Also, didn't Platinum improve his writing a bit? Could be the memory blur (Gireum was right about DP and Pt being hard to set apart) but I remember late/post game Barry feeling better in Pt than he did in DP... If only Platinum made him a good 2v2 partner...
The fact that HGSS had the battle frontier, WHEN NO ASKED FOR IT, is really telling how game freak used to be. What they are now, killing the Battle Frontier and post-game as a whole, it's breaks my heart.
Yea but the battle tower is huge so its not that bad besides,I really like the post game with the underground, and the crazy rematches and the battle with the level 100 shadow giratina. in my opinion even with the flaws ilca did a damn good job
@ShinyMoltres the lack of voice acting also doesn't help. It makes you sound flawlessly right, when Gamefreak is too lazy to hire voice actors. I think somebody should do a fan dub.
the ricks got me LOL platinum truly was a step up in every single way. fingers crossed the fans develop a BDSP romhack that transforms it into the experience we all deserved
8:47. I feel so bad for the Kalos region. If Pokemon Z was a thing, it could've been one of the greatest Pokemon games ever made; Diamond/Pearl and X and Y are games so similar, it's possible that Z could've been like Platinum, in terms of quality.
I feel the same. Gen 6 got me back into the series since the release of diamond and pearl, so I think it would have been great if those games got something similar to platinum.
Completely agree bro. I love gen 6, it's my second favorite gen but i know alot of people dont like them as much and i think a Z version wouldve been well received
@@geckomoriadaimyoofwano7157 I completely agree. Even though I like BDSP, there's more point in remaking Kalos than remaking both Sinnoh and Unova, especially Unova. Their best games made those regions complete. I know it's tradition for the next generation to get the remake treatment, but I honestly feel like they should just skip Unova and go directly to Kalos. It might also have an advantage, since there's no third game for people to compare too.
@@alexkumaratunga2834 yessss!! Exactly, of all gens, Kalos is the only one without a third which is quite a shame. So much potential, the region, new pokemon and the music was great. Lysnadre and the hobo looking guy with the special floette couldve been fleshed out, not to mention Diantha. I love Diantha but she didnt do much. Oh well all we can do now is hope the remakes do it justice, id rather get a special Z version as a remake rather than the DP treatment of faithful remakes
kind of absurd to me what happened to kalos. did gf jusgt decide to cut their losses on kalos and try again in alola? I feel like kalos 2 could have been so good.
It''s still confusing as to why most of the trainers in the Canalave gym barely use any steel types as even with the limited DP dex, there wasn't a lack of steel types to choose from: Empoleon, Steelix, Bastiodon, Wormadam (Trash Cloak), Bronzong, and Lucario.
HeartGold and SoulSilver, a supposed remake of Gen 2's Gold and Silver, actually felt more like a Crystal remake from the same gen. It was literally a remake of the third game of Gen 2, because the Suicune and Eusine sidequest from Crystal was added as well as using the legendary beasts music that debut in Crystal for Entei, Raikou and Suicune battles (but with their own enhanced remix for each beast). They have never included third game content into the first ever remake which was FRLG, and has stopped adding the third game content into remakes from ORAS, and now BDSP as well. Guess this is one of the reasons why HGSS was goated as the best remakes that were ever made.
Yeah Crystal didn't do much to differentiate from GS other than adding a girl and making Suicune the boxart legendary, and being the first game to add a battle tower/post game.

It’s thanks to Platinum that we got one of the coolest locations in the series The Distortion World. It’s a shame we’ll probably never get to see it realised in proper 3D.
Remaking Platinum would've made much more sense, but unfortunately that's not how Gamefreak works.. At least there are some really cool rom hacks like Renegade Platinum
Drayano hacks are just always so fucking good. They really enhance an already good experience. Blaze black, Volt White and Renegade Platinum are by far the best ways to play those games again.
Did anyone noticed that Games like Platinum, Heartgold and Black and white 2 all are third versions, sequels or remakes are some of the best in the series? And it's almost like DP and BW was a test to the next version to see what worked and what didn't.
I can totally believe that and what’s unfortunate is that (hypothetically) it’s a test out of our, the consumers, pockets when they could’ve easily just gone with those revamped ideas in the first place but like this video is stating they were being straight up lazy. I’m disappointed that they straight up copied and pasted for the BDSP remake. The ORAS remake was absolutely brilliant and I was expecting that but with the switch. I wonder if the Arceus game is going to be a platinum inspired game. I was so hyped to buy BD but idk I’m worried I’ll be disappointed.. 😔
I believe xy is also some sort of beta testing and instead of launching z, they are pushed to launch sun moon on the franchise 15th anniversary so that the scrap materials were use to develop the story in anime
For whatever reason, it's not very uncommon for games to be improved and rereleased in Japan. Usually international releases are based on the improved version, or improvements are made to the international version, which is then localized back into Japanese and rereleased. Either way, we usually only see one version outside Japan. Pokemon is a big exception to that and has been since Yellow or Emerald, depending on how you look at it.
@@SnakebitSTI Pokemon first released Red and Green in Japan before releasing an enhanced Blue version which was used as the base for the NA Red and Blue release. This practice should have died when internet became widespread and games could be updated, but it was used as an excuse for day 1 patches. Half of BDSP (including the ending sequence) was from the day 1 patch so it could be shipped on smaller 4GB cartridges. Platinum content could have been a patch in the same way.
For the general consensus of the greatest Pokemon games, it's either Platinum, Heartgold and Soul Silver, or Black 2 and White 2. Basically, the best of generations 4 and 5.
@@pedromonteiro2248 Making Diamond and Pearl from scratch is definitely harder than making Platinum from just improving upon the foundation, so you're right about that. The point is, why make a remake faithful to the inferior version if Platinum is right there?(not disagreeing with you)

Playing Brilliant Diamond rn and it pisses me off that when looking up encounters on routes, that platinum has double the amount of new encounters or more compared to D/P on its own. It didn't need to be "faithful" in that aspect whatsoever imo.
I wouldn't call third versions a necessary evil. If the first games are always so rushed and incomplete that they keep needing a third game, then the obvious solution is to just take more time working on the first games so they don't need to be fixed in the first place.
this is exactly what i was thinking too lmao like if its such a consistent problem it feels less like 3rd games are required and more like these people have to rush the games at an early date and think about the actual content later
I mean, nothing is ever perfect the first time, that's where the polishing aspect comes in. DLC, at least to me, would have a lot more value if they also made retroactive changes to the base game with version updates. 3rd versions change the way the base game is set up, from improved learnsets to better availability for certain mons. The section about Prinplup having no access to good water moves until 24 was a great example.
@@Ulissescars this is something that i was thinking about, the duality aspect seems a little outdated due to the fact that we don't typically meet irl to play pokémon with other ppl like it was intentioned with the first games and also agree with the statement that, if you need to fix the game from the ground up with a new release, maybe do them good in the first place. And the whole thing with dual packs for buying the two full versions split full price instead of one game with everything from the very beginning seems also pretty shady
The exp share really isn’t that bad for bdsp. You’re only gonna overlevel if you grind and you’ll definitely be underleveled by the time you get to Cynthia.
Yes only Cynthia and i will one shot everything else i dont grind at all i just beat every trainer i mean if EXP share would be balanced it would be okey but it isnt
I have waited over 10 years to see the distortion world on the TV. It was one of the first thing to came to mind when i explored that mysterious realm....and we get like 30 squares in a single room to explore in the remake
I played D/P as a kid and remember not liking it. I then gave gen 4 another shot with Platinum and I loved it. I never really realized why until I watched this video.
SPOLERS: The elite four in BDSP will have 2 rematch teams the first rematch they will have their Platinum teams. On the second rematch they will have brand new teams Aaron will have a Flygon as his final team member Bertha will have a mamoswine and Nidoking Flint will have arcanine and ninetales Lucian will have a S lombro
To bad itd they'll be absolutely cake walks cause of the EXP share and friendship affection bonuses, the fact the levels are super high doesnt even mean crap cause by the time you beat one or two of them you'll be over leveled, it's like you'd have to build a whole new team for each battle to keep it challenging

Another great video essay as always, keep it up! There is one thing that I wish you pointed out about the "BDSP is a DP remake, not Platinum. Why are you mad?" argument at 31:28 though. It makes me upset whenever people say this because these same people seem to forget that HeartGold and SoulSilver exists. HG/SS were mainly G/S remakes, yet they decided to also add in content from Crystal. If Johto remakes could put in Crystal content, why can't Sinnoh remakes put in Platinum content?
People defend in whatever way suits them. I mockingly got upset about the fact that they’re using giratina’s theme, which is a platinum exclusive, when it’s supposed to be a faithful remake. I just got told to stop complaining.
Same can be said for ORAS too. Minus the Battle Frontier, ORAS was also a remake of Ruby/Sapphire but they also included content from Emerald (biggest example being Delta Episode featuring Rayquaza and Deoxys)

Yes, Pokemon Platinum is objectively one of the best Pokemon games to this day, but you can still have the best Pokemon experience in Renegade Platinum. I don't know how Drayano managed to make such a good and complete game as Pokemon Platinum much better and even more complete than it already was. Of course it's not an original Pokemon game but a ROM hack, which is so much more worthwhile to play than platinum. And no matter whether casual or as a Nuzlocke, etc. So if you want the ultimate Pokemon experience and challenge so far, play Renegade Platinum! It would be worth it just because of the quality of live changes, but there is so much more to it! In general, Drayano Hacks are excellent as are Storm Silver and Sacret Gold but Renegade is simply THE BEST (!) Pokemon game for real Pokemon fans!
and still, the hacks are getting better and better, one example is Pokemon GS Chronicles, which is still in beta, but it's basically Heart Gold with megas, and Radical Red, which is a "dream game" pokemon, including all the pokemons and mechanics...in a GBA
I'm still waiting for his Sacred Gold/Storm Silver V2.. But yeah I completely agree, with a bunch of new events and battles, interesting legendary trigger mechanics, combined with Drayano's clever way of overhauling wild pokemon and trainer battles made this one of the best nds rom hacks out there
I only played the Platinum version and I was a little intrigued to see the differences between this and the DP version, I will play this version when I get really bored
I think that of game freak were to develop the remakes themselves they could have less restrictions and maybe content from platinum, but they decided to give the dev to ILCA probably saying "do pokemon diamond and pearl remake" and being them a Japanese company, they just did what GF asked for without making any questions (like "can we add platinum content?") That intro was brilliant! So was the rest of the video! I remember playing Platinum back as a child for the first time and immediately realizing that never in my life I would want to go back to Diamond/Perl, and it’s for all the reasons you covered here. It is honestly mind-boggling that they, for no good reason at all, made the choice to build the remake upon the versions that are clearly worse in so many regards. And the worst thing is that we’re still all gonna buy it, because we want to experience the remakes regardless.
I never understood why gen 4 didn’t include all its new pokemon in the regional dex. Even in postgame, you wouldn’t really see them. If the desire to keep the number 151 is actually real, then add that to the long list of why i hate masuda.
fun fact: ilca tried to make bdsp like legends and tried to have as many platinum content but since masuda didn't want gamefreak to get embarassed like sonic team did when mania was a success and forces was a complete disaster so they wanted them to make a faithful remake and intentionally wanted them to ignore all platinum content
This comment cracked me up. It's so sad man, time and time again these higher ups need to push their own vision when it's clearly not optimal. We NEED more franchises to get sonic mania'd
Somewhat random but I will always find it funny that they put the rival who's main gimmick is that he's impatient and hasty in the games infamous for how slow they are. Almost feels intentional.
My first experience with Diamond was picking up someone's savefile with infinite rare candy cheats and the player was at the Pokemon League, that's how I recalled how bland the Elite Four rooms look, but not Maylene's gym or the Team Galactic building. After that I played a Ruby romhack called "Light Platinum" which at the time reused assets from both DP and Platinum, but treated the Sinnoh campaign like the Kanto postgame in the Johto games. Soon after that, I downloaded a translated Japanese rom of Platinum, which is the one I played from start to finish. As it was before the English version was officially made/released, the translation patch used the DP script, except that the Platinum-exclusive dialogue are left blank or untranslated, so the story changes were lost on me.
Platinum is hands down one of my favourite Pokémon games and improved on a lot Diamond & Pearl's flaws; the expanded Sinnoh Dex was a *major* improvement (you no longer had to rely on trading with friends or yourself to use Pokémon that were excluded from the previous Regional Dex.) I recently played all three games on my tablet and I forgot how *slow* DP are compared to Platinum. As limited as the Sinnoh Dex is in DP, at least Game Freak didn't pull the same crap they did in Gen III (namely FR/LG & Emerald) where the National Dex was required for obtaining Pokémon not native to the Regional Dex; that was one of the weirdest restrictions in the series.
I don't think DP is a bad game per say, it's got its flaws of course but those are nothing compared to the flaws of modern pokemon games. At least it's still a mostly complete game with a great region design. For its time it was also quite revolutionary for the pokemon games series. But you're absolutely right about Platinum being a vastly better game!
He has an understandable negative bias about it as he said he's very impatient, but I felt DP was a solid start for Gen 4, and may be one of the examples where DLC model could've worked for it if it was possible, although missing the improvements of Platinum story would've been missed. Ruby and Sapphire while admittedly less janky still felt a lot plainer than DP IMO. RS unable you to migrate from Gen 2, no animated sprited, day/night not a thing, not much post-game areas, and there is issues with the water routes. DP at least had moving sprites, more reliable player rematches, post-game areas, accesbility of National Dex and its Pokemon, additions of Physical/Special split, and I'd argue the story a bit. If you don't care some of this aspects though I see why it won't be your cup of tea.
@@zjzr08 Yeah I understand his point of view completely and even agree to it for the most part. However when he says DP is worse than the likes of SwSd that's where I draw the line, that's just objectively wrong by virtue of how bad SwSd is in terms of region design, difficulty, progression and so much more. Gen 4, especially DP might be a slug to play through but I'd still much rather play that than a game that holds my hand from start to finish and locks me in place only to tell a story that's arguably the worst in the series
@@yiangaruga4928 Yeah I agree too, DP has lots to bring as I said, hence why the base concept of BDSP may be much better than SwSh, even if it had no Platinum content. Still, I had much higher expectations oddly enough and thought BDSP would be where "Gen 8 actually starts" for me, but it seemed to be going a Let's Go route of "this is just a different flavor of meh".
I'm sorry but DP definitely down there as top 3 worst "first duo games" together with XY and swsh.. DP isn't really super bad,but the other duo games probably better than DP
@@WheelStart For the time though, I think DP did well. XY maybe, but I think they had some issues with how they planned the region (and if the team size is as relatively small as it is now, then it's likely they sacrificed time from the story to plan the Kalos Pokedex and NPCs), but SwSh being sold as a mainline is as horrible as it gets IMO.
what annoyed me about the limited dex in DP is that so many trainers just use 3 Pokemon with the same species. There is your average pure Magikarp trainer. A Trainer with 3 Onix. A trainer with 3 Geodude. A trainer with 3 Roselia. A trainer with 3 Bidoof. There are more but I can't remember them all. Also Fire Type was manatory because of Bronzong and Bronzel everywhere so Chimchar was basically the starter to pick since it has good mixed stats and evolves early.
That's nothing compared to the wild pokemon. Medicham was in every single cave and even some routes. It was samey to the point I now dislike Medicham. Machoke is guilty too, but not to the extent of Medicham.

great video, i am really shocked that they even didn’t include the environmental improvements from platinum into the remakes like the galaxy headquarters as you mentioned. the game is an exact copy of BP but in 3D chibis, that is crazy to me, and the excuse of nostalgia is bullshit. At this point, if they just wanted to make money while doing the bare minimum they should have just release a remaster version of platinum with quality of life improvements and fairy type lol.
Gonna be honest, what I got from this video was that Legends: Arceus took all of our childhood nostalgia for broken games and made it actually good lol
The intro was both amazing and absolutely funny. Entire video was good! I honestly believe Platinum (followed by Gen 5 games) were at the "pinnacle" of Pokemon games, in my opinion. The others after were okay and all, but it does feel something was missing in them. In any case, this video popped up in my feed so thought to give it a watch. :)
BDSP brought back gym leader/elite 4 rematches using their Platinum rematch teams, and a 2nd rematch team after beating those rematches. From what we know of the teams, they are harder than anything in Platinum, or anything we've seen in a Pokemon game honestly. Looking forward to getting my ass kicked.
To bad itd they'll be absolutely cake walks cause of the EXP share and friendship affection bonuses, the fact the levels are super high doesnt even mean crap cause by the time you beat one or two of them you'll be over leveled, it's like you'd have to build a whole new team for each battle to keep it challenging Only thing that could of been challenging would of been a battle fromtier but that is non existent

I've been thinking for weeks and I came to this conclusion, I'd really like to hear your thoughts on this: I think it makes no sense to blame Masuda for XY being bad when the fault is on The Pokémon Company, and not Game Freak. They did all of those 621 3D models (plus Pokémon forms like Castform, Rotom, Deoxys, Jellicent, so more than that) and animations practically while making B2W2, which are the games with the most content so it's amazing that they could both do that and everything that went into XY. TPC should've given more time when the deadline was approaching and the game didn't have a lot of content, and the same goes to basically every game after that, especially Sword and Shield and BDSP. And I bet all of the excuses Masuda gave (like why there was no Battle Frontier in ORAS or why the few Pokémon in SwSh) are excuses he had to create to avoid saying "we didn't have time because fuck TPC caring about the money and not the quality of the games". It wouldn't make sense for a game developer like him to be happy to make games with almost no content. This is a thought I've been having for some weeks and lately I've put stuff together, basically crafting this "theory". Because I think people have been wrongly throwing hate at Masuda all these years when the true monster was TPC's director, Tsunekazu Ishihara, who is the one basically managing everything at Pokémon, deciding the deadlines, deciding the games created and everything. Masuda is the frontman, the one that has to come up with excuses like "no Battle Frontier because kids weak" or "no Pokémon because we wanted to focus on high quality animations", but I don't think he really believes that when at the same time they've been making the Battle Maison and now the Battle Tower in BDSP, which is a challenge that weak kids wouldn't be able to beat either. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense that Masuda really isn't the guy to blame here at all, if they had more time they would've added more content in XY, SWSH, etc. The only one that is weird is USUM, because they had at least one extra year to make that one compared to S/M, and they barely added stuff considering that they had basically an extra year, so that one is weird and you can probably blame Game Freak on that and not the deadline, but every other recent game definitely would've had more content if Ishihara cared about the quality and not just the money like he does now. Ishihara let the early unfinished mess copies of BDSP get out to reviewers, missing graphics, missing music, missing content, being a total mess, all so they can sell it right before Christmas. Masuda isn't a part of TPC, he doesn't control deadlines or sending stuff to reviewers, that's on TPC and when talking about a new main Pokémon game, that's definitely on Ishihara, TPC and basically Pokémon's boss. Because actually Masuda was the one implementing tons of content in the Pokémon games. He directed DP and DP do have a lot of content compared to the GBA era of games. FR/LG (which Masuda directed btw, and not his first game as director because that one was Crystal and sub-directing Gold and Silver) had the islands, great. He intentionally wanted to introduce content, and the Sevii Islands are fairly big. GBA Hoenn (he directed Ruby and Sapphire, also Black and White) really didn't have a lot of content or postgame content, even with Battle Frontier. DP introduced a lot of stuff, the Pokétch functions, the seals, redesigned contests, the whole postgame island that has the Battle Tower, the Poké Radar and many other things that were improved in Platinum. I hate Diamond and Pearl, they are slow as fuck and who would play them having Platinum? But it really was the birth of having tons of content in Pokémon games (which basically lasted only for the DS era). So even if they were slow, Masuda was the creator of the Pokémon games having tons of content. So it doesn't make sense to call Masuda lazy or the one that killed Pokémon games having content just because he directed XY and it was very empty, it still had a fair amount of stuff to do considering it was the first 3D game and they were probably busy putting everything together, like the models and animations. Just look at how ORAS (directed by Ohmori, also S/M and SwSh) turned out having so much content compared to XY, I bet the only reason why they didn't add the Battle Frontier was because they really didn't have time, hence why the Battle Maison was almost a copy-paste of the one in XY (teams and movesets do change), because they did add the whole Delta Episode and improved the story of teams Magma and Aqua. And they had to give a "reason" why it wasn't included, one that wasn't "we had no time" because that would've made the company look bad for not giving them more time to finish the game and make it better. I wonder what you feel about these thoughts, because talking seriously, it just wouldn't be right to put the fault on the wrong man when it looks like Ishihara's greediness in not extending the deadline because Christmas and New Year money is far more responsible for the garbages that SwSh and BDSP are than Masuda could possibly be. I myself enjoyed blaming Masuda because I thought that he was responsible until I started thinking about all of this a few weeks ago and how he's not Pokémon's director or anything. But yeah, it just doesn't make sense to me to blame him considering all of this.
Game Freak co-owns TPC, Game Freak theoretically could say no and it is up to Nintendo and Creatures to follow through...also Masuda is actually a Board of Director of Game Freak meaning he's technically a higher up.
@@zjzr08 Yeah everyone knows he's a higher up at Game Freak, but the company that manages everything at Pokémon is TPC. Creatures and GF own 33% of Pokémon like TPC but the company managing Pokémon is TPC, managing deadlines and everything, the only thing the other 2 do is accept stuff like when they're gonna make a new game, but they don't manage anything at Pokémon. So if they're making a game and it's incomplete, it's not like they can say "how about we don't do this" or "let's extend the deadline tpc please" and expect everything to be so easy, I bet they have asked for more time to finish BDSP because its state feels like a joke and it still was shipped to places and reviewers that, you know, need to review the game and shouldn't receive it incomplete, with the music not correctly working, graphics missing and everything else. Because if they extend the deadline then a ton of other stuff changes, and TPC would need to manage that, to extend the deadline and take care of everything else that comes with that, like calling reviewers and telling them that they're not actually going to send the game for them to review now, "we said we were gonna send it but no, we'll send it in 3 months", stuff like that would happen. And merch, and so on. It would be a challenging move, but it would help make the games better, especially because you wouldn't think they'd ship out an incomplete game... but they did because the big boss allowed it to happen.
@@OshawottLuke The thing is theoretically IF all Game Freak, Creatures and Nintendo say no, I don't think TPC can say no. Nintendo based on some series shows they're willing to give time to their development teams like in Luigi's Mansion 3 and New Horizons (which I wish was the one not delayed, so that Pokemon can be delayed and NH could've been the 2019 holiday release, and as we see are more willing to update the games for free), although recent games like Mario 3D collection and Mario Golf Super Rush seems to contradict that. Creatures have their TCG which GF can negotiate to have new content for them while the games are made. Maybe my speculation, but I don't think Masuda and co. and sadly maybe Nintendo and others mind the products are rushed as long as the casuals are happy - and IMO it seems to be the case since the renaissance of Pokemon GO brought a lot of casual fans that won't likely care for the more in-depth elements we had that got polished in the later gens IMO.

This one of the best videos that I've seen this week. Platinum is always one of the best Pokemon games. The moment that I knew that Distortion World not coming in BDSP, it straight up horrible. When I was kid, I remember that I spend many hours in solving puzzles in there and thought I will struck there forever and find it very annoying but Now, I didn't expect that I will missing it and I realize it makes Sinnoh games soulful.
I remember that when i were 11 and DP came out, and all my friends got DP, i resisted and waited for For the inevatable “emerald version”. Boy am i glad i did now
As someone who’s never played Platinum and love Diamond and Pearl, I understand why people don’t like D/P but a lot of those reasons just don’t affect my enjoyment of them, I’d never consider them “bad”
My traditions are: Not playing Pokemon Diamond or Pokemon Pearl (I believe the Pokemon encounters are horrendous) Playing Pokemon Platinum, with a nuzlocke challenge. (This is why Pokemon Platinum is the difficult game to nuzlocke) Caitlin was introduced in Generation 4 as a joke, but Generation 5 gave a storyline for Caitlin. Part of the reason why I still play Generation 4 (Pokemon Platinum and Pokemon HeartGold) and Generation 5 (Pokemon Black and Pokemon Black 2)
One thing that you seem to have missed in Part 2 is that Giratina, quite literally, IS a saviour. In Diamond and Pearl, the Lake Trio does indeed break the Red Chain and take Cyrus' control away from Dialga/Palkia. However, in Platinum, they fail to do this, and Cyrus straight up explains to you that the Lake Trio would have succeeded in their efforts had it only been Dialga or Palkia there (like in D/P), not BOTH of them, so he still has control over the situation. It's when Giratina shows up that things change, it's Giratina that takes Cyrus' control away from Dialga and Palkia, it's Giratina that stops him and SAVES the world from him, but Giratina is still enraged after stopping him, so it's ultimately up to us to calm it down. It's why I think Platinum gives us the best introduction to the cover legendary out of any Pokémon game, because without Giratina, Cyrus would have won in no uncertain terms.
They should fix the difficulty in pokemon z . Wulfric and the e4 should used megas in main game and every gym leader used megas in postgame..main XY rival ( Serena or calem) should have stronger team and used megas before postgame..they should used mega kanto starter rather than absol..and for extra, I wish they give kalos starter mega evolution in Pokémon z
That intro was amazing! I always remembered that I'll always go back to Platinum, thank you for reminding me to not buy into the hype when I can just go back to the superior Platinum game
I remember after enjoying playing through Pearl and Diamond (I didnt buy these, these were my cousin's old games my aunt gave me) and loving it and hearing about how much better Platinum was but also going "why should I buy Platinum when I have both Pearl AND Diamond" but when I was trying to buy Unova or a mystery dungeon game at a game store neither were there but Platinum was and biting the bullet I bought it and I loved it so much omg I was shook by my enjoyment
Platinum is in the running for the best pokemon game of all time maybe only rivaled by white 2. When people say they love dp I'm genuinely baffled as they're in the running for the lamest entries. Platinum is gen 4!
So I didn't play Platinum until about two years ago, which means my love for Sinnoh came 100% from Diamond version. As for why BDSP are ignoring Platinum, as you already said in your video "money doesn't lie." While ebay auctions of Platinum might be high now, Gamefreak doesn't see that money, so to them they have Diamond and Pearl being in the top 5 best selling games of the entire series, vs Platinum in the top 5 lowest selling mainline Pokemon games. People just didn't buy Platinum back in the day, that's a fact; and then everyone who played it on emulators wonders why they never reuse their favorite features... Maybe if more people had financially supported it, Platinum would be in better graces with the businessmen that own it.
The question is why so many few buy third versions anyway, although it still doesn't make sense that if it worked in Platinum, why can't it work for BDSP, despite the so-called sales.
@@Jetstreamsamdidnothingwrong Crystal had far fewer changes to Gold and Silver than Platinum did to Diamond and Pearl. For Crystal, all they had to do was add a legendary and an NPC back into the story, but for Platinum, they would have to change multiple major events. I'm not defending Gamefreak here as Platinum was an absolutely amazing game, but it make sense why they chose to keep Crystal's few features but not any that hailed from Platinum in the respective remakes.
@@spampharos Crystal also added animated sprites for each Pokemon (the first in the series) and a Battle Tower, although I'm not sure exactly about other improvements as I played Crystal a long while.
Fully agree with your list of "best" games at 5:16. Isn't it sad that they all came back to back and all on the DS? Like there hasn't been a truly good game from the franchise of my childhood since like 2012?

Don’t have mixed memories of DP/Pt because I never played Pt 😭😭. You just had to be there in 06. But Deoxys had form change too? Or at least version exclusive forms which is a little different. Everything else you mention extremely valid!! I remember surfing and saving taking forever!!! But HG/SS fixed surfing, saving wouldn’t get fixed until gen 5. regardless of that people still enjoyed their time with DP
man after this video i am very upset on the fact that those fools are remaking dp instead of platinum but hey according to some leaks bdsp is made on unity and if they are true than why the heck should we purchase bdsp when can get platinum remake for free
I feel like you even missed some of the delays in the DP battle, almost any time the text scrolls there’s a slight lag, and pretty much every time you press A! Idk how I made it through a full playthrough of Pearl again last year. I guess quarantine boredom was just really that bad
Ultra Sun & Moon had some interesting ideas, but GameFreak didn't bother to flesh any of them out. Namely, the Pokémon multiverse concept, or more to the point, Ultra Space. That could've been something grandiose and meaningful... but it only exists as a means to catch all the old Legendary Pokémon again, and to half-heartedly explain away any plot inconsistencies between games as each of them 'taking place in a different universe'.
Great video! When you said that DP is the worst enemy of the A button I really felt that. Diamond my first game on the DS and my A button was noticeable pressed in
People who ask why you are mad since it’s not a platinum remake, must have forgotten that Heart Gold and Soul Silver included and expanded on all of Crystals inclusions. That’s such a shit argument that can literally be debunked by another remake in the same damn franchise!
Hgss was the exception. Oras wasn't Emerald either and Lgfr wasn't Yellow so it's not such a crap argument. Crystal made the least changes from Gold and Sliver
@@mariowalker9048 ORAS was criticized for the lack of Emerald content though. FRLG meanwhile was the first remakes so I guess there's no solid standard, but the IMO the jump between Gen 1 and Gen 3 (the mechanics of what makes a Pokemon's stat and its abilities, which aren't changed even now) was so big it was enough - I agree maybe they could've added following Pikachu, but other than that I don't know what was missing from Yellow that was from FRLG that makes sense to add.
"expanded on all if Crystals inclusions" okay what did they exactly expand from Crystal when outside of the Suicune event (what got complety butchered by making it a Kanto event at the end and making Suicune useless thanks to being underleveled), most of the Crystal changes don't even exist in HGSS as little as those changes are?
@@V-Jes How can Suicune can be useless when it's one of the best competitive Pokemon out there in Gen 4 and can be played in the Battle Frontier compared to other legendaries?
@@zjzr08 well that's simple, it's good in competitive because there everyone has same level, theyr best moves and theyr EVs and IVs maxed out for that, during HGSS' maingame tho it has none of that when you can catch it as it's a level 40 encounter when your team is way past that level already because it was balanced for Johto in mind, while at same time you can just go catch a level 70 ho-oh/lugia instead...
Great review! As someone who grew up with gen 4, I wasn't bothered playing DP while Pt was out since Sinnoh was still new and exciting regardless of which game. But now that the remakes had the opportunity to include more platinum changes but didn't, it's a little concerning. Regardless I'm still looking forward to BDSP.

I wouldn't call third versions a necessary evil. If the first games are always so rushed and incomplete that they keep needing a third game, then the obvious solution is to just take more time working on the first games so they don't need to be fixed in the first place.
this is exactly what i was thinking too lmao
like if its such a consistent problem it feels less like 3rd games are required and more like these people have to rush the games at an early date and think about the actual content later
The section about Prinplup having no access to good water moves until 24 was a great example.
usually the third game is a gimmick gsmr lol

So if you want the ultimate Pokemon experience and challenge so far, play Renegade Platinum! It would be worth it just because of the quality of live changes, but there is so much more to it!
In general, Drayano Hacks are excellent as are Storm Silver and Sacret Gold but Renegade is simply THE BEST (!) Pokemon game for real Pokemon fans!

Nintendo have always done that.
The intro to this video is so much slower than Blissey losing HP in Diamond and Pearl 😂
On the intro: Legends Arceus looks like it's going to be the one with *effort*
I never understood why gen 4 didn’t include all its new pokemon in the regional dex. Even in postgame, you wouldn’t really see them. If the desire to keep the number 151 is actually real, then add that to the long list of why i hate masuda.
fun fact: ilca tried to make bdsp like legends and tried to have as many platinum content but since masuda didn't want gamefreak to get embarassed like sonic team did when mania was a success and forces was a complete disaster so they wanted them to make a faithful remake and intentionally wanted them to ignore all platinum content
Darn Masuda. People mostly like Sinnoh because of Platinum, not Diamond and Pearl.
This comment cracked me up. It's so sad man, time and time again these higher ups need to push their own vision when it's clearly not optimal.
We NEED more franchises to get sonic mania'd
@@universalcerberus5863 i still don't understand why they did that
@@PsclKmn it's like whatever we want masuda makes sure that it does not happen
Fuckin source for this?
There better come a game called “Ominous Platinum” or smth that’s a faithful remake of Platinum.
Than I’d be very very happy 😌
Somewhat random but I will always find it funny that they put the rival who's main gimmick is that he's impatient and hasty in the games infamous for how slow they are. Almost feels intentional.
Looking forward too it, such a shame the remakes almost have none platinum content :/
Pokemon D/P was released in 2006 in Japan, so the 151 was just a reminder of the 10th anniversary. But still the D/P pokedex sucks.
I honestly fell off pokemon in Gen 3, but Platinum was a VERY glorious return for me. That game is pretty amazing to say the least.
*I usually watch pokemon instead of playing, I liked the X n Y story, about that king revenge, but I totally felt like something was missing, like Z game to focus on his story maybe with a new campaing or something, but the story as good indeed, I'm not a fan to rank all games story 'n gameplay, but I like Platinum, X n Y story only, and the other remakes, specially Alpha n Omega cuz Delta*
I would have added "but many fans still bought the modern games whenever the lazy one put them out. Seems kinda hypocritical don't you think?"
Their hearts captured when young they can not resist the lure of the lazy one
Where did this come from? I'm pretty sure the people buying the games and those denouncing them are two groups.
@@anothergamer112 Theirs some overlap but most seem too go with the idea that dispite any complaints they have in general Pokemon fans will mostly buy the game day one.
There's too many new fans who don't know better, they are the ones who really fund this greed
That's why GF never changed..they know that even if they make a rushed game, people still buy it anyway..why wasting more time and effort when you still get 10+ million sell by making a rushed game?
great video, i am really shocked that they even didn’t include the environmental improvements from platinum into the remakes like the galaxy headquarters as you mentioned. the game is an exact copy of BP but in 3D chibis, that is crazy to me, and the excuse of nostalgia is bullshit.
plot twist they will release a pokemon platinum remake in 2022
Bad news my boy
BDSP brought back gym leader/elite 4 rematches using their Platinum rematch teams, and a 2nd rematch team after beating those rematches. From what we know of the teams, they are harder than anything in Platinum, or anything we've seen in a Pokemon game honestly. Looking forward to getting my ass kicked.
The BDSP post game is greatly expanded compared to DPPl; it's the hardest game in the series. That's something to look forward to in BDSP!
Only thing that could of been challenging would of been a battle fromtier but that is non existent
@@JBzucc
The affection bonusses are optional, you don't have to use them. And from what read by the people who have played the game, the EXP-share has been nerfed so that you don't earn as much EXP as previous titles (still sucks that it can't be turned off but at least it shouldn't be as bad as say SwSh)
@@HMMadsen I’m pretty sure I heard affection is only optional if you don’t have your pokemon follow you. So to make it optional, you need to give up one of the biggest selling points of the game.
@@HMMadsen are you sure affection bonuses are optional cause they never were optional, we might not be thinking about about same thing
I beat and stopped at diamond thinking Pokemon had essentially died. I should have had hope and continued with platinum. 10yrs later now I’m having a blast with platinum
All hail our lord & savior Platinum & Satan. Great review of Platinum comparing its differences to DP. While I didn't play Gen 4 when it came out but I've almost never heard anyone praise DP
Awesome intro. Best movie ive watched this year.
I love Gen 7!!!!!

A few things
1) Deoxys had form changes before Giratina
2) It's the SKY Pillar where Rayquaza is found, not Spear Pillar
My traditions are: Not playing Pokemon Diamond or Pokemon Pearl (I believe the Pokemon encounters are horrendous)
Playing Pokemon Platinum, with a nuzlocke challenge. (This is why Pokemon Platinum is the difficult game to nuzlocke)
Caitlin was introduced in Generation 4 as a joke, but Generation 5 gave a storyline for Caitlin.
I would love to hear your thought on pokemon z and what it could fix, it would make a great video
If Pokémon Z would come out, the Npc would’ve been 2D animated instead of a 2D image.
It's too bad that Platinum didn't pass part of its aspects over to the remakes. That's why the reception for BDSP is falling.
The question is why so many few buy third versions anyway, although it still doesn't make sense that if it worked in Platinum, why can't it work for BDSP, despite the so-called sales.
the worst selling main line pokemon game is crystal and that didn't stop them adding content from crystal in to heart gold and soul silver
Ultra Sun & Moon had some interesting ideas, but GameFreak didn't bother to flesh any of them out. Namely, the Pokémon multiverse concept, or more to the point, Ultra Space.
