For PRX, that comp is really nice for them as it allows them to be spaced together better for trades while being still flexible and aggressive. When they had a Raze, Yoru or Jet they always had someone getting picked off really quickly. Harbor compliments that style really nicely as you said.

I’ve been playing Harbor a ton since he released, and I can confirm that the wall can cover Rafters, CT, and Drop, although in order to fully cover CT you need a bit of finesse. Looking at the minimap and going “okay what can the wall cover” I’m also noticing a ton more areas the wall can cover, for instance an alternate wall that can cover door exit, Sand, CT, and Drop, and many other interesting areas

Yea, I’ve seen so many dumb Harbor takes. One of the most frequent is people saying that Cascade is bad and that people will just blindfire the Cascade. That is actually absurd. Cascades provide so much pressure because you can’t possibly blindfire the entire width of the wall, people already miss spraydowns when trying to defend a bomb defuse that is smoked off. How do they expect to kill someone behind a moving wall usually at different height elevations. Also, players don’t have to be behind the wall, it could be a fake and it could be combo’d with other abilities. Especially if its used against an Op, there is such a low chance that an Oper hits a blind hit through that wall. Also, if there really is such a risk at getting sprayed, Harbor could easily cove behind to wall to allow his team to run up without taking damage. Beyond that, cascade is like a poormans omen blind. If the wall goes through someone you are probably winning that duel. Due to how a lot of Harbors util originate from his body, cascade really helps him take things like mid control to get into position to throw his util. Also, cascade is Harbors best stalling/defensive ability. When an execute comes in Harbor can cascade to split the enemies in half allowing him to take a duel thats in his favor. All he has to do is get one or two kills and stall long enough for the rotators to show up. Cascade is also like the main way to cause chaos with Harbor, when paired with a cove lineup or his Hightide the enemies have almost not choice but to get overwhelmed dealing with all the fast moving walls. Its really hard to understand what is happening in the moment. Cascade is what allows him to take space aggressively, and without cascade he’d be like any other controller. The fact that they just gave him two cascades is insane and Harbor feels so great to play now because he just has so many options. He’s like the skye of controllers, he can just pop util off the jump and never have to worry about having util near the end of the round. Beyond that, Harbor util is amazing for retakes. There are very few agents that are good at retakes. I really agree with you about Harbors abilities seeming simple but being deceptively strong/complex. In particular I think Harbors abilities are on par or even more complex than Astra due to the sheer number of possibilities and the fact that you can benefit from using lineups on Harbor, as well as throwing all his util while you are running with your team on the execute. There is so much theorycrafting that goes into playing Harbor properly and I think this is why PaperRex didn’t look amazing with Harbor yet. If you fuck up a piece of Harbor util, the enemy will use it against you. For example, I realized that the fact that Harbor can bend the wall does not mean that you should try to wall across a rafters area, its damn near impossible to make a 90 degree turn with hightide and then get it to straighten out enough to not leave a place on the ledge for the enemy to push through the wall and stand on. Also, you’ll probably want to have a handful of different executes for each area you want to take on the map in order to prevent the enemy from recognizing what the strat will be. There is also this crazy dance where you want to make lineups that are pretty easy to throw on the run, and especially with having to stop cascade, there is so much potential for players to multitask. I’d argue, that you are probably playing Harbor wrong if you are just sitting back in a safe area smoking everything, like with the way Harbor is designed, you kinda want to be towards the front in a position to trade your team mates.

I think it was to prepare for a possible push. Stinger already has so few bullets, you wanna get as many as you can for a situation like it and since he thought he's keeping them in check by jump peeking, he thought he was safe. It's still a bad misplay but I can see why he did it.
I think with him getting a 2nd Cascade, it actually gives him some capacity to stall as well. Not a huge amount and it's obviously not the ideal way to use cascade but I think it does make him a touch more viable as a solo controller even if you don't play at light speed like PRX do. I'm excited to see what more pro teams can do with him.

actually viper still can smoke off the entire A site despite the fracture change. there's a smoke orb lineup u can do from drop that lands on the double stack orange boxes, if u get it in the corner u can block the entire rafters vision, coupled with the wall to block off site & sand u have a perfect smoke. unfortunately only 10 seconds.

i do think harbour’s best map is definitely fracture tbh, with the new map design i really feel it is perfect for him. can see him being viable on pearl(not funny 😡) and haven too but i do think he will be really viable on fracture, and even replace brim as the standard smoker on fracture
Thats what I find odd. I’ve been making like full on stratbooks with lineups and shit for Harbor and despite everyone saying Fracture is good for him, I’ve been putting it off because Fracture seems less obvious to me. I definitely think the early wall on Bmain is great from PRX when coordinated with other people pushing into tunnels or dropping trips down or flash pushing through. However thats not very useful in a ranked environment, but even for pro play, you need a couple more tricks than that. Part of the reason I feel this way is attack is so easy on fracture because the attackers could hit from any direction. I don’t think Harbor is particularly great for clearing close corners. Basically the only thing I can think of on defense is committing a lot of time towards developing retake protocols, and just being comfortable with the fact that I will have to retake every round. I think maybe the reason people are so willing to say Harbor is the best on Fracture is because none of the other controllers feel that comfortable playing on Fracture since its so attack sided. Haven is another map I’ve been avoiding for now. I think cascading down middle and C long is so strong that Harbor has to be good on Haven, but honestly a lot of his walls don’t feel great on Haven. They can feel somewhat awkward to throw. In particular A haven is a big weakspot for Harbor. Not many viable Cove lineups to block Opers. Oddly, the one maybe Harbor feels most comfortable for me in the map literally no one brings up as a potential Harbor map which is Ascent. IMO none of the other controllers have really excelled on Ascent, it almost didn’t even matter what controller you played on Ascent, they were all a similar degree of meh. However the way his walls and cove works has lend me to a lot of different strats, in particular its actually worth finding cove lineups for mid on both defense and attack. Taking mid control is important on Ascent and typically you’ll see the Opers playing mid, and Opers take forever to break a Cove since they don’t have a rifle. Beyond that, omens have already pioneered the midsite smoke on A, and cove is basically just an upgraded version of that strat. Lots of very obvious cove lineups for retakes that don’t need precision and can be thrown on the fly. If you take mid control with harbor you can easily midround and call audibles with Harbor since all of his util can be used pretty easily on both sites from mid. I think Pearl is just good with double controller in general, you almost can’t go wrong, any double controller combination would work. Harbor paired with a Brim would be pretty good though, because you would have the ability to aggressive smoke and take site as well as being able to abused the insanely easy postplant mollies. In general I think Solo Harbor would likely be possible to make work on every map, except for Bind. Bind is just not a good Harbor map. There just isn’t a lot of options with the way he throws his util on attack, Harbor basically can’t go mid on attack. Since each site is guaranteed to have one or more riflers any cove lineups of ideas will likely get broken immediately, especially since there is so much safe space backsite to shoot coves. Also, if Harbor ever tries to cascade his team in, the enemies can stall pretty easily with mollies. There are only 4 small chokepoints on bind, double controller, viper/brim has a very high winrate on bind for a reason, their defensive stall power is too strong on Bind. In Ranked a Harbor main could probably figure something out for Bind in order to not be a liability, but I’m almost certain that Bind would be Harbor’s lowest winrate.

I actually agree. Idk what PRX were thinking taking both Reyna and Phoenix. I definitely think their favorite duelists like Raze or Yoru would synergize better with Harbor. It also seems like Mindfreak came a little underprepared with Harbor. He had maybe 2 interesting util ideas but beyond that it Mindfreak left a lot of Harbors potential on the table. The Harbor pick didn’t seem to be a problem, but it wasn’t exactly a solution either. Honestly though, I don’t blame PRX. It really seemed like they were using this LAN as a way to get some feelings on how Harbor plays, so they can start incorporating him into their fast paced playstyle. Also to be fair to PRX, they didn’t really have the ability to scrim against any teams since Harbor released because all the teams got shaken up by the trading window, and many teams used this break as an excuse to give their players and coaches a vacation. PRX is basically the only good team that stuck together. Everyone else had roster changes.
PRX is so bloodthirsty and aggressive it’s hard not to be in awe of their play style. The most gigachad VCT team for sure.

I never really seen Habor as the viable controller pick until now, never really think about aggressive controller play style at all.
