There was another problem caused by greedy dealers adding surcharges to the sticker price . I went to my local dealership to look at a new 454SS when they came out in 1990 , they had tacked on an additional $10,000 ( 10 K ) to the MSRP . I told them " good luck with that " , and they sat on it for almost two years before selling it .

I truly miss my Syclones, they were the most bang the buck little trucks/vehicle you could get, I drove one cross country a couple of times and it never disappointed. Low maintenance and always ready to jump. Great vehicles, initially they were to cost $45,000 , but when they didn't sell (only 3,000 made) prices dropped and people got lucky to be able to afford a quick little race truck. Great video, thank you for making and posting this , it brings back some great memories! Liked and subbed!

Yea love big HP NA motors. Australian GM Holdens utes used to have world's fastest ute in the Guiness world records. NA 6 litre LS . have to check the numbers on how fast compared to this video pickup.
This video was a time machine for me, I actually sold the syclone and typhoon out of Hallett Pontiac in Miami now closed. I always took the Typhoon out for lunch and not the Syclone because it was roomier. That Typhoon would whip on 911's and be comfortable at the same time.
There are a lot of narrators who just phone it in and rely on snippets of stupid clips to flesh out their vid but this guy is next level with great narrating and really good videos. Good work mate respect from the UK
I'm sure we all remember the adds and the boasting. I saw the truck take out a Ferrari at a dragstrip in 1991 as part of the Nationals for NHRA in Denver. I never have forgot that moment. Someday I will have one of these.
Damn, the Banks 5.0 N/A stroked 4.3 V6 made 30 more horsepower than the Ford 5.2 voodoo V8!!! That’s crazy! With an N/A pushrod V6 that made 140hp stock, an engine with zero aftermarket support at the time!
Proof that GM can build anything they want when they want to. I'm not big on GM, but I do very much admire their research department and it's accomplishments. Legendary would be putting it lightly.
As a kid I was obsessed with the syclone. It wasn't until I got my license I was able to experience one sorta. 1st generation eclipse and talons were the first turbo cars we tuned then on too vr4 3000gt. As a kid mom had a Shelby Daytona. So I had been rather into turbo configuration of all kinds. My buddy traded a 3000gt vr4. For a typhoon. And when it was running it was legit street machine. When being the key word.
It’s crazy just the regular 4.3 vortec was a pretty stout decently quick motor for the time, I had an opportunity to go for a ride in both the cyclone and the typhoon, very nice interior and insane acceleration, also they sounds pretty dang good for a v6
My best friends has a black Syclone with 8,500 original miles. Previous owner installed a beautifully fitted 150 N.O.S. kit. And,..... it is flawless. They look so wide and fat when its in front of you. All-wheel-drive bliss too. The very first time he let me drive it,....I got pulled over. If your rolling about 45 or 50mph,.. and you fkn mat that S.O.B.??? You better be strapped tight. Its beyond impressive. I've never seen that truck take an L on the street. And that 4.3,....0-60mph is BS. That thing got to 60 and even more impressive,....100mph in a flash. So good.
It didn't sell well because the dealers were putting $15K premiums on them because they were limited production vehicles. I know this for a fact because I tried to buy one in 1991 when I was back from the ME with 6 months worth of combat pay in my pocket.
My V8 S10 doesn't see anything close to 500lbs in the rear, plenty of room for groceries, laundry, and my small toolbox. Even dme beds and equipment. I would hardly call the Syclone useless.
As a mechanic of 23 years, an engine builder and a turbo RB owner- I must say, I disagree with your comment about water to air coolers... Air to air coolers are very good and definately have their place in the street car scene. We use air to air coolers on heaps of high end street cars over here in Australia, and you never have to worry about the water temp going up after a couple of runs and having to pull a bunch of timing if you have knock sensors or rattle your motor to death... Air to air coolers work much better with repeated use if they have sufficient air flow (like when making a 1/4 mile run or a roll race)... I have a 600mmx400mmx120mm air to air in my front bar and even in fairly hot weather manipulation it cools my inlet more than sufficiently to run 25psi+ on normal pump gas up to temps of around 35degs C
Great video guys, just happened to run across this as we are knocking the dust off our all original bone stock 27,000 mile Syclone. It really is incredible interesting the range of people who know or don't have a clue about these trucks and what they were. Even today, 30+ years on, they are incredible machines capable of incredible things.
The Dodge Little Red Express Truck was extremely fast for a mid 1970s truck as it was equipped with the Dodge 360 engine which was extreme overkill for a step-side truck. I do believe the car magazines that tested the Dodge Little Red Express Truck said that the truck ran low 14s stock, which was even faster than the Trans Am that same year.
I had a 93 Typhoon many years ago. I could keep that truck on the line holding the brakes and building enough boost that the front wheels would actually start spinning before i even let it launch. The race was over in the first 100 feet for almost anything that dared to try. Forest Green with Grey cladding, Concept Neeper Neptune Chrome wheels and four 12s in the back - and was still beating Grand Nationals at will.

I have a 92 typhoon number 2002 upgraded forged internals. I surprised a few mustangs from a dead stop. people underestimate how effective awd is in a vehicle. It even will launch fast on wet surfaces. Can move in snow as long as it's not deep.
The Sylcone's load capacity of 500 lbs can be increased with either Rear Air Shocks or Coil Helper Springs, thus the Syclone would still be able to perform as it was originally designed.
I subscribed as soon as I seen you were even willing to do a video on a syclone. I had a typhoon years ago. Which led me to my current gnx. Keep up the good content brother.

Forgotten Legends... AWESOME! Keep it up. I had a typhoon back in the '90s. I wish I kept it. Even a fox chassis mustang right now is becoming expensive as collectors hoard the a unmolested/stock ones.
I owned a '92 Typhoon, which I had restored completely. The body had rust, the paint was scratched up and faded, the plastic parts were damaged and it needed a lot of care. I spent around 3000€ in total in getting it restored, and 1500€ on building the engine. By the end of the year, I had a fully restored Typhoon, with the engine making 440hp. It was a really fun project and to this day, it's a car which I regret having sold, much like I regret having sold my '86 Grand National and '89 Skyline GT-R.
I always heard the car insurance was crazy on these GMCs. Maybe that's why they didn't sell well . Back in the '90s I worked at a Pennsylvania Manheim Auto Auction detail shop. And I got to drive these and many other cars. This was a lot of fun I was surprised the red line was it like four and a half Grand.

Bro you be snapping!! Been with you for a while. Keep going!!
