When the video started I honestly thought you would conclude that it was a rediculous tool that simply does more damage to the board. Im stunned that it worked. Thanks for the review.

wondering if it can burn the microshort inside the cpu (of some 1v8 lines, i bet there is a chance the cpu could work again if the short is burned away). Definitely worth a try with internal bbcpu or cpu short. you can take the chip off and solder wires to the shorted line on the chip itself. Maybe another video with experiment? Really curious

Is bypassing , What is doing , all depends whi ch part , if the case is with the switch dial , probably not gonna be switching. thank you for your video, good to know.

I assume it pumps a high current incrementing until a quick change in current(short burns open) then it shuts off before damaging good parts of cct with over voltage. This one seems like proper short killer with protection. Some use killers without protection but they must be careful with voltage selection. Would be interesting to use recording oscope to see what current was doing.

The short killer are useful in other situations not to destroy components. Inject voltage and check the board with a termal cam to find out where the short is

The very significant risk with that, is that AFAIK these things have no current limiter. If the short is on an output line of a chip, and ie. 20 amps need to go through that to get to the shorted component, then you might end up with a bigger problem than a shorted cap.

The best practise is to set lower amphere and use thermocam or Rosin Smoke Method to spot the heat on the bad chip

    • @pr0xZen

Not everyone can afford a thermal cam, at least not a good one with high enough resolution to be suited for microelectronics diagnostics. Drowning your board in rosin or flux isn't ideal either, adding _a lot_ of time to job turnover, for ultrasonic, IPA bath and drying. And 98%+ IPA is really expensive due to the pandemic.
If your board has a dead short, the short protection in your PSU will trigger and cut off power before most components can heat up enough. This is for those cases where your PSU's self preservation gets in the way of diagnostics. It's not meant to replace more traditional and arguably safer diagnostics, its only meant to _agument_ it for those particular sitiations.
I really want to see one of these short killers with an adjustable current limiter though. For small electronics, even at 2-2.5VDC, 3-5 amps would probably be plenty enough in 90% of cases. I guess most of these tool aren't meant to be limited for use _only_ with small, low power electronics running off 1-2 lipo cells.

Where can I buy one of these? Are they out yet? I’m more interested in the other functions of it, not really to clear shorts.

I love u i fabricated a local short killer in 2016 with thé cells of a laptop battery and i used 5.5volts direct to batteur terminales.it smokes thé capacitor and i pull it out with a solder iron.thé device is really Nice expecially with thé ipower feature.

I don't believe , is just another tool for sale, is quite impossible to repair physically damaged stuff via software.

dc power supply adjustable is more convenient than this short killer tool. it is same, only the name is change. it does not need 20A or 30A to detect shorts. 5A or 6A is enough.
