by the way, pardon the differences in lighting and the simpler editing in this video... I was feeling under the weather while working on it 🤒. I had to record in pieces and rushed the editing at the end. regardless, I hope you find the video helpful, and I hope you're staying well amid the changing weather!

Thank you for sharing Febby. I agree with you, there are many challenges that newcomers must deal with and research well before coming to Canada. Otherwise, they will regret it. Many people who come to study and do co-op work have decided to move to the U.S. or return home. Housing is not just a major issue for newcomers but also for native Canadian and long-term immigrants too.

    Great perspectives. Two comments:
Point #1: housing issue not just confined to large cities. An illuminating data-point: on a recent visit to my hometown (small town Nova Scotia) - a place with several hotels, motels, cottage rentals and many AirBnBs - I could find only 2 available rooms at any price point. And this during traditional off-season! Was told by locals that available accommodation was taken up by students attending universities and colleges across the region as well as sponsored refugees and new immigrants. Nothing against any of the above: just a statement of fact.
    2) look to the ‘Canadian Experience’ requirement as a potential cause. I’ve covered this in comments on previous videos so won’t repeat here.
    Thanks for the content!

    Good observations...
Point 1 is a little scary - owning a home in these two popular Canadian cities seems like an unattainable dream. The only other option is to move elsewhere cheaper, such as the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec or the Prairies for cheaper homes. Personally I'm looking at this option because I don't mind living in places like St John's or Halifax with my wife.
Point 2 I'm not so sure if Statcan's data is talking about all immigrants - including PRs and asylum seekers, because the latter will definitely have a lot on their minds let alone work. But that's a high percentage indeed. I think part of the problem is that Canada makes it very hard for qualified migrants (eg. doctors, nurses) to work here because they have to spend time and money to requalify to work. That obviously makes countries like Australia and New Zealand a better and less stressful place for these migrants to move to.
Point 3: Heard about crumbling healthcare a lot but haven't seen the evidence up close and that's probably true. Singapore's own healthcare system where I'm from) is also crumbling for a while and I've personally experienced this myself. Looks like I didn't trade it for anything worse.
Point 4: 40 degrees and above? Really! Where? That's extremely high and I associate those temperatures with countries in the Middle East.and the Indian subcontinent. I think though that winter you can prepare for, just keep layering.
Definitely agree with you Canada is still a lot better than many countries in the world - I guess this is why immigrants want to come and build a life here. And that's good for everyone where multiculturalism is concerned (I don't think Singapore's even at that level). Love it here, it will be hard to say goodbye if I'm forced to.

One hopes its just a difficult point of a cycle, and things will improve soon. Anyhow, talking is around some of the places you like might make a good video, too, I speculate. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

Does Singapore allow dual citizenship? I'm asking since you are a Singaporean? I'm guessing you want to be a Canadian citizen?

Perceptive - as always. Couple of small points: health care is a bit of a mess as it has to meet political imperatives. This has resulted - at least in the jurisdiction I live in - in a large and unwieldy administrative burden supporting/subverting the health care system. Housing - I think we look at housing at a point in time, rather than long term processes. This doesn't really affect the personal experiences of recent immigrants except that they insert themselves into the market at a specific time. And finally, the weather - we do get hot periods but many parts of the country don't have air conditioning.

As a canadian, it's kind of you to call canada safe and liberal. But reality says it is neither, I would be wary moving to certain places if you are a visible minority - right wing politics mimic the USA here too.

I never shy away from criticizing and complaining about things that I want to see improve in my beautiful and freezing cold country. But even I wouldn't go as far as saying Canada is neither safe nor liberal.
It's not just the right wing American politics that's copied here. We also got fools mimicking far right Islamistic politics, far right khalistani politics, far right hindu-nationalist politics, and all sorts of nonsense from across the globe is mimicked here. Which is kind of what a free society is all about.
We had Fenian raids in our history, where Irish extremists went terrorizing. Our biggest and bloodiest t3rr-er attack was carried out by Sikhs. Our problems are not just limited to USA style politics. If anything, that's the least concerning thing in our country at the moment. We have far bigger problems right now, much of it because of the millions that our current Prime Minister allowed into the country through backdoor immigration schemes such as Diploma Mill pseudo colleges and fake persecution claims.
