Great video! I've taken apart a lot of computers, but always shy away from any Apple product. Your video gave me confidence that I can do this. Thanks for the clear, concise instructions!
Craig! Awesome. Glad to hear that this video helped you. We often doubt ourselves anytime we are doing something for the first time. But as you know, if we never try we never overcome our fears. I’m glad to be of service. God Bless
This is fantastic! I just got mom a refurb so she could have a laptop in stroke rehab. The hinge is loose, but not enough at this point to mess with it. But when the time comes, I'll do this! THANKS!
Macbook Air 11 i7 medio 2015 is still the best laptop Apple ever made. Upgraded it of course with 2TB ssd. Everything has been working like a charm for some years but today I discovered the plastic hinge cover wasn't put back in its place properly. That\s where your video came in. Thanks a bunch!
Excellent fix! Can't believe I did it myself!! Side question: do you have a preferred source for replacement parts? My hinge cover was already cracked and, now that I know I can replace it myself, I want to do it! MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015)
But you have damaged the plastic wire cover because you were using pliers to lift it. You can see how the plastic is bent when you remove it and when you put it back.
Congratulations to the video. My mac screen (Macbook Air early 2014 A1466) is loose and I'm looking for the hinge to replace it, I looked on the internet but I couldn't find it. Do you have a reference from where to buy it?
hi. quick question: i used your video about 6 dos ago and it helped a lot but has recently began loosening again (no big dal. i expects that). so i watched your video again and retightened the screws but this time the screen is just as soon as before. any advice?
Hey bro, nice video. Helped me a lot, but could you actually show, how to get the hinge wire cover off? I broke mine, trying to get it off. Everything else went fine, so thumbs up!
Tip: the hinge cover doesn't snap on the inner side, it snaps on the outer side, then you need to slide it sideways to lock it in. You can't just snap it in.
Great video! It was just what I needed to encourage me to fix the loose hinges on my A1466 MacBook Air. Thanks for taking the time to make and post it! Much appreciated!! :-)
Prob the computer is done but somebody has an expensive Mac book pro computer and they didn’t take care of it by holding it with the screen dangling. The hinges got loose and they needed something behind to to keep it stable. One day, their screen started glitching as heck and would only keep stable if it were exactly 90 degrees. Is this fixable to bring to a tech place??? Please respond
Yes, a tech store can fix this. Is sounds like the internal cable that connect the screen to the base has been compromised. They can attach a new cable is that is the root of the problem. The worst case is they will offer to replace the whole screen
5:00 mounting back that black bar is harder than micro soldering ram slots. I had to remove internal side stoppers with a cutter in order to place it properly
Since I do not know which MacBook Air you have... I have attached a link for you so you can find replacement screws. These screw should be the same for all MacBook Airs from 2010-2017. Just copy and past in the whole link in the address bar I pasted below. Let me know if this helps. www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/MacBook-Air-13-Inch-Late-2010-2017-Lower-Case-Screw-Set/IF188-099?o=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA3NX_BRDQARIsALA3fIJqttOmyYpY-bIGfpO8kN4pcrJ79-VJW3uaLQi420s23aZnH-UIc1IaApDeEALw_wcB
This is good for hinge hardware that is loose, but does NOTHING to help if the friction affecting movement of lid/screen itself is insufficient to keep lid in proper position.
Fonzy, Glad that worked out for you. These things cost too much to have these sort of problems. And I don’t like paying someone else to fix simple problems. Keep Me posted if you do anything mew or want to see another Mac DIY bideo
you just made me unscrew a macbook air without any result. the only result that i've got is breaking the plastic cover and now i can't put it back. it doesn't fix the screen hinge issue at all. thanks, now i need to buy a new plastic and i must wait until i can use my macbook again. the hinge itself is loose and to reapair it you need to buy a new one.
Hello thanks for this vid we followed all instruction but cover still floppy, can you suggest any other possible solutions? Could the actual hinge unit itself be loose and can we replace it? much thanks - cliffatcliffworksdotnet
Cliff, if it is still floppy, I suggest that you take it to a local apple fix it shop. Here is Arizona we have “You Break It We Fix Store” they can typically resolve the issue same day. Or you can take it to an Apple store or BestBuy and they can replace the hinges. Maybe the hinges are worn. Typically it is just loose screws but of the hinges themselves are stripped they may need to be replaced.
@@TMDDTM Hi just saw your reply and thank you! here in Tokyo we don't have BestBuy Stores but do have Mac repair shops. Will try them. Apple won't touch older models.
Thank you for doing this video I fixed mine it was very similar to this model

Thank you sir. Really useful 😊 PS my mid 2013 macbook air after many years still rocks
Great video, thanks buddy, just what I needed

Thank you for this! The best video on this fix by far. Your help made it easy to fix this!
I'm still nervous but feel a LOT better about attempting this fix myself! Thank you!!

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015)
Would we need a Pentalobe 2.0 to open the bigger screws?
Thank you for an easy fix! Great video that helps me fix an aggravating problem!
But you have damaged the plastic wire cover because you were using pliers to lift it. You can see how the plastic is bent when you remove it and when you put it back.

Why was the triange covers removed at the first place?
Excellent. Helmed me replace my batter and my plastic strip (that was cracked).

simply replace entire display - which you should have done from the start
Hey bro, nice video. Helped me a lot, but could you actually show, how to get the hinge wire cover off? I broke mine, trying to get it off. Everything else went fine, so thumbs up!
The whole plastic hinge part snapped when I was trying to remove it, do you have any tips how to remove it without snapping?
Tip: the hinge cover doesn't snap on the inner side, it snaps on the outer side, then you need to slide it sideways to lock it in. You can't just snap it in.
Great video! Thank you for sharing!
I just tried to tighten the henge screws and fallowing the video stop by step but the screen is still loose what do I do
Great video! It was just what I needed to encourage me to fix the loose hinges on my A1466 MacBook Air.
Thanks for taking the time to make and post it! Much appreciated!! :-)
My pleasure! Glad I could be of assistance.
You can do it for sure
Excellent video! Thank you so much...
Thanks, this was helpful ... fixed. my floppy screen.
Nice Job!!!
do you not respond to questions on here?
Great informative video. TFS!
Awesome video man, I am gonna try this on my MacBook air, but I have to admit it those hair thin wires make me a bit nervous.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Chris, just be gentle. You can do it. Let me know how it turns out.
Peace king i hope all is well, do they make extension for that video cable ? i ready to yoga my mac air...
Gershwin, I’m not sure what you mean? “You are ready to yoga your Mac?”
What do you mean?
@@TMDDTM i was hoping i can extend my cable and make the laptop flip open 180deg to use as a tablet
This still did not fix the loose hinge after tightening both sets of screws. I think the hinge itself is loose in mine :(
Same here 😂

Supremely helpful!

note: on the inside of the bar I preserved internal stoppers on the side facing outside, just removed internal stoppers facing inside

i tighten the screw but still loose. why
can not fixing this actually destroy the laptop?

Great vid. Broke the hinge cover (that plastic is brittle), but replacement is $8. Hinge is slightly more stiff.
