- In this video, George and Jonny check out Laowa’s brand new 10mm f2.8 Zero-D Lens and see how it performs for both photography and filmmaking. Naturally, with an ultrawide angle lens like this, landscape and architecture photography come to mind. But what else can this lens do?
A little about this lens. The 10mm focal range offers a vast angle of view of 130.4°, allowing you to capture expansive scenes. Laowa has built this lens with Zero-D optics which means you’ll see close-to-zero distortion and it will ensure when shooting square-onto buildings, for example, vertical and horizontal lines remain straight. Finally, with an impressively close minimum focusing distance, this lens really does allow you to get creative with your shooting.
This lens is available in Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF and L-Mount. Learn more about each mount here: bit.ly/4bMNxIZ

Some people say they don't have a use for ultra wide lens, the first time I stood before a scene and said I wish I had a lens wider than 24mm ,I was on the island of St Thomas and we went to a point on the island overlooking St Thomas harbor, I have been to several different Carrabian islands and the view of this one on St Thomas was impressive. I went home and bought the Pentax 12-24 f4 and I used it for so many landscape photos, it was my favorite lens during my one and only trip to the southern coast of Maine, being a APSC lens it had a full frame field of view of 18-36mm. There were times when I wished it was wider but I was just amazed at the photos I was able to get with that lens. I had the pleasure of photographing events for a number of years and one wedding I photographed was an outdoor event under a tent in Kingston Ny on the Roundout river. The one lens that helped me capture the entire scene was a Pentax fisheye zoom lenses
10-17 f3.5-4.5. This gave me the ability to shoot some photos that I'm sure surprised the bride and groom. Over the years I have added many different cameras and glass to my collection of Pentax cameras and I have many wide angle zoom and prime lenses, I just picked up the Nikon Z 14-30mm f4 for my Nikon ZF and Z6Ii and this is my widest zoom lens for a full frame camera, I will look at the 10mm for sure. The widest prime I have is a Voitelander 15mm MKIII for the Nikon Z mount, it's a compact manual focus lens that works really nicely on my ZF.
Another good review of this lens, different to the other I saw but still remaining the decision to keep it on the buying list. Thanks guys.
Glad it was helpful!
Laowa really are producing good quality interesting lenses.
They are, and this one was a treat to shoot with.
Very good review and shots
Thank you! Glad it was helpful :)
informative review Thanks Wex.
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video -- informative and well illustrated.
It will be a while before I can justify this, but it's on the list for double-duty with FF/APSC L-mount.
Its a real treat to use and will be worth the wait. The L-mount and RF-mount versions of this lens are manual focus and manual aperture lenses.
Thanks, I'd noticed that it was all-manual. As a related point, I'd like to see more manual focus lenses with electronic contacts from all the brands; it's a pleasant way to shoot @@WexPhotoVideo
Why is nobody reviewing the 14 BLADE manual version?? Too many vids of the 5 blade!!!
Going to be my go to CAVING spelunking lense!!
Nice! Tag us and show us what you get up to :)
I have a couple of Laowa macro lenses and even if I am ino Sony GMs, I can consider my Laowa lenses really excellent. I have also already have a 10mm Voigtlander lens that I hardly use so this ultra wide angle has just for special, quite rare business case for me. Nevertheless, I am sure this is a fine piece of glass, although considering the extreme large DoF, I do not see the point of the AF. @5:33: did you manage to capture some UFO sighting, or just forgot to clean the sensor of your camera? 🙂
Haha - you got us there. We wish it was a UFO (most exciting moment in a review ever). It's definitely rare to use the wide in film, but actually offers some really unique shots. We weren't sure but found ourselves kind of loving it!
Front filter thread if not available is literally a deal-breaker. That's why I'm not considering Sony 14mm f1.8 nor Sigma 14mm f1.4. This lens with maybe Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 and Viltrox 16mm f1.8 might be the complete package.
You never mentioned if it's full frame or apsc lens!!
Good point, it is a full-frame lens so it can be used on both Full Frame and APSC bodies on Sony E and Nikon Z mount cameras.
@@WexPhotoVideoWow thanks. Very interesting indeed. 10mm on a full frame with no distortion is crazy 👍
And on Leica L mount, but only MF@@WexPhotoVideo
@@w00dbear Oh really? I was just about to get one for my L Mount. Will it be available in AF with firmware update for the S5, I wonder?
After seeing sample sample images I feel the sharpness is super low and CA is hell. So 10mm ZD never comes without trade off.
How this lens perform on an aps-c ?
We didn't try it on an APS-C camera but it would give a 15mm equivalent focal length and will be using the sharpest and brightest central portion of the lens (although on full-frame the edge sharpness was impressive). If you try it on a Sony or Nikon APS-C body let us know how it fares.
Leica L mount and Canon RF in the manual focus versions fyi. Laurie. NZ. 😊
