9:14 - 10:20 My guy really went out there and wrote an entire villain arc speech for himself because his horror Sonic fanfiction got moved to another website
That guy took "going insane from your own creation" to every possible level: deciding to just ruin a big chunk of the childhood, enjoying all the bloody violance like a sick phycopath, holding the grudge for all the negative reviews, experiencing the unbearable success that wasn't even possible to comprehend before, being shocked by the creation basically treated like a ioke, and having unbearable irrational energy to just go to a revange war. Like, of course it's gonna result in a villain arc sheech, what else did anyone on this planet expected?

Fun fact: the author of this story later admitted in a deviant art interview that he regretted the blog post he made and wished he took the criticism at the time. So he eventually learned his lesson
Yeah. He rewrote the story, I beta-read it... I sort of regret posting that blog post he made, though. I heard he's been doing fucked up shit. Not that I would know much about it - aside from when he needed something from me, we weren't really friends.
when i was a child, my friend convinced me sonic.exe was a interdimensional being that when it arrived at earth it would murder everyone. I was terrified lol
Honestly, he was intended to be exactly that in the original version of the Creepypasta. That's basically what the author actually said before any reboots happened
That part where the kid screamed "Is That Sonic.exe" even thought that's clearly Shadow gave me physical pain. I hope that kid grows up, remembers that moment, and starts to feel dread.
It's embarrassing, but it had to happen. And also him remembering that moment is not necessarily a good thing, it would be even worse if random people on the internet cyberbullied him just because he does not recognize a fictional black anthropomorphic hedgehog.
I've always thought Tails Doll was much creepier than Sonic.exe. He was put into Sonic R officially as a playable racer who can float over everything, and nobody knows why. There's no info about him or where he came from.
Tails Doll was way efficient than Sonic.EXE in terms of fear factor, in fact Tails doll being actually real reminds me of how the "Freezer" glitch from Saints Row 2 is believed to be a fake and cheap creepypasta character, only for it to reveal that the "Freezer" DOES exist
Tbh the NES Godzilla creepypasta just sounded like a legitimately fun game to play. Minus the demon being real and coming to steal your soul or whatever. Like, highly varied level concepts, mothra being less dogshit than in the original game, extra playable characters and cool new bosses? Sounded pretty tight. I’ve heard someone was trying to make it into a game but progress has been very slow.
It's legitimately cool. The pasta originated from the Bogleech forums, created by a user named Cosbydaf. Users there are fans of kaiju/monsters/etc, so the whole thing read like a love letter to that game, as well as the Godzilla franchise as a whole. While the fangame isn't finished, I've seen recreations of the levels where Red chases the player, and they're pretty impressive from the look of it.
The images that accompany the story are the best part. They're so creepy but cool. Imagine a fan game like that, or even better an original game with that art style? I'd play it
yeah I remember enjoying the story very much until the demon was real and caused the player physical pain. Just the image of the guy screaming in pain whilst cluthing his NES controller to defeat the pixel demon kinda ruined it for me. Until then AAA writing however
It's carried by the monster designs the author made for it, specially Red. The guy clearly knows his sprite work. But the actual story is nothing special, it's full of clichés of your typical videogame creepy pasta (possessed game, creepy images with no context to the overall story, if you lose in the game you die, etc) and the story completely falls apart in the last two chapters.
@@Xfushion2Thank you. I reread it somewhat recently and was pretty disappointed. It’s… fine. It’s not amazing writing though, but I will commend the writer for seeing it through and being fairly consistent for the whole thing. The images weren’t exactly as believable as I remembered especially since they were by and large clearly crammed with as many enemies as possible to show off the designs rather than trying to look like an actual level from a game. Cool sprites, cool monster designs (especially Red, holy fuck he’s cool), eh story up until the end where it shits everywhere and gets really bad. I think it just looks great compared to some of the other stuff that was popular like Jeff and Sonic.exe lmao
I think the reason why Sonic.exe is still so popular is the current analog horror trend: it's an old game, you can make it glitch and some fangames fuck around with your computer too, which makes you feel like you got a virus and is always pretty unsettling. It's sort of having the same treatment Five Nights at Freddy's had too, the base material fits the whole vintage aesthetic so it had an "analog horror" fan-remake. And in both cases it works better than the original story.
an analog series of sonic.exe had basically ended just a few days ago, called Needlem0use, personally i thought it was a fun watch, yeah the start was very rough with some unintentionally funny scenes that i can't help but always laugh when i see, but it starts to get better halfway through, it's great to see how creative people can get with these types of things
Honestly games like Godzilla nes and Ben drowned can get the same treatment and they're loads better written than sonic.exe and the writers are much better adjusted people
Could be worse man. Imagine you watch that film, Sonic becomes SuperSonic, and the kid besides you say "HO MY GOD IT'S SONICHU THE ELECTRIC EDGEHOG POKEMON!!!" That would be the proof we are in the darkest timeline.
As someone who plays old pc games, and for that very reason has file extensions turned on on my laptop, i still don't understand how people don't know that .exe basically is the heart of every windows program and application
@@TheUncivilizedNation Sonic OCS are in reality really creative! Of course not the ones made by children, but children who became artists today, have some really cool designs. Source: ( me who is in this fandom sice 2006 )
The fact that Sonic.exe not only had a resurgence in popularity but has outlasted practically every other creepypasta icon is still unbelievable to me.
It's because it's a Sonic creepypasta. I feel a lot of people baffled about this don't understand that when you give Sonic fans something, they'll _never_ let it go.
I feel the reason other creepypastas havent found the level of resurgence is probably because a lot of them are kinda have baggage from the past(the slender stabbing as the most famous example), but also because a lot of them would require so much changes and rewrites to keep it from being bound to the past, you might as make something orignal. I mean... how would you remake shit like Jeff the Killer, Ticky Toby, Happy Appy, etc. to fit in to modern day without falling back into the original trappings?
its probably because sonic has been having a huge upward trend in general cuz of how sega is actually making good choices, so as a side effect a below average creepypasta written by a child groomer (im serious about this, hes apparently gotten exposed) exploded into popularity again. and if this mf stuff can happen then i pray that sonichu gets the same treatment just to laugh even harder
@@xiantrit5887 it's funny that you say that, Sonic.EXE did have a cancelled reboot in 2017 made by JC but it only lasted for a really, really, really long First Chapter

Sonic.exe is the embodiment of edge. You take a franchise that is already steeped in edge and plop an edgy horror filter over it and put it in the hands of furries? It writes itself.
@@rainbow-qn6um Funny you mention that, I once saw a picture of Tails and Shadow as regular furries instead of Mobians. It was extremely cursed, I don't recommend it.
is a way Sonic.exe is an evolution of the Dark Sonic we caught a glimpse of, in Sonic X way back in the mid 00s , hooo boy you just had to be there that that shitty recolor of sonic fueled shitty fanfics, amvs and deviantart pages like nothing else until .exe came around
@@7U57HTJRYGHG I vividly recall a fan animation long ago where Dark Sonic picked a fight with Shadow and won, only for Tails to show up at the last second and stop him. It really gave off the implication that Shadow was a villain and this evil powered Sonic was the only reason he won. Kinda screwed my perception of Shadow as a kid.
In my own opinion, I think the reason Sonic.exe came back full swing was just the "hey you remember Sonic.exe from when we were 9? What happened to that?" factor. Another part of it is that the creator (JCTheHyena I believe) gave up the copyright (yes, you heard that right) of Sonic.exe to his girlfriend, she then caught him cheating with a minor, and sold it to some somewhat trustworthy individuals. It's honestly a crazy back story to say the least but now Sonic.exe is kind of handled as a multiverse where you can make anything, it gives off almost minecraft vibes for the infinite possibilities you could do with it. Pun completely intended
@MoloTurbo True, the fact that it exists at all is probably only because of how lenient Sega is with this stuff. If you swapped out sonic for Mario, Nintendo would've shut this stuff down years ago.
Yeah, these people don’t know how copyright works. I doubt anyone cares who made Sonic.exe, I did t find out for years and I still didn’t care. Creepypastas were never a way to get fame, especially a derivative one, it just becomes a part of the internet.
That bit on the 'I am God' image reminds me of a creepypasta inspired image that gives me the creeps still. It's a suicide mouse themed image that's basically just a title card Mickey with intense, beady, glazed over eyes and gratuitous blood spatter. The round, relatively small HyPeR ReAlsTIC eyes (probably the only time that trope actually works) look deeply unnatural on Mickey's face, and combined with his typical toothless grin, give it a frenzied "I'm going to shiv you and enjoy every second" stare that still puts me in a vigilant "get ready to fight" posture.
Sonic.exe is so fucking big, merchandising for it is fucking widespread now. My brother got a Sonic.exe plush from a claw machine. It's been vandalised by my sister with positive messages.
I was actually in a furry group chat with the creator of Sonic.exe about a year ago, the dude was completely insane. Writing in that verbose and "taking yourself too seriously" type of speech with the "fancy demonic all-powerful" character. He was completely fucking insane.
What is wrong with verbose, formal writing in a chat room? I mean, yeah, the dude is at the least egotistical (if not crazy), but his writing is not when he isn't mad.
I don’t know what you mean when you say that NES Godzilla had a horrible ending, when it was revealed that red was actually John Madden that was one of most terrifying plot twists of all time. Also that narration part on the rant was hilarious. Good vid.
@@FrostVer Writer had a brain fart when writing the ending (probably trying to force a scenario that would allow a sequel come to think of it, since NGC2 exists). At least the rest of it is good.
I think one reason why Sonic.exe is still popular is because a lot of the people who talk about it today were kids when it was released. I was probably 6-7 when I learned about it and it stuck with me. Now I’m 15 and the fan game sticks in my brain to this day
@@Piss_Off_Plz Well, most kids don't think critically about a game or say "nah this is too cliché". They see Sonic's face with blood pouring out of his eyes, they get scared
I honestly like how the internet has evolved in what scares it much like we as people do. It started with the screamers which as the creator of this video said preyed on the weak and vulnerable. Much like children who are spooked by everything really. Then we get to creepy pastas which I can compare to pre teens or early teens who have developed more of a tolerance for horror and can get spooked but still more willing to throw themselves at it and even partake. Then nowadays we get things like analog horror and ARG’s which prey on more psychological aspects which I think is the most mature aspect of horror. Idk this is just my own personal thoughts.
I’m so glad you brought up the original “I am god” image that was in the game. I remember being 11 years old, finding out about Sonic.exe, playing it, and coming across that image for the first time. I’m 21 now, and seeing it still fucks me up. I can’t look at it. I had to cover my screen when it was put up in this video because i just can’t deal with it.
Hey, so like, as an fan of Sonic.exe content I just wanna clear something up that I think should be mentioned. The creator [ Of the original story, not any of the fan-made content ], J.C the hyena was actually called out for interacting with minors in a not so family-friendly way [ Sending NSFW to minors, and doing something called ERP with minors, which is just roleplaying but heavy sexual themes thrown into it. ]. Not only that, he was also just a massive piece of shit. Now, I am not saying that he did or did not do what he did, since there are tons of other videos that can explain it better then I obviously can. But I would like to think the reason people made more fan-made content could just to shit on the creator and the original story, by making something of their own that people can go to. Think about it, since they found out that the creator turned out to be a big asshole, they flock to make their " own " version of the story and the characters, so that they don't have to feel bad about liking the concepts itself. Basically saying: " Oh, you made this thing? But you're also a fucking dumbass of a bitch? Well fuck you! I'm taking it and making it better then you ever could! " or also saying " I like this, but the creator is a bad person. What if I make my own version so that me and other people don't have to feel bad? " This is not to say that all sonic.exe fangames are just to prove that the original story was shit, or that they only make fangames just to piss off the creator. But ever since then, more fan-content has been poppin' in left and right, even after J'C was called out for this. Just goes to show that if you fucked up, people would remember you or your work more because of it.
@@Lucien_M Yea, that also happened too, a lot of people are not in support of J.C yet still like sonic.exe content. As at this point, the community just took it from him, rather it be due to his actions, or other reasons
About Ben Drowned, it's still going on, and a lot of shit has happened after the Creepypasta, but it's mostly very obscure. I never really read the ARG and other stories, but to put it simply: the statue that was following you was the kid Ben actually trapped in the game calling out Jadusable for help, while the entity within the game was B.E.N., or the Behavioral Event Network, made up of digitized cult members* merged together in one hive mind. After the B.E.N. and Jadusable shenanigans on the computer, B.E.N. takes over Jadusable's youtube channel. *The cult, called The Moon Children, made a website for their members that resets every 3 days, and the members eventually get digitized into the Majora's Mask cartridge along with Kelbris, their cult leader. Jadusable then plays the cartridge again and awakens Kelbris, getting digitized in the process. The cartridge then goes to a hotel in the middle of an apocalyptic pandemic a decade later where people are forced to play the game or else they die. B.E.N. comes back, telling us that the cult was just a lab rat for Xavius Solutions, a company that basically wants to create digitized worlds for people; case in point, the Metaverse but your consciousness gets uploaded onto a server and leaves your body behind. Sarah happens to be one of them and thwarts a plan by some former cult higher-ups to eliminate Kelbris. Sarah is able to awaken Kelbris and save all of the digitized people in the game, including Ben (The kid) and Jadusable. You can watch some of the videos on Jadusable's UA-cam Channel.
I also think a contributing reason for Sonic.exe still being relevant is the Sonic fanbases tendency to cling to weird or obscure characters. The cast from SatAm, or even the archie comics like scourge are still brought up, despite not appearing in official media in years. Even some fan made characters have large chunks of the community fixated, which .exe is one of, they're an eccentric group but one of the most passionate fanbases around.
In Sonic R Tails Doll was supposed to be a joke character but people were too creeped out by it's appearance that they made a whole creepypasta for the character, nowadays Tails Doll is just kinda...cute!
The creator has full knowledge of that it seems and it looks like the sequel story is going to retcon that part of the story to be the game connecting with his mind and memories and using that to torment him even further.
@@Crackedcripple right now there is a game being made by the guy who made it. and also thats why there hasnt been any update about the sequel for a while.

context for the creator's whereabouts: JC the Hyena (the creator's username) is now currently rotting in jail for trying to groom children in multiple ocations and doing softcore CP stories and roleplay, the current owner of the "Sonic.EXE IP" is JC's ex, who dumped him for being a disgusting waste of skin

I think the reason Sonic.exe is still around is cause of this fandom’s impressive ability to make sure nothing gets forgotten, especially things that have become popular or have become a big topic of discussion at one point or another. The Sonic fandom really is just built different, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.
Sonic.exe only seems to be so successful and unwilling to die mainly because the people changing it and making it better. It's funny how the reworks and revised versions made by different people are actually better, you'd think that would make the creator of sonic.exe even angrier, but they are technically getting what they wanted. P.s I love the ending of the video, it legit caught me off guard and when I rewatched it I couldn't help but laugh.
Its because sonic fans will be sonic fans literally every non cannon character or glitch or concept art is popular enough it will have its own fans and history in the rabbit hole its more of how art driven and creative the sonic community was made to be is what allowed sonic.exe to exist for so long
@@TailsınKanalı The good developers come from interest, and without said interest (from kids and furries), there wouldn't be actually good projects after.

3:50 based pick Nes Godzilla is a whole different level compared to other gaming creepypastas (Ben drowned is a close runner up for me, but it'll never beat nes Godzilla.) From the story itself, to the sprite works to the characters, everything about this story is awesome! And yes, I did enjoy the whole story, even if people hated the ending.
I too liked the ending, perhaps unorthodox for a creepypasta. It still is quite coherent with the plot points laid throughout the story, specially with the Melissa part working as a motivator for the player Zach to continue playing despite the game becoming more and more unnerving.

13:58 tbf, I don't think Mickey is all too relevant nowadays, aside of being part of brand iconography - I mean, most youngsters nowadays likely know him by Kingdom Hearts than anything else.
like honestly though... disney doesn't DO anything with mickey nowadays, it's kind of silly if you think about it outside of kingdom hearts, the last times i've ever heard people from the current younger generations even acknowledge The Mouse was in relation to fnaf fangames, friday night funkin mods, and/or creepypastas-- all of his appearances in which have a lot less to grab onto in the long term compared to the evergreen pastures of similar sonic fan content
I like how Epic Mickey was about bringing forgotten stuff to the foreground again, but Mickey himself became a background actor in the years after it. It's kinda funny.
I remember how insanely popular Sonic.exe was in 2012, finding out the author got pissed off it was moved to the Trollpasta wiki I lost it. The fangame made for it is the one sole reason it blew up like it did, no doubt. I can't throw shade at the dude who made it since it plays out exactly like the story described. However, I do like the positive little spin at the end of this video. Showcasing valiant efforts to make Sonic.exe a fairly well executed concept by making it more of a *spirit* or *ghost* who takes on Sonic's appearance. That Sonic PC Port game really impressed me, despite my dislike of the original Creepypasta's poor quality.
Y'all can laugh at the kid thinking Shadow is Sonic.exe, but I remember watching Majora's Mask 3D trailer showing Link's hollow statue and thinking "wow that's Ben!!!" 😂😂😂
Good video. But, I think a lot of people misunderstand what CreepyPastas are. Creepypastas, in their broadest form, are scary stories shared over the internet. The backrooms is a creepypasta, momo is a creepypasta. Its a scary idea that people all across the internet make more ideas about. They aren't a fad from the 2010s, no, the writers that make creepypastas and the people who read/listen to them, and also just the fun concepts that people share about creepy things is a still-strong community on the internet. But I understand the confusion because people often associate it with only slenderman, jeff the killer, or crappy lost episode/game creepypastas.
I think many people underestimate just how dedicated most of the Sonic fandom truly is. Sure Sonic.exe sucks, but it doesn't matter because that will always interest the children anyways because, well, they love horror and they love Sonic, so that's not the surprising part. The surprising part is just how much quality content is still being made in general to the point where they rival even the content being put out by Sega officially. Sonic Mania is only one example of a game that started off as a fan creation. What about Sonic Triple Trouble 16-Bit? Sonic Robo Blast 2? (Which has its own community of different games that was already made on top of another game) Sonic P-06? Archie and Sonic The Comic Online? A goddamn SATAM season 3? A whole community hyper fixated on the Chao World mode in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle? Even efforts to make more content for the first two Sonic Riders games and to fix Free Riders, *FREE RIDERS!!!* ONE OF THE WORST OFFICIALLY RELEASED SONIC GAMES OF ALL TIME, and it's now suddenly at least possible to tolerate! If there's such a community out there where they are willing to fix *fucking Sonic Free Riders* of all things, then I think it's safe to say that said franchise has a pretty loyal fanbase. Even Tails Gets Trolled, which barely has anything to actually do with Sonic, has a pretty dedicated fan circle of its own. No joke, if Sega kept treating their fans the way that Nintendo does then I don't think any of their goodwill would've ever materialized, and Nintendo is only able to get away with it since the beginning because they still occasionally pump out good games and have a huge monopoly on the whole industry, kinda like with Disney except people are more forgiving of Nintendo just because it has some of their favorite game properties. (Even when many of those are already dead) Sega tried to take down other non-Sonic related things before like with Streets of Rage Remake, but fortunately that shit has been shut down, although by then it was already far too late since it seems most people don't give a crap about it anymore apart from that one time a fourth official game came out. Literally the entirety of Sonic's continued existence today is owed to Sega being so heavily lenient on the Sonic brand, because I have no doubt it would've faded into irrelevancy after the Dreamcast otherwise. So yeah, I don't give a shit about Sonic.exe, or even just horror in general for that matter, but for every Sonic.exe or something genuinely terrible like Chris-Chan and his Sonichu there's a least a dozen other good things to make up for any of those bad eggs. (Pun not intended) Granted the same can be said for a lot of other fandoms too such as furries for example, but I think Sonic is one of the few that has people constantly trying to make a point that there can be honest talent and hard work put to use. If Nintendo wasn't so cutthroat and anti-consumer then I believe a lot of things related to them would've had just as big of a following with similar types of fan content. Maybe by then stuff like Star Fox, F-Zero, Donkey Kong Country, Earthbound, Chibi-Robo, or even other things they no longer own like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker would be more widely appreciated and accessible to as many audiences as possible. Mario and Pokémon seem to be the only ones really going on in the fan scenes anymore, and that's only because those franchises are already gargantuan. You'll still have a hard time finding things on anything else like those and even Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, Smash Bros., and Splatoon for some other examples though. But the point is that you will find very few ell known companies allowing for a fan community like this to thrive, (I think Capcom is also ok with it but they still have considerably less compared to Sonic) so we should be very thankful for this while we still can. *TL;DR: Autism powers have no bounds when it comes to Sonic*
Fun fact, the original sonic.exe artwork creator from the original game (the artwork fron 19:03) is still active, their name is ian_exe. They have a weird furaffinity account tho.
One Last Round is a case of them transforming the original work into something much bigger than it was. That version of the game is now genuinely freaky with all the ways your characters get killed, the environments you are surrounded in and the monsters Sonic turns into. It actually puts the “I am god” line which used to be seen as way too on the nose for the original story into something much more literal as you actually see Sonic.exe’s powers come into play during your run. I think this shows us that “old bootlegs turning real” stories has long past its expiration date in creepypasts. Just simply tell a story in the world of Sonic’s universe with a horror spin to it. Starved Eggman was another example of this and it felt much more authentic than other Sonic creepypastas
16:53 I have to digress here and say the Sonic.EXE fangame with the most "eldritch horror" feel is the _"Sonic.EXE: One Last Round"_ The spooky sonic never looks the same in it, he turns into mutated abominations (giant hands, a nest of spiders ect), takes over the background, his face warps into a new disgusting warped version every time he "talks" and takes over the acreen.
I will admit the OLR is more horrifying, but as far as characterization goes, EYX feels more eldritch. OLR's characterization is pretty similar to the original.
@@firestarex3544 My views are the polar opposite. To me OLR is the definitive "eldritch" one while EYX is the more "effective" one. EYX doesn't really have eldritch characteristics aside form maybe 1 or 2 transformations, while OLR morphs constantly and is in control of everything, like he already won. EYX on the other hand doesn't take control as much and we see him more "in person" rather than all around us.
I really loved the sequel to sonic.exe that the author made. Starfox 6664. I remember watching a youtuber making fun of it back in the day and it was really entertaining. It somehow managed to be even worse than Sonic.exe
I remember being spooked by Creepypastas back in the 2010's I would listen to them pretty consistently. At least that was my more edgy phase I guess lol.
Creepypastas were a really big in spanish and portuguesse oriented regions, originally used as a fleeting spooky short story with 1 image post on really cheap webites with no more than 2k entries, and were usually taken down because they got "last weak" while obviously keeping the most famous ones. Here in Argentina they had an exra charm to it, spanish language made it so they were easier to come up with but also with a lot of silly errors that just broke the feeling, becoming cheaper and less thought of, which made a lot of creepypasta's versions really bad (and pretty cringy by now standards) but getting refined into EXTREMELY scary crap at the time.
I'd argue the backrooms counts as an old creepypasta that's still popular today. It originated from a random 4chan post which just gave a creative description to a random creepy picture of an office someone found, and everything else grew from there.
Honestly, I agree that Sonic.EXE had potential but there were some problems outside of the Creepypasta itself. The whole reason why X specifically finding out Sonic the Hedgehog and is suddenly overly-obsessed like the average child is so weird when you take into consideration that X is a form of Dark Matter made outside of the Real World Universe, born in the Void. Like, wtf was JC thinking?? There's good concepts but this one really ruined it for me and some people. There was also a Sequel Creepypasta and it really didn't change much for EXE's Reputation. Same for the 2017 Rewrite

Popularity is a double-edged sword. One side can benefit the creator for getting recognition for his work and the other can benefit a toxic fanbase or even greed.
I'm so glad you went on a tangent about the original "I Am God" image. Even when I was a kid who loved/hated creepypasta, I always found sonic.exe so lame and goofy. But to this day, that image STILL gives me the creeps
I love Sonic.exe for all it's cheesiness I don't care. It makes me happy and it's entertaining. What the fandom has remade this character and story into is so cool.
The person who drew the original Sonic.Exe realistic face at the end of the fan-game is an absolute chad in art and drawing spooky scawy stuff. It literally makes it instantly look off cuz it's actually scary for me. I mean, I can look at it if it's small, but when I have it on full-screen, hell no.
7:59 You know... That's kinda the thought that always ran through my head when I'd see people simp for Jeff the Killer and them... I dunno why. I would have thought with all that gore and whatever other aspects people find "cool" or "scary" about them, that aside they would probably reek. You'd smell them before you'd seem, and the smell could quite possibly drive you away faster than anything. Maybe that's just one of the reasons these things never really got to me. Not in this way anyway. Also in that "I am god" image, I already hate being stared at but... I can't help but see the red pupils as little marbles on a surface. It's kinda distracting in a way. Takes away from the uncanny nature to me. Also also... Whatever we call "Majin Sonic"... That Sonic CD easter egg. It's scarier (to me) as an 8-bit/16-bit easter egg. More detailed drawings of it somehow take away from how creepy it is. But Sonic.exe and all that came with it like the one from PC port (even when he makes that face Red makes in NES Godzilla PC port) and EYX are kinda neat for the idea of deformed distorted demonic Sonics... (Ignoring that Fleetway Super Sonic is a thing that exists, but I guess he isn't "deformed").
I think it's still popular because of the "old pixel 400x300 game" idea, which summs up with the idea of "analog horror games" like from "fnaf vhs" or "walten files", that start like the usual friendly games, but then the atmosphere changes rapidly to horror elements and unnerving images (and this was the base of original Sonic.exe creepypasta btw). Heck, Sonic.exe has got its own analog horror series already. And as long as I can see, there are some analog horror elements in that Sonic.exy game, so it's quite bounded already.

I would've disagreed with the last point you made, but Security Breach exists, so you're right
an analog series of sonic.exe had basically ended just a few days ago, called Needlem0use, personally i thought it was a fun watch, yeah the start was very rough with some unintentionally funny scenes that i can't help but always laugh when i see, but it starts to get better halfway through, it's great to see how creative people can get with these types of things

Hey, so like, as an fan of Sonic.exe content I just wanna clear something up that I think should be mentioned.

This is not to say that all sonic.exe fangames are just to prove that the original story was shit, or that they only make fangames just to piss off the creator. But ever since then, more fan-content has been poppin' in left and right, even after J'C was called out for this.

I agree with your take on the NES Godzilla Creepypasta. Everything about it except the ending was great.

I think the reason Sonic.exe is still around is cause of this fandom’s impressive ability to make sure nothing gets forgotten, especially things that have become popular or have become a big topic of discussion at one point or another.
The Sonic fandom really is just built different, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.

The creator of Sonic.exe turned out to be a pedophile and a shitty person overall.

The pain of kids thinking Shadow is Sonic EXE brings me more pain and fear than any creepypasta ever could. Because it means I’m old because I grew up playing Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Adventure 2.

Nes Godzilla is a whole different level compared to other gaming creepypastas (Ben drowned is a close runner up for me, but it'll never beat nes Godzilla.)
From the story itself, to the sprite works to the characters, everything about this story is awesome!
@@piporindo5788 exactly! Plus it's something that's personal to him. Something he doesn't talk about to many people. All and all, it's a solid ending Imo.

13:58 tbf, I don't think Mickey is all too relevant nowadays, aside of being part of brand iconography - I mean, most youngsters nowadays likely know him by Kingdom Hearts than anything else.
like honestly though... disney doesn't DO anything with mickey nowadays, it's kind of silly if you think about it
outside of kingdom hearts, the last times i've ever heard people from the current younger generations even acknowledge The Mouse was in relation to fnaf fangames, friday night funkin mods, and/or creepypastas-- all of his appearances in which have a lot less to grab onto in the long term compared to the evergreen pastures of similar sonic fan content

@@mlgnoob4374 exactly
You are not wrong there, I totally agree with you on that. That’s how I feel too.
16:53 I have to digress here and say the Sonic.EXE fangame with the most "eldritch horror" feel is the _"Sonic.EXE: One Last Round"_
The spooky sonic never looks the same in it, he turns into mutated abominations (giant hands, a nest of spiders ect), takes over the background, his face warps into a new disgusting warped version every time he "talks" and takes over the acreen.

@@Haispawner indeed!

You know...
I find the "I AM GOD" pic to be hilarious. Hilariously stupid that is.

Feel like the analog horror series should’ve been mentioned in the video. Interesting take
