You ever sit and ponder how they can over engineer the hell out of the simplest circuits, yet they cannot figure out how to keep the water on the outside of the vehicles? Hmmm....
i have driven my 2000 jeep grand 4.0 through water coming over the hood during hurricane season here in florida and all i did was change all the fluids and everything still works perfect and that was 2 years ago.. and i only paid 2500 for it...german engineering i guess ....nice work as always keith....
Absolutely agree.... just replace both, avoiding a comeback. Versus trying to clean up the terminals & connectors, which may or may not work, meanwhile, wasting time. Follow the water..... great tips
wow 5 hours according to the clock in the video. i had an issue on a mint condition 2000 mercedes i forget it had a steering module that was bad for the left turn signal
What you call a 'push clip' we call a 'scrivet' over the ditch! I'm sure yours is the 'technical term'🤭 great vid Keith, good to see the Autologic back out, seems like a nice piece of kit! 👍🏼
Are you kidding! You could never take up to much of my Time! I always learn more about these cars with every video. Thank you for taking time to make these videos they are a tremendous help!
Geesh, MB makes GM's engineering look brilliant. Couldn't have picked a worse location for a friggin battery!! 6 hours labor, $800 for battery replacement, lol ... oh, then $400 for the battery. 🤣 Good stuff Keith. I now know to follow the water with these gems! 👍
6 hours? If you're a moron or a crook perhaps. All you need to do is raise the front seat fully forward to expose the battery compartment area. Take out the vent and the battery can then be removed after taking off the leads. Doesn't take much time if you've done it before. Should take south of half-hour to replace the battery if you have any common sense. I own an ML and have replaced the battery myself, so I'm talking from personal experience.
In this case, the logical repair for a DIY’er is different than for a professional. If the owner found the water damage, it would make sense to attempt a repair with DeoxIT or WD-40, as it would be easier to gain access to the module the 2’nd time around for re-cleaning replacement after figuring it out the first time. And the DIY’er would have more incentive to avoid a reprogramming charge.
Keith it's hard to believe how all these European and American cars are so prone to corrosion, and the fact they already have the pigtails in stock tells me they know when they design them that sooner or later they will corrode. Just my opinion. Good video just look for the crusties.
I have a 2009 Audi S5 and it has very similar plugs and electrical lay out ; Every opportunity I get (working on other components or mods gives me access to connections) I unplug every connection I see and coat the female end with dielectric grease and then reconnect. Including the interior and under-hood connections . I have yet to have any intermittent electrical problems. Thank you for Vid and detailed component shots.
interior connectors don't have weather sealing (OEMs are cheap) at least on Nissan and that Mercedes didn't have any either. They are banking on the vehicle not getting water inside it which is usually true unless you have a European car 🤣🤣 apparently. It must be a luxury option lmao..
Warum einfach, wenn es auch kompliziert sein kann? (Sign on the wall in the MB engineering dept ) "Why make it simp!e when complicated will work" Its the German way. Nice find. Thanks for the video.
For someone unfamiliar with MB finding that SAM module sure would be a task. Aftermarket service information can be vauge. As always Keith great video. Thanks for sharing.
Great video thanks brother. I won't even ask why they do this stuff. Water tight connectors don't work in side or outside. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
Great Video does a sam replacement require reprogramming? I have a 2004 ML350 with similar issue. When the lights are on the right light only works when turning on the blinker.
Do engineers for European automobiles design for a different type of water molecule on their continent?the kind that does not infiltrate their electrical connectors? maybe for the export models they should make things a bit more watertight.😣 Thanks for the video Keith.
I have a good idea, lets use a flasher relay instead of all the fancy dancy stuff ?. Keith the clock was going crazy when you first switched the ignition on ? Nice video.
i think other techs wait for you to start talking before they pull the triggers on their air tools, just for a laugh.. 🤔something i might do.. Anyway, good stuff as usual.
Friend of mine had the same problem with the headlight and Sam. When the Sam was unplugged, the pins that were corroded broke off. I removed the cover and found corrosion on the pins of the ic chip on one side of the board. Corrosion across the pins creates resistance which can cause anything from hundreds of false DTC's to no start conditions. I unsoldered and replaced the broken pins, cleaned up the corrosion with electronic cleaner and a tooth brush. Worked good as new. I also noticed that it wasn't water that caused this issue but the battery. Batteries need to vent and this case it was venting directly on the metal under the seat corroding the metal around the battery. What's around the battery? The Sam unit. Most vehicles have vinyl tubing connected to the vent tube of the battery leading outside the vehicle. If there's not a small hole for the vent tube, drill one the same size as the vinyl tube and force it thru the hole.
I have the same problem with the front indicators left and right. Then they work then they don't. My front Sam is clean and dry. Connectors are also clean and dry. Where is the other connector you said.
Yes good idea to replace all new so you can charge customer more and get nick name, the stealer ship $😹 but for me, i just take a q tip with rubbing alcohol and clean the corrosion and is good as new
You ever sit and ponder how they can over engineer the hell out of the simplest circuits, yet they cannot figure out how to keep the water on the outside of the vehicles? Hmmm....
But then we wouldn't have fishbowls on wheels! 🐠
why would they want to keep the water out ;)
This isn't "over engineered", rather under engineered and over complicated.
The more of my time u take up the better!! I just hope that a little of your diagnostic skill osmosis onto to me!
Are you kidding, taking too much of our time? lol! We're lucky you bless us with YOUR time! Thank you!
Judging by the clock in the car, he used up at least 12 hours!
Love the phone chime as you disconnected the SAM connector Keith xD
Keth my time is your time that's how I learn all this good stuff you show us thxs.
"too much of my time"?
Nope waiting for your videos!
We've got your secret now Keith. It's NLA Time. 5 min Diag and video for Keith. Real humans, almost 5 hours.
Customer has a 2006 ML350. No brake likes, no turn signals. Intermittent. Appreciate this video..

Let me guess: $1000 module must be replaced just to get the signal working.
Dont apologize about the noise.. sounds like I'm watching a South Main video with Josh hammering away on the impact 🤣🤣🤣
2:20 how many of us looked at our phones? LOL.
Another Euroquarium. Who'd have thought? Thanks Keith!

No it's not, as a DIY'er I want it done right the first time, i don't want a buy me some time until it fails again

Timelord status confirmed. :D
Que the airhammer and impact as soon as Keith starts filming.
Sounds like a freightliner, same problems, same names of parts. Except I see a lot of headlight harnesses rubbing on oil pans.
Thank you Keith. Good job. Have a blessed and safe week.

nice keith, mercedes day today for us. at first i thought you had extended your abilities to time travel
Aeswave should come out with a water detector 😆 you would think that a connectors weather seal would do its job at least right? Good share bud 👍

OMFG that's some crazy engineering there. Guess it doesn't rain at all in Stuttgart?
Made in Alabama for Benz .
@@NewLevelAuto But undoubtedly designed in Stuttgart by those wacky German engineers!
Eurotrash vehicles give me so many headaches, have you come across any Mercedes with the ECM full of engine oil yet?
One every 5 months or so
Good grief. Here we go again. But this is good to know.
was that the clock going crazy in the dash lower left
It was resting it's own time after module disconnected
Porsche's are the same. Modules under the passenger seat + soft top = great idea.
My time couldn't have been used in a better way.
Great info Keith!
was the clock moving fast or did you discover time trave l in the past? or was it the future???we know it wasnt a present lol
Amazing. I agree , just change the parts 👍
Well done thanks a lot it's like my problem in the same car and fixed again thanks a lot 😊
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, Sir.

Nice video.
Battery was disconnected, a servo motor clock was setting it's time again, time is obtained from the radio
@@jusb1066 Thanks i thought my mind was in outer space.
Quite strange then I never had any water intrusion with my '96 volvo 940....or is it the newer stuff ?
Only ingress problems with the Volvo is the rear tailgate windows sometimes leak.
Otherwise they are usually dry.
Volvo make great cars back then.
looks like the kinda area condensation would build up creating water droplets, cycle repeats and repeats, over time krusties.
Bobs your uncle! Finally found the pink and white 😂 I hate MB terrible to work on. Thanks Keith
Water intrusion. Gee. Who would ever think that would happen in such a tight place (sarcastically said)! !
can you program the front sam with autel or does it has to be factory scanner.many thanks

Great video! 👍 At least you've gotten faster now, you're going straight for the water! 🤣🤣🤣
How was the fault first identified? Everyone knows BMW and Mercedes drivers don't use the turn signals!

PUT THE

did you fix the clock too ;- )
Hahaaaa. Certainly not
Proof that time flies
I have the same problem with the front indicators left and right. Then they work then they don't.
My front Sam is clean and dry.

Where is the other connector you said.
My fault codes say short to ground. Tested all the viable wires.
Jees, how to replace battery - start by removing passenger seat. Ministry of crap design. Great video.
So that's where the blinker fluid goes..
Do you have to cut the carpet to get their?
Do the sam need to get programming if i buy it on ebay?
Now I know why I keep driving my 2001 Honda Civic. LOL!
Guess the car is not submarine rated. Same problem with Tesla, haha.
Thanks for the video.
Thank you very much
Why is the analog clock spinning so fast!!!!!
Setting it's time auto magically after a battery disconnect
I was thinking Keith had a time machine.....lol
Each time I fix a water ingressed euro vehicle I am thankful they aren't building ships and submarines.
Do you find the Autologic speaks German better than any other?

Unbelievable fish tanks
Remind me never to get a M.B.
