I live on the northern edge of Playa, in Ciudad Mayakoba. 28 years living in Mexico, 3 in Playa. Love it. By the way the lady in the video is gorgeous. Just sayin.'
With the prices they mentioned it's actually comparable to the nicest areas in Thailand especially when you calculate no longer needing visa fees. If the channel is interested I'd love to compare and contrast, I lived in Thailand for 3 years in different areas.
I agree with all of that. The only challenge is the time difference. If you have US based clients you have to interact with in the USA daytime. I experienced that first hand. 3 and 4 am Zoom Meetings are not fun.
Playa is a lot more reliable unless you are in a developement that has backup generators, and their own source of Power, like KAN & Aflora which I've done videos on, on this channel.
As a Montrealar I dream of living in the south but unfortunately my job requires me to be physically here.. if i was working in something that I could do remotely, I would've been there 10 years ago.
Which is better for snorkeling, and scuba diving? I am a recent widower, and an considering moving abroad, with $3,000-$4,000 a month income, plus a fair amount of cash in the bank...
Well it's only an hour drive in between each. I live in Playa Del Carmen for this case and I find my money goes further here. I have a cost of living coming up as well.
Same….I went to Playa and Tulum for the first time in 1998. The places were amazing. Especially Tulum. Only real tourists you came across were Mexican or Euro’s. Now they are just a punch line for people posting on their social that “they discovered” this amazing place. 🤣😂
Once you hit DAC your electricity bill can be from 7000-11,000 pesos for 2 months. Solar panels are a must unless you enjoy mold around your home or apartment. Just use the dry mode and save 50% on your power bills. Cancun and Playa are very expensive for a 3rd world towns. An average hotel is $300 a night while a 5 star all inclusive hotel will be $700-1000 USD a night.
"Just use the dry mode and save 50% on your power bills." so true! I do this all over latin america. Not sure if cancun and playa are considered 3rd world towns now though. They have all the amenities that a big coastal city would have elsewhere.
@@living_in_latamMerida is a city. Cancun and Playa del Carmen are not. They are villages at best. I’ve lived there for 4 years, I know. If you need a specialist doctor, off to Merida you go.
@@MEN101 That is wildly exaggerated. I have a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home in Playa and have many visitors and guests in all seasons. I have mini split AC units in living area plus in all bedrooms. Common sense use of ceiling fans to augment the AC keeps things fresh and comfy. My largest 2 month electric bill has been $1,400 pesos (about $70 USD.) I can't even fathom how it would be possible to run my electric bill up to $7,000 to $11,000 pesos. That's bizarre.
A and if I run my air it cost me $300 or more a month I live in playa. Water cost me $50 a month. Rent for a house that is in need of renovations cost me $700 a month so if your on a fixed income of $2,000 a month is almost imposible especially if you have kids. Its very expensive to live in playa. Food andas is very high. Gas is over $5,00 a gallon. So it is very expensive. Jobs only pay $20 for a 12 hour day. So you have to be honest. Wages aredangerously low. Lower Then poverty le el
To be real and honest a $2000 fixed income with kids is low anywhere. If in the US or Canada that may not even cover rent. Yes if you plan on moving to Playa Del Carmen, Playa is one of the more expensive places in Mexico. With modern amenities etc. If your on a $2000 fixed income we would suggest you look at more of the surrounding areas that may not have the city prices. Also most aren't looking to relocate to Mexico to work in Mexico, because you will get a Mexico wage.
What other questions can we answer?
Great Information, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Ironic how wages are stagnant, infrastructure is better up North but we get extremely price gouged
I was just having this conversatiuon yesterday. This needs to change for the locals. It doens't average out and it's not fair.

Glad you enjoy Playa, Ciudad Mayakoba is a great choice!
What about sargassum seaweed problem? Can you actually swim and even walk on the beach?
There isn't sargassum right now. There was a couple months ago, but nothing right now. It comes and goes.
The locals harvest the seaweed and use it as a fertilizer.
@ oh I didn’t know that. Thank you for letting me know. I’ve seen the excavators and dump trucks. Love that they are re-using it.
It will get nasty this Spring
Not necessarily. It's unpredictable regardless of season. In general last year there was much less sargassum than prior years.
You guys should try Thailand or Vietnam, much cheaper, much better food and no issues with safety unlike in Mexico.
It's on my list of places to go to check out. Thanks!

How stable is the electrical power in Tulum VS Playa ?
Playa is a lot more reliable unless you are in a developement that has backup generators, and their own source of Power, like KAN & Aflora which I've done videos on, on this channel.
Please let the lady talk.
agreed. lol

I totally understand where your coming from. I used to work in a job that was serviced based and couldn't leave myself.
What are available internet speeds? I'm a filmmaker and need fast connections.
the fastest that I've seen in Playa is 1000gb. I also use it for videos it's very fast.

Playa better for scuba, especially because of proximity to Cozumel.
I remember being in Tulum in 2011 when it was for backpackers and hippies.. now its super expensive, hipsters and yuppies.
Yeah things change over the years, You can still find your backpackers and hippies

What do you do for living? Is wifi very reliable?
I work online full time and wifi has been reliable. Except when the power goes out. Which could be once every few months.
