Thunder - Shared System - Shuttle Control Cargo 4 - Sensel Morph Thunder

  • When Endorphin.es released the Cargo 4 firmware update for the Shuttle Control I noticed a lot of Buchla inspired stuff that could also be interesting for MakeNoise Shared System owners. Cargo 4 implements Buchla's source of uncertainty and something called Pulsers, which are dynamic envelopes you can patch directly to your VCA. Another cool thing is the 'thunder' overlay for the Sensel Morph. Sensel managed to license the iconic Buchla keyboard/controller, enabling midi polyphonic expression for your hardware. There's so much you can do!

    Absolutely amazing stuff! Thank you for sharing. p.s. you are right, lots of random things from Cargo4 were 'polished' to work with Thunder

      Hi ! Can you please help me to understand : is Preset 3 is already set for Thunder Sensel or I need to setup on a Sensel side something via software ?

      You're very welcome. I was really in doubt and got it in my cart for a long time, because a lot of gear ends up a closet. But the sensel is really clever and I am definitely going to order the Premiere Pro video editing overlay too :).

    This is great. I was unaware that Sensal Morph could with Shuttle Control. This seems like an appropriate partnership running through Thunder overlay into Shuttle Control. Time to start saving.

    Funnily enough I just picked up a Shared System again and chose to fill the 12HP with a shuttle control too. The sensel has a lot to do with that decision and this has me real excited to dig in 😍

    Amazing video ! I was thinking to buy or not Sensel Thunder. But now I will order. @theendorphones made a great job. Bu the way ? Are there a lot of changes was done with Thunder setup (software) or it was Plug and Play to get a result like this with Cargo4?

    is the pulser working ok for you? i find it very strange, doesn't respond very well with velocity, and maybe too long. And can you share some notes on the mod you've done to the shuttle preset?

      I absolutely love the pulser!
      Try setting it up with a midi sequencer, not a keyboard - so you can finetune the velocity. The differences in length are quite extreme, you do have to find a usable range for the track.

    is the shuttle control still buggy? i remember reading in the forums some users not getting along with it so well. maybe user error? seems like youve got it working here pretty smoothly

      Never had any problem with it. But you need to be familiar with midi control channels or willing to learn. Then you can really make it your own. Still running Cargo 4 firmware with a few presets that suit all my scenarios.

      @@CinematicLaboratory it doesnt bother you any that it doesnt like the microtonal scales?

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  2 роки тому +1

      @@0neTwo0neTwo Ha, no it doesn't. I suck at music theory and only use the minor scale. I had no idea microtonal scales could be an issue. As for midi notes, it's just numbers between 0 and 127 and the modular decides which note to play - usually having no idea what a concert pitch is. Shuttle Control is a midi to semitone CV converter. Modules like Ornament & Crime can convert incoming voltage to microtonal scales.

      @@CinematicLaboratory i was just thinking if I was to try and send micro tonal midi pitch info from Ableton it would be a hard time but your way works also I suppose there’s no way with just make noise modules and the shuttle

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  2 роки тому +1

      @@0neTwo0neTwo Well, it depends on how many oscillators you'd use. Suppose you have four and you configure four midi to CV outputs. You could still slightly detune the oscillators or even affect the Midi to CV intervals with a bit of attenuation from Maths (moddemix is also helpful). You may not have an 'official' microtonal scale, but you will definitely experience the slight offsets as microtonal, organic and magical. Maybe this is a cool tutorial for my shared system series! Thanks for the inspiration!

    Hi, I am thinking about upgrading my Make Noise system (www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1387904) with a Sensel Morph Thunder. For Midi/CV there are 3 options: Shuttle Control, Polend Poly 2 and Expert Sleepers FH-2.
    Since I like the Shuttle System (mainly because of your demos) I am thinking to add this to my system. But then I think the DPO could easily been replaced by furthrrr. How would you rate the built quality of endorphin.es vs. Make Noise (especially the pots)? Thanks for your answer. Cheers, Pascal

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  3 роки тому

      I have an FH-2 which is a crime to setup and I never use it. For me it's completely useless. I don't know Poly2 but it looks like a great solution. However, I totally love the Shuttle Control because of its easy configuration with a webpage and insane amount of possibilities including 'running by itself' without a PC. There's factory support for the Sensel, Beatstep Pro, etc. So I have no reason to look into the Poly2. Quality wise I must say Endorphin.es is top notch, while MakeNoise pots are more vulnerable. But MakeNoise makes more interesting modules imho. I believe the Furthrrrr can't beat the woody organic sound of the DPO. I love the Furthrrr and it's an amazing complex oscillator, but sometimes it's just a bit too complex to find the sound you're looking for. So it's a matter of taste and workflow. I believe the Furthrrrr has a wider range of possible sounds, but it's the utilities that make all the difference.

      @@CinematicLaboratory thank you for your answer. Then I will most probably go for a shuttle system, but separate modules. Would you suggest the Grand Terminal or the Terminal? And are the FX sufficient or is milky way mandatory?

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  3 роки тому

      @@pascaljaeggi7223 Terminal is no longer available so you can only order Grand Terminal. The GT is an end of chain module for the Shuttle System. You can see it as two Airstreamers (LFO/Envelope), two SwqkDirty's and a Milky Way so it's a pretty awesome module. However, it has a stereo line level output so you'd need a stereo to mono cable to patch the GT deeper in a modular system - and there could be gain issues compared to modules from other brands. The FX in the GT shares the same firmware as the MW so there's no difference. Same for the filter firmware. The GT however, can not slew a voltage (note slides) while the Airstreamer can do that. So you may even consider getting separates if you're planning to build a bigger rig in the far/near future.
