah I went with nothing
Nothing but the thought of you
    I went wandering
    I went drifting
    Through the capitals of tin
    Where men can't walk
    Or freely talk
And sons turn their fathers in
I stopped outside a church house
Where the citizens like to sit
They say they want the kingdom
But they don't want God in it
    I went out riding
    Down that old eight lane
I passed by a thousand signs
    Looking for my own name
    I went with nothing
But the thought you'd be there too
    Looking for you
    I went out there
    In search of experience
    To taste and to touch
    And to feel as much
    As a man can
    Before he repents
    I went out searching
    Looking for one good man
A spirit who would not bend or break
Who would sit at his father's right hand
    I went out walking
With a bible and a gun
The word of God lay heavy on my heart
I was sure I was the one
Now Jesus, don't you wait up
    Jesus, I'll be home soon
Yeah I went out for the papers
Told her I'd be back by noon
    Yeah I left with nothing
But the thought you'd be there too
    Looking for you
    Yeah I left with nothing
Nothing but the thought of you
    I went wandering

‘They say they want the Kingdom,
but they don’t want God in it’.
    That is something. Brilliant words.

We miss you, good man. He didn't hate. My old man, born in Alabama lived through the Great Depression, fought the Japanese in WWII, came home with the idea, he fought for everyone. Taught me not to hate. I'm not religious. I'm not "forgiven." I'm just responsible for my own actions. But I dig what Johnny was saying, here.

Yes that term is used quite often. The good news is apocalypse is Greek for Revelation.

The man bared his soul completely when he sang. He compellingly reminds us of our dignity as human beings as well. The picture of him singing at Folsom is iconic. That's why they called him the man in black.

    Johnny Cash & U2 - The Wanderer.

I wonder if that is life we are born in free will, but soon we graduate to a jail of our own concoction, constrained by a moment by our own limitation but it's really the sticks and stones of other that knock us of our path. Maybe god loved his son so much he gave him the keys to heaven for a minute it hurt and cut his skin his stain left on the cross, but he lives in the glory for many lifetimes and lifetimes still. Not seen, not told by voice but the heart will always know what lies beyond worldly eyes. For what is worldly has past by, and falls to repetition, it stands our future and our loves to create.

That's daft. U2's first commercial success was in 1980. You don't need to be a contemporary to "get" Johnny Cash. Besides, this is a pure pop song, complete with pop synths. It doesn't get more mainstream. Just enjoy it for what it is: fun, pop music with great lyrics and pop sensibilities.
